I wonder how much of this activity - if this and Silmani are true - is based upon the Champions League draw? If we had been in a Pool of Death of some sort, the club may have though spending a lot of money might not have been a good gamble: Spending £60 million and getting third would have been gut-wrenching. But Group G is very winnable, which might give us a winnable first knock-out round, and it is worth £60 to get into the quarterfinals of Champions League.

I think this is a good shout. Obviously the likes of slimani have been scouted for some time but I certainly think the draw has made them rethink what is achievable this season

Could split the 60 quid between the squad... It's a fiver each.. So not to be sniffed at!

If we actually pull this one out of the bag aswell as slimani then Bloody hell... That would be a statement of intent... That would be massive!

we will probably end up with neither which I wouldn't be devastated because we looked quite good against Swansea....

Other more reliable sources have led to my "friend" at sky bet making Juve very strong favourites

He may have been happy to consider returning to the prem before Juve revealed their interest.

as with gabigol, we are punching above our weight competing with Juve. as soon as I read of their interest, my hopes for this one cooled completely.

I think there could be a lot of truth to this. Even if we don't make it through in 1st or 2nd, you make it to the Europa League with a 3rd place finish and surely with both Bruges and Copenhagen in our group it would be hard to see us not making it through to at least that competition (I hope I don't put a curse on us here!)

I think another Striker was always on the cards this summer. We were linked with Deeney and Perez and although neither happened there were links with Luan, Barbosa and Slimani. I think Barbosa (Gabigol) was our first choice but he's gone to Inter and the interest from West Brom has forced our hand on Slimani. It's not a bad thing because I think Slimani can probably do damage right away instead of being someone with raw potential.

Once Kante left I felt that a replacement was always on the cards. Mendy was signed to add to the squad not as a replacement, and having seen some of his matches I think he's actually there as cover for Drinkwater whose role in the side is just as important as Kante's was.

The recent performance from Amartey was encouraging but realistically he's still 21 and has plenty of time to develop. Having someone like N'Zonzi for the big games and Europe with Amartey in for the League Cup / FA Cup / "easier" league games (although I don't think such things exist these days!) would make a lot of sense.

Well if he's going to Juve then that opens up a move for Lemina.

Looks like Adrien Silva might make this suggestion obsolete...

Silva is an attacking midfielder, more of a #10. Italian press are saying N'Zonzi is not Juve's first choice, and they are not willing to meet the release clause, only offering €20 million. This could still be live, although the new sponsorship deals with Thailand's Tourism Board and Singa Beer better have been pretty good if we are splashing out that much cash.
