I can only assume that Slimani was not originally one of our top targets otherwise why would you want until his release clause had expired to have a bigger offer rejected?

To be fair with the Silva rumour it's clear LCFC have money to spend so they are taking us to the cleaners.

It's a bit like when we lost Kante - we wanted to maximise the money we made off him.

Really? They got him at a snip. I know the release clause was the release clause and they met it, nothing we could do about it, but it was still a snip.

Last night I read something about people saying some fans had double standards, now we're the ones bid on players with release clauses.

Not for me.

I said it during the Vardy saga and Kante transfer, I don't blame the clubs, if the release clauses are there, then they're there to be bid on, what I will blame is the players, it's them and their agents who demand them written into contracts so they can ultimately engineer transfer/engineer better wages (You can't blame then for that but when they're already out outrageous wages, it's abit sickening to see them on even more outrageous wages.).

Personally I think release clause's should be banned.

I think release clauses help protect players. Look at Slimani: He is making 500K/year! A lot more than me, but very low for one of Europe's leading strikers. The club's sign these guys at low wages for long term deals, and then hold them for ransom. Release clauses give the players negotiating power. They are making money for the club, they should get theit fair share.

For various reasons, it is better in the Premier League, where if you perform at a certain level, you will often get a new contract, even if you have years left on the current one.

But in Portugal? Three clubs have the pick of the country from pre-school. They indoctrinate them, sign them all to low-paying deals, and then hold them hostage, even sending them to the reserves if they get uppity. Have you ever seen the wage sheet for a top Portuguese club? You are better off playing in the Championship. These guys deserve release clauses; it's like the Underground Railroad.

We'll definatly get Slimani, thev'e already brought in two replacements.

We should then offer not to buy him unless we get Silva too, for cheap-ish.

If they keep them, then they'll all end up unhappy, including the supposed "replacements" who might not get as much game time.

That's the problem why Sporting wanted 34m pounds now

They didn't appreciate Leicester going  for their Captain few days before the mercato ends and they have no replacement for him especially when he declared he wants to leave

Slimani deal was all done before LCFC went and talked to Silva and his agent

Take good care of Slimani guys. Its pretty clear here in Portugal that he will join you.

Let me give you a description of the player you are getting.

He will be the most hard working man on the pitch every single game, he runs the whole time he is on the pitch, and doesn't stop for one second.

If he thinks he might get to a ball he will run even if there is only 1% chance of getting to it before it crosses the line.

He is the 1st defender of your team, he will press the Center backs and the goal keeper like no other striker in the world.

If you cross a ball to his head he will score 100% of the times.

He is very physical and can hold the ball really well

What im gonna say now might feel like an exaggeration to you lot, but I wouldn't trade Slimani for Lewadoski or Suarez. Slimani was the perfect fit for our team, and has a workrate that no other player in the world has.

He is a fan favourite, we've had other strikers like Jardel that won the European Golden boot when he played for us and won us a league all by himself, but our affection to Slim is even greater. Slimani is and will forever be in Sporting's history, as he gave 100% of him in every single match, he also stays 1 or 2 hours extra in training just to practice. that shows his dedication.

He came out of nowhere, when he arrived in Sporting 3 years ago he was 25 years old and was playing in the algerian second division, and now he is one of the best strikers in the world.

Hey guys! Sporting and leicester fan here from portugal.

You guys don't need to worry. You'll have Slimani. We bought two players to replace him( bas dost and castaignos) and the owner of sporting made a promise to him that was: if they had a 30m offer for him they would let him leave.

But now, our owner is trying to strech it out and get 35/40m because Sporting has to pay 20% of the transfer to a fund, so they want to get 30m exactly for the transfer.

But don't worry, he's already yours, after sporting-porto, slimani cried and it was his goodbye.

So, good luck for you guys this season, hope you can be at the top 5 at least! And hope that you win against porto!!

Cheers and sorry for my bad english:rolleyes:

Incredible that Sporting fans are actually coming on here to wish us good luck with us unsettling and trying to poach 2 of their best players. :D

Am skeptical still tbh. Sporting just gained an awful lot of money from the Joao Mario deal so doubt they really need the cash. Really hope we can get at least one in though, and Silva would be the preferred for me - Okazaki seems to have upped his game this season already.

Sorry for asking, but why do you need a stricker? Don't you have vardy, musa, okazaki, ulloa? So many good players, why spend 30m on a stricker? Don't you should search for a kanté replacement?

Amartey and Mendy are our Kante replacements.

Slimani is a Ulloa upgrade. Though I suspect Ulloa would likely stay until January as it is too late for a move, but maybe if we are still in the League Cup, we'd keep him for that.

Plus Musa might be played on the wing. Plus we just need more depth for more games.

Are you offering us Carvalho as well now? Can we do buy two get one free?

We could end up with a last day scramble for Berahino IMO we should slap down our highest double bid "take it leave it", it appears both players are keen to come so after the fee is agreed it should be plain sailing apart from the distance problem Its all very frustrating and i expect both players due to join national squads,it will not be easy to conclude a double dealon the final day

well we signed mendy, we also have amartey so theres alot of uncertainty about whats gonna happen with a cm. i assume thats why we are trying to get adrien silva. but as far as a striker goes, we dont have a big powerful striker who is really good enough. ulloa is the only strong striker we have, and he isnt really ucl or upper premier league quality.

Slimani has the authorization to leave for England whenever a deal is agreed between LCFC and SPC
