You keep touting him, Babs, but it seems we're reluctant to pay his release clause of thirty pieces of silver..

With 2000 years of inflation,I'm not sure what it would be now,but he would still be a gift from God

Quite simply we are about to face playing 3 games every week for a few months and we have 3 fit central midfielders. We are in a transition period without Kante and I believe we'll have to go 3 in the middle soon which basically means we'll have no alternatives than King, Drinkwater and Amartey. It's a scandalous situation to be in, with less than a week to go in the window. We are notoriously poor at finalising deals quickly and we have shown in recent windows that come the closing days we are very poor. N'Zonzi has been a target for ages, it's clear we want him but we've tried to get him for a reasonable price, well tough Seville don't want to sell him. We are lucky there's a release clause to take it out their hands so pay it or risk our season as I'm unconvinced we have any ready alternatives to go after and get!

Agree with this. I'm an advocate of bargain signings and I can sympathise with what AKCJ was saying but we've got to accept that we got ourselves into this situation and it's not always going to be a cheap way out of it. It's borderline desperation but we can justify paying £25mil for N'Zonzi.

The people who think that this is a lot of money are not looking at the bigger picture IMO.

We sold Kante for £32m and by all means correct me if I'm wrong but I'd imagine he would have wanted £120k a week if we had any chance of keeping him. That's £25m over a contract.

So total gained through Kante going = £57m

Now that's move on to Mendy. He cost £13m - We still have £44m  remaining.

Let's not forget his wages. 50k a week or there about? That's £34m remaining

Nzonzi will cost £25m - We now have £9m remaining

Wages, what do reckon? 75k a week? that's £15m over a contract meaning the signing of Mendy and Nzonzi would cost us £6m

£6m for a midfield that could handle it's self domestically and in Europe and some people are worrying???

We've not even really got started on all of the cash from all the other sources which are probably having to be looked at in landscape mode by now...

One think missed here are the agents fees and loyalty bonuses.

I'm hoping Kante didn't take a loyalty bonus and he asked for the transfer, therefore forgoing any bonus owed.

Any new signing would incur agent fees.

Also need to factor in the huge wage bill increase with Vardy, Mahrez, Schmeichel, Drinky etc getting their new contracts. A lot of income will have been swallowed up with that. Still think N'Zonzi is worth pushing for though.

So what's the verdict? Do we still need this guy?

i would say let's wait till Jan to see if we need a new CDM and let's give Amartey ago till then.

Ok, let's say we have a CL game on Tuesday - who is playing midfield ?

Amartey was absolutely class today. It felt like having Kante back again, which from a Leicester fan is high praise indeed. I think he is good enough to step up to the plate but N'Zonzi is a player who seems well suited to our style of play and adds another option in an extensive programme of fixtures. Fact of the matter is, if we have the money to sign what appears to be a long term target, proven at PL level with Stoke and with European & Continental experience at Sevilla, and the player and the management team want to move, why would anyone in their right mind say no. Get it done.

Amartey was class today. In fact, he showed even more aspects of a central midfielder imo than Kante. More of a Viera than a makelele. But...It was against a poor swansea side and also it would be unfair in my opinion to rely on what is essentially a kid playing in in a role he hasnt actually played in all of his career. He's young, there will be times his position/rashness/naiveity will cost us goals, but it's all about learning and remembering performances like today. This isn't a negative post about Amartey, i just want to see him reach his potential, which is clearly in abundance. £25 million for more squad depth, more physical strength, and experience for players like Amartey to learn from physically, and even the squad with regards to knowledge of the spanish footballing culture, make the buy a sensible one imo.

He was great today, no doubt. He took his chance and mixed th cement for his spot but he's a long way from a week in week out solid starter yet.

Now that it looks like Slimani will sign for us, to you think it's likely and wise for us to buy this fella as well?

I don t think it'll happen if the Slimani reports are correct - especially after Amartey demonstrating he can do a job allbeit against a Swans side in relative turmoil.

I understand it would be massive amount of money the club would be spending but I am not 100 per sold on Amartey. He was brilliant against Swansea and I think he'll play a lot but can he replicate that form against the big boys and in Europe? if we don't bolster the midfield we are putting a huge amount of trust in Amartey/Mendy

Yes. Need the additional squad depth and experience, plus we can't rely on Amartey replicating that form consistently just yet.
