Unabomber Posted 22 August 2016 Posted 22 August 2016 I'm hearing Mel burst cheese's inflatable dinosaur.
Captain... Posted 22 August 2016 Posted 22 August 2016 Unfortunately the slating Mel has got on here will not help to dissuade those with the opinion that UFS are a cliquey group of wannabe ultras. Someone had a negative opinion on the display. Take it on board and think about how to avoid it in future. The Swansea trophies were just as big, but were spread out rather than one long banner, the others were not as high if I remember correctly. Maybe for the next one have the foils then something special over the UFS lot, maybe a moving one or something. He has an opinion and he wasn't the only one by the sounds of it. Take it on board and maybe ask Mel and other dissenters what kind of display they would like to see and get behind.

No idea why my phone has bolded the whole lot but I guess the answer is a non existent one If he's been going down regularly since he was 3 then he would know that most the 14 years since we moved from filbert st have been shite atmosphere wise. And that we used to have flags etc before tifos came along. And I don't agree with everything that ufs do but he comes across as a complete bellend. I can't wait to go back to no displays and silence at the KP. His reaction along with others is gonna be priceless if we ever manage to get the club to allow a full pulley display from front to roof

The club have been great with UFS but it only takes one guy complaining to the club and the Mercury or national press get involved and they could stop cooperating. Also why is he a bellend? He has his way of enjoying the football it is no less valid than anyone else's. He wasn't over the top in his criticism, in his first post he even said he appreciated the work UFS did.

Trying to justify missing a couple of minutes despite having been going to matches since he's 3 years old? And making a big fuss about it. What is he actually missing that's any different from any other game? It's not like the tifo blocks out the match or any part of the match? It's not there permanently from start to finish. It is really only a couple of minutes. Why have a go at the group that has done so much to influence and improve out atmosphere since we've been back in the Premier League?

But why would people want to kick up a whole shit storm over a group of people spending time money and effort. I mean ffs these guys are spending hundreds of pounds for something that gets binned after a few mins. I love the fact our fan Base covers so many demographics but really. This shit sums up a lot of what is wrong with our club. We have just won the ****ing league have the best modern day home experience in the whole of England. And we end up with a thread that has now descended into another infight. Because people are upset at missing players shake hands with the opposition and the ref. And that's another issue with modern football altogether.

I think it's fairly obvious after almost 3 years that whatever UFS does and whatever they say, they will never change some people's perceptions of the group. Even when they get backed by those outside the group they get slated for being a clique. They'll never win with some and that's fine.

It doesn't matter mate, all that matters is the new people that turn up week after week get involved and enjoy themselves which judging by Saturday is entirely the case.

It doesn't matter if they are UFS or not, I have seen a few negative comments about UFS recently and the reaction to Mel's comments will add fuel to those that don't like the group. Even if they are not made by UFS members.

But he really needs to take a chill pill if something that has gained world wide attention for being a positive to our matchday experience upsets him. As far as I am aware the players will also walk out the same tunnel at 3pm next Saturday and shake hands with the ref and the opposition

He could well be a bellend, but if some of these displays are pissing off fans then it should be addressed and not just dismissed. The diplomatic response would have been to apologise and talk to him not belittle his opinion as ridiculous, even if you think it is.

Myself included can come across as bellends to onlookers. Doesn't actually mean we are. It's all about perception. I'm sure I'd have a lovely chat with him. But don't think I'll be adding him as a football friend on fb or joining whatever fb group he posted on as I doubt we would ever see eye to eye or he could see why I thought the displays are a good thing. Seems a bit set in his ways for me

Probably true, but this is something that could get back to the club, especially if the social media arguments escalate and make them reluctant to support more displays. Which none of us want.

Bluetintedspecs Posted 22 August 2016 Posted 22 August 2016 I've had my differences with certain members of UFS , I hold my hand up , it was primarily a hangover from the Arsenal away protest debacle (my opinion) and strong feelings from then festering within me! Some unfortunate things were said and both parties resorted to unfortunate behaviour in the last exchanges which were regrettable. I think Saturdays Tifo was spectacular and you should be proud of how it looked and well done for the hard work of those involved. What I would say is you will not please everybody all the time, jokes and banter aside ,attacking and abusing, though we've all lost the plot at times is not the answer! Sometimes a conciliatory approach is more effective and it will prevent people getting a wrong impression! Keep up the GOOD work. COYB

Realistically, what would the club do just cos someone missed out on a couple of minutes of player walkouts (nothing unique basically. You'd hope the club would see that the positives of UFS and their displays far outweigh the negatives and the thoughts of a handful (?) of people.

Which none of us want. As I say I accept that. But I'll make a point and hopefully it's reasonably balanced and then answer me an honest question and it's generally not meant to be a I'm a bigger supporter than you sort of argument. Mel has been going to the city since the age of 3. Myself I've only been going since the age of 10. Mel likes to arrive at 2.15 on a Saturday 3pm ko. I prefer a beer with mates and if I make my seat by ko I'm doing well. Now as you have stated no one's matchday routine and experience is worth anymore or any less. Than the next man's. Now I have no really affiliation to ufs other than paying a few hours dues for the help in getting my flag behind my seat. Infact a few of the old Fosse boys members I'd gladly like a not so reasoned debate with. However and I'm not pinning this on our new fb friend Mel. But I know from one of my mates that helped out with the execution of the display (she's more community spirited than me) that so called fans of our club in what I would considered a more broad and reasonable part of our ground. (The kop is only that in name now.) Ran down to the front to confront those volunteers some not even members of ufs (not that really matters) but still fellow fans and offer them a fight outside the ground. I mean ffs what's the need. Maybe I see it from a different view. But the players walk out that tunnel 20 odd times a season ( yeah yeah I know it's only 19 whilst we hang around in the top flight) But does it really matter if for the odd occasion that ufs try to do something he missed the players walkout. Are the same people gonna complain when the club no doubt try to do something for 1 of the cl group games? One of the proudest things our club did was start the poppy's for remembrance fixtures and this year's poppy tifo display in the east stand was one of the best displays seen in this country in my eyes. I reckon from the fb profile he may have served out country so I doubt he complained at the effort made then. So whilst some may frown at me turning up at 2.58 and my mate going for a beer at 3.40 and my 2 more recent crowd leaving with 5 mins to go. Everyone is different as you say. But I'd rather have ufs and some songs and displays over someone who feels what's important is something that involves watching a warm up and a tunnel walk and handshake. Answer honestly and it doesn't make you a bad person but wouldn't you? Rant over.

Ask the guy that turned up early on saturday as a 'newbie', and was welcomed and integrated, and now feels like a totally valued member. Ultras? FFS, I'm 64, hardly 'ultra' material, and I'm proud to be a member of the best City supporters group since the Hinckley Mob back in the 60's. Don't slag the group off mate, come and get involved, and see what a fine bunch of - mainly - young, passionate supporters they are. If it wasnt for UFS, I seriously wouldnt bother. Best part of 300 miles round trip for me to see a game,
