Sol thewall Bamba Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 It is a pretty shit stadium to be honest, the KP. Ours fans do really well to create the atmosphere we do. Yeah it is pretty crap but is that not a reminder of how shit we were quite recently? Remember your roots and all that...
st albans fox Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 birse llost out on £5m and pretty much finished the business. Birse are now part of Balfour Beaty and as the only Lcfc supporter working for them I get reminded about the 5 million squids daily why was it 5 mill? surely they lost more than that ? if we didn't pay for a 40 mill stadium which they built
promised land Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 A good option, if moving was really to be considered, would be to move near Fosse Park way - plenty of car parking spaces nearby and traffic would flow easier in different directions. Yes because everybody drives into games in a car. Out of town grounds are shite, end of. Stay put I say, if we moved again you won't be around all the STH you are near now and have been for years.
Spudulike Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 I'd hate to relocate from our stadium on Freeman's Wharf now. It's in our spiritual area and has, in it's short lifetime, got some incredible history. The sort of history that gives it an atmosphere even when it's empty, just like Filbo used to. Give it a facelift and an expansion as long as it doesn't effect my brick
st albans fox Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 £17m I think it was, and that was the outstanding amount left to pay off what was owed to Teachers. Teachers were effectively the bank that gave us the money for the ground. Look at Birse as the bloke you had in to do the extension. Teachers had a hold over the stadium, like the bank has a hold over your house when you've got a mortgage... Birse didn't. when you get your mortgage from the bank, the money goes through your solicitor, not your own bank account. teachers ended up owning the ground as they had a charge against it re their loan to build it. surely the money they gave us would have gone directly to birse ?

If they move they better take my 3 bricks with them !!
ajthefox Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 People on about a new stadium, how big would it be anyway? If it's 42k (which we probably wouldn't fill to capacity every week anyway) then what happens if we fill that out? If it's bigger than that, surely we're going to end up with loads of empty seats again, which is not good for the atmosphere. Honestly, the idea of a new stadium is ludicrous.
J.Lisemore Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Yeah it is pretty crap but is that not a reminder of how shit we were quite recently? Remember your roots and all that... It is indeed. You can't have everything but it would have been nice to have had a more unique ground, people don't like it because there is no real feeling that its 'ours' Who knows? maybe it'll just take time to appreciate it for what it is
lifted*fox Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 I don't think our ground is particularly shit anyway tbh and I'm actually quite fond of the location. At least it's close to the city centre unlike a lot of grounds that are out of the way on some shit industrial estate.
David Hankey Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 If a complete new stadium is decided upon who was the idiot who didn't have the gumption or any forward thinking planning when the Filbert Way was built? You have to look forward. If this were to be the option we could be building a new stadium every 15/20 years, absolutely crazy.

We would fill 42k pretty much every week, the stadium currently isn't big enough. Yes to expansion no to relocation though...
philce Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 I though the east stand was designed with an expansion in mind? Maybe that's why they brought the land behind?
Vestan Pance Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 All this new stadium talk is just the club starting to apply pressure on the City Council and threatening to move if they don't look favourably on any extension plans.

I remember during the planning process execs from the club travelling all over the world on a gravy train, looking at stadia. We ended up with a cheapo carbon copy of St Marys.

And on what grounds would the City Council oppose any plans for an extension? They can't just say No, there has to be viable reasons.

They tried to build a 45k stadium on Bede Island but the local protesters won the day. And on what grounds would the City Council oppose any plans for an extension? They can't just say No, there has to be viable reasons. Travel and parking plans, we were supposed to have introduced a park and ride scheme as part of the current stadium which the club never delivered on. Adding another 10k will make it much more of a problem especially now Soulsby has introduced all the local parking restrictions since that time. There's going to need to be a viable achievable travel plan as part of any expansion. My suggestion is to give the Councils some cash to get the New Forest / Ivanhoe line up and running with a station at the back of the Kop.
Spudulike Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 We'll all be arriving on our push bikes, won't we ?? Need some LCFC lycra.

I've been thinking this for years, it would make it so much easier to get people in and out of the city.

There was a plan for Fosse Park too which is the 1 I remember the fans protesting about, had that keep City in the City campaign. Think most of the fans were all for the Bede Island application

Mark7 Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 We'll all be arriving on our push bikes, won't we ?? Need some LCFC lycra. Just say NO. Since we have a Roman in charge for the foreseeable future, what we really need is a Triumphal arch straddling Filbert Way. Complete with friezes showing scenes from great Leicester City victories
Drift Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 I think it'd make more sense that the Filbert Street site is a new car park, acting as a replacement for the spaces lost during KP expansion and also to generally make more parking available.
holyfox Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Would love the idea of a new stadium. With the Financial clout the owners have we could have a real statement stadium. Unless they could seriously enhance the current one visually aswell as increase the seating, I'd say build a new one. I am seriously enjoying the new Era theses owners have brought to the club
