ScouseFox Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 can see pros and cons. id get rid just cos it's bloody boring in the most part, especially as a neutral. id deffo complain if we'd battered a team for 90 mins, got done with a sucker punch and then lost on pens though.
StanSP Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 scrap it players, for the most part, look dead and sometimes just waste time anyway. Rather it goes straight to penalties as opposed to play out a boring 30 minutes just for it to go to penalties anyway.
Izzy Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 Keep it for me. I know it can sometimes be boring and predictable but it's a good test of mental and physical toughness to make sure you don't concede. Quite often it's a tired mistake that leads to a goal in extra time.
Tuna Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 Oh yes please, the extra time in this tournament have been an unimaginible bore.
Dodgy Bob Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 What about allowing additional subs in extra time, maybe even opening up the whole bench. Should freshen the game up and theoretically the better overall squad would win
Tuna Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 Never want to see another penalty shootout again after this one ! ARGH!
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 No, because when you don't care about either side you get a small portion of extra time where you don't want either team to score so you get penalties - you feel the time investment deserves that extra drama. You wouldn't get the same feeling for a 90 mins straight to pens game.
lnkstern Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 Copa America tournaments do it that way (no ET, straight to penalties), and I like it. The extra time Germany played may take its toll later in this tournament.
Guest Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 The extra time Germany played may take its toll later in this tournament. Too many teams are happy to let a match go down to penalties, to the point it almost seems like their strategy. Personally, if you're not interested in winning it over 90 minutes of football, then you deserve to be knackered for the next match.
Yastafox Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 I think what would be good would be extra time plus penalties but each team only gets 5 pens max. If it's a draw after 5 penalties team with most shots on target after extra time wins! Should encourage some more attacking play!
FireFox Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 Should go straight to the old NASL/MLS hockey style shootouts.
Jattdogg Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Should go straight to the old NASL/MLS hockey style shootouts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LXiRCCB68E Please no. I find more often then not when it hits extra time its more likely to be cautious teams playing for pks. They should ask each team if they prefer to go straight to pk's. If they agree do it. If extra time is played it should be golden goal as well.
Guest Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Should go straight to the old NASL/MLS hockey style shootouts. hey now, talk like that will earn you a ban. btw, is somebody in the crowd really crap at playing the trumpet or did they have vuvuzelas all the way back then?
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Also would like Golden goal back. Encourages attacking
Nalis Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Wouldnt want to scrap it but all up for modifying it. It would detract from the simplicity of football but something like getting an extra penalty kick for every shot on target during extra time, or the difference in shots on target. Eg if Germany had 3 shots on target in ET and Italy had 2, then Germany would get 1 extra penalty kick at the end of the shootout. Might be an incentive for attacking play during ET.

Yeah I was thinking that, unless you had a max 30 yards from the goal? That said, players on the wing might go for goal knowing it will go straight to the keeper rather than creating a better opportunity for someone else. Anyway, something will need to be done to extra time to make it an incentive for teams to attack, just dont know what yet. Golden goals and silver goals arent the answer. All for keeping a modified version of extra time as scrapping it makes it easier for teams to play for penalties.
katieakita Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Have the penalty kicks after full time then play the extra time. The team losing the penalty shoot out would have to win in the 30 mins encourages attacking play and if still a draw the shoot out winners go through
DB11 Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 I'll say yes but I don't think it's all that bad. But when I am officiating knock out fixtures extra time is the last thing I want.. it's not like you get paid overtime!! Straight to penalties please
