Steven N'zonzi

I agree with the above but that's not my point or the answer to the question.....

I don't dispute we need him but can't see the club splashing 60 million euro on them both.

N'zonzi was easily the best player with Stoke and against top sides would be a huge asset. That is taking nothing away from Amartey who was probably our best player in the first half yesterday and looks a bargain.

If we only half enough money for a central midfielder or another striker which is the priority? Sounds like Slimani might be coming in although seem to her heard these rumours for the last couple of years. Not sure if there are any financial restrictions on pushing up the wage bill or transfer spending from the FA if we splash out on both.

Just don't see how he suits our style at all, we like to play with 2 dynamic midfielders who put in a shift, N'zonzi doesn't do that at all (atleast he didn't at Stoke).

His replacement ?

I'd rather we signed Medel for £10m than N'Zonzi at £25m.

Unsure if you are joking or not. But if not then just want to tell you that Nzonzi covers a ridiculous amount of ground and was only beaten by 1 player in the whole league the last season he was in prem. He would be absolutely perfect for us.

Was well up for this before around half three yesterday but Amartey was a beast yesterday and has lightened the feeling, definitely agree with those saying he's Viera type player with his pace, intelligence and physical dominance.

As others have said, he was he best midfielder to visit the KP season before last.

Think he would suit us very well.

Covering a lot of ground doesn't make a player hard working (in my opinion anyway), the reason he's so high is because he jogs all game and rarely sprints, which is a huge part of our game.

Doesnt matter anyway as I expect you won't get to see any further  evidence at the KP

Put aside the near 60 million cost for Slimani and N'zonzi. What do we lack in the squad? Pace? No. Physicality and European experience? Yes. Would be two top signings, which with the exception of injuries and at rb/cb, would leave us needing to do no further business all season.

people saying no need because Amartey had a class game yesterday (which is true - chuffed for the lad) but don't forget we need depth and quality within that depth. if someone plays mid week in the champions league they might not be fresh enough for the weekend...we need a good player to step up and play the league

Cover at centre half and right back isn't great but you can't solve all your problems in one go.

If we get N'Zonzi and Slimani we'll be top heavy in MF and FW, we could do with selling a couple to recoup some money and for squad harmony.

I'd like to see Ulloa, Schlupp and James sold to make room.

I wouldn't sell schlupp...I'd loan him out to the baggies. I'd get rid of James and Ulloa though. Unless Slimani is going AFCON? Loan Ulloa out until Jan and then use him when Slimani isnt here?

I wonder how much of this activity - if this and Silmani are true - is based upon the Champions League draw? If we had been in a Pool of Death of some sort, the club may have though spending a lot of money might not have been a good gamble: Spending £60 million and getting third would have been gut-wrenching. But Group G is very winnable, which might give us a winnable first knock-out round, and it is worth £60 to get into the quarterfinals of Champions League.

Slimani is going to AFCON. We currently have a small squad (23 players with numbers as it stands) for a team competing in four competitions. Heck, Schlupp, Kasper, and Mendy are injured right now. Imagine if we weren't going into the international break? If we sign Slimani, we will have four players going to AFCON, three of them potential starters (sorry, Jeff). I don't think anyone currently with a squad number - except maybe James on loan - is going anywhere.

Spot on. Highlights the need for one CM and one ST still...

The CB and or RB need is non-existent if we sign a CM since Amartey can cover those positions. Hoping we can finalise the squad by Wednesday.

I think we will sign N'Zonzi & Slimani this window then bring in cover at Centre back & Right back in January.

Deal unlikely then, but then again Slimani played.   I reckon after all this talk of N'zonzi, we'll probably get Paredes on transfer deadline day.

Slimani played because they were playing Porto and didn't have time to get Dost in the squad.
