Leicester City will continue talks with Sporting Lisbon over a potential club-record deal for Islam Slimani, as Danny Simpson closes in on a new contract.

Slimani remains on the Premier League champions’s radar but the price demanded by Sporting is proving a stumbling block, with the fee over £35 million.

Sporting are taking the piss now frankly. How many other clubs are smashing their back door in with that sort of a wad?

should slap £55 million down for them both and tell em to take it or leave it.

Yeah, halcyon days, though I remember crying all the way home from Wembley in '69.

I wasn't calling the poster untruthful, I'm sure he's just got the dates wrong - the memory can be unreliable at our time of life.

Yes he definitely has the dates wrong as Banks left for Stoke in 1967.

the funny thing is didint he have a release clause of 25 mil that expired earlier this summer? The similarities with Arsenal continue to gain momentum.

If he's overseas training with his national side, when will he have time to fly to Leicester and complete the signing?

As much as I want Slimani and Silva i prefer the striker and want this over the line. This is going to be an excruciating week.

Judging by the tears he had coming off the pitch the other day, and the strong rumours, I would say this is all but agreed, and his agent is ironing out the final details, with him just needing to sign before Wednesday which may mean a Joe Hart situation of being allowed to fly over to finalise the deal etc.

Confident of this one being done but the midfield situation worries me a little. If we don't sign Silva OR N'Zonzi or anyone else for that position, then could leave everyone a little frustrated!

Yeah, I feel a lot more confident about the Slimani deal for all the reasons cited above.

After being convinced we'd land Silva as well, I get the sense SCP will have our pants down over the price - just as we would if a team had come in for Kante, Mahrez and Vardy two days before deadline day, which is essentially the equivalent of what we're doing to SCP. That said, I understand they're absolutely riddled with debt and their bankers probably wouldn't be too pleased if they were to knock back £50m+, which might put us in a better position.

I am guessing our owners were at Sporting yesterday, so they could finalize the deal & get the paperwork done so Slimani could leave for International duty instead of having to fly to the UK.

Agreed. Would be very hard to turn down a sum such as £50m+ when in so much debt. I guess they have to weigh up which is worse, the wrath of the fans or the wrath of the banks!

Their president sounds like a stubborn old goat though! As long as whatever is going on with Silva, isn't jeopardising the Slimani deal!

I still find it very odd that Silva would be so open and detailed about our move for him if he wasn't pretty sure of it happening, so I'm still hopeful on both.

Hey , another Sporting fan here .

Just to clarify Adrien didn't give any interview and didn't state anything . It was his agent that has done that interview about "it's time to move etc"

His agent is the most interested in this negociation so that's why he wants the deal .

Agents and representatives of the athletes are factors of destabilization and pressure to the players

But if you want to buy players go buy benfica and porto's players .

Silva said: "Yes, I confirm this proposal. Leicester is very interesting and corresponds to my career goals.

"After the past 15 years at Sporting, this opportunity is something exceptional for me and can allow me to express and impose myself in another championship, and also to evolve in the Premier League, which is a stunning league.

"I love Sporting as a family and I dedicated myself to the club since I was 12 years old.

"With Sporting I lived many moments of happiness. I can say that I grew up with the club. At 27 years old, and after so many years of loyalty, I think that no one will criticise me for wanting to embrace this challenge."

His agent really said all this??  I find that difficult to believe, even of the most dodgy of agents! That is a stretch but thanks for the info. I'm sure you don't want to lose the player.

Yes it wasn't Adrien who said that . Just stating facts.

Look i'm not here trying to lie or anything like that just to keep the players , I know how's the press here in Portugal.

Fair enough if you have this info. I guess we will find out more in the coming days. It seems he must have a very strange relationship with his agent though, if he pretends to be SIlva and declares he is leaving the club, even though Silva did not say or want these things said...

Can I ask how you know he did not say these things? A new news story or someone close to the club saying so on twitter? A source.

No one heard Adrian say anything, there are only the statements that came out in the newspaper.

"The club rejected the idea of being able to sell Adrien Silva to Leicester".

Just for curiosity the newspapper "O Jogo" here in Portugal is the the northern newspaper that represents porto and they lost against Sporting 2-1 the day before these declarations came out and they were angry.

Again , being sincerely no way Adrien goes for Leicester the only one i think is going is Slimani.

A couple of days ago before all this blew up most of us were happy to have "discovered" Amartey as our Kante replacement. I don't think we were really expecting any further strengthening in attack either. So if both these fall through, although I'd be disappointed, I think we'd be OK.

From what I can make out it sounds as if N'Zonzi might be a better fit for our midfield requirements anyway.

About Slimani :

"Even Slimani skipped training 3 weeks ago because we were constantly rejecting offers." False.

Slimani skipped one training because he had to deal with personal matters more precisely at the time of Ramadan and the Coach agreed.

Oh, you'd be surprised about the fact that football agents can be good friends with journalists.

Prob not sylo but the fact it was published by an unfriendly outlet makes it easier to dismiss if the player stays with the club.

But they must have laws about printing total bollox about someone. Especially as it is claiming it to be a quote.

Sky reporting we've had a bid of £25 million rejected. Wish we had just paid the £23 million release clause earlier this summer.
