I've watched and know the standard of football he was playing in at 19. Have you even watched his football from when he was in France? did you see him when he started playing for us or are you too young? Gray is better now than when Mahrez came to us - Knocky was better than Mahrez when he first came.
Manwell Pablo Posted 12 August 2016 Posted 12 August 2016 Wasn't he still like French fourth tier at 19? So that was before he went to Le Harve and wasn't even immediately considered for the for the first team. Where as Grey is a squad player for the EPL Champions. Don't take a genius does it.

A large sum of which would go on buying someone a bit like ......Schluppp. If we were able to find them ! You're also gambling that Gray and Kaputska will develop the way we all hope they will. Bird in the hand and all that.
VLC86 Posted 12 August 2016 Posted 12 August 2016 We couldn't get an impact sub for less than £11m yet we buy Kante, Mahrez, Vardy, Drinkwater and Kasper for less combined.
HighPeakFox Posted 12 August 2016 Posted 12 August 2016 Some people moan about most players most of the time - we have all probably sat next to or near someone who only ever finds fault with just about every player, apart from occasionally and irrationally lauding one individual, as if to balance all the invective out.

I rate Gray highly but compare a 25 year old Mahrez to a 25 year old Gray and is be surprised if Gray reaches such a high level as Mahrez has

Yep Just wait until they realise after a few months they have basically spent that on a glorified sprinter who can't tackle, pass or shoot. We can talk about market inflation all we want but if we manage to get Gray, Mahrez and Kaputska for the price we sell Jeff Schulpp we are laughing, it's no wonder we have done so well when our business goes like this.

You're comparing signings from years ago. The market is hugely inflated across the globe. We just paid £7.5M for Kaputska, broke our transfer record twice and bid £25M for Troy Deeney. The cheapest signing we made was a free agent - Hernandez. So the only way we'd realistically get an impact sub for less than £11M is if we signed someone on a free. The chances are most free agents will have signed for a club by now. We're aiming for higher quality signings now, so no we can't sign an impact sub for £11M.
foxy boxing Posted 12 August 2016 Posted 12 August 2016 hope he doesn't go without him who is going to look surprised when we win the league again?

It's astonishing after what we have done over the last few years people still assume you have to spend money to buy quality. It really is.

We're not completely changing our transfer strategy but I'd be very surprised if we signed a non league player again. All our signings this summer have been from top league teams in their respective countries.

We're still signing players with good team spirit and that put a shift in. It just so happens that they have more quality already than our prior signings. Like the Gray at 19 vs Mahrez at 19 example.
dbtcity Posted 12 August 2016 Posted 12 August 2016 Hakin Ziyech being linked with a €10m move to Everton shows value for money is out there, I rate Jeff and would sooner we kept him but if wba came back with a £15m bid Id feel comfortable we could replace him for that

Maybe he has a release clause a la Kante

Wise old Billy big bollocks I remember Zaolt Laczko being better than all the players you mention when he first came! Didn't turn out to be a Marhez though did he Billy? It don't mean shit.
Benji Posted 12 August 2016 Posted 12 August 2016 I'll be astounded if we let him leave. To bring on his pace with 20 minutes left in a game where plan A isn't working and you need a goal is invaluable.
