Collymore Posted 29 August 2016 Posted 29 August 2016 Imagine somebody had came down to Earth that could read very well but had never read a book. What 1/5/10 books would you recommend and why? This isn't "what's your favourite book" although who's to say your favourite book might not be in there anyway...

VLC86 Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 I read Roger Red Hat today, it's about a lad called Roger who wears a red hat. Pretty boring really, 3/10.

Ron Combo Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 For starters, Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks which resonates so much with the unimaginable horror of WWI (and especially relevant now with the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme). Selfish but for us of a certain age A Encyclopedia of Myself by Jonathan Meades. Every sentence a polished jewel. He is bonkers but quite brilliant. Apologies if I have gone all serious.

I think if an English speaking alien came to me, it would be along time before we started recommending books to each other. I don't even bother doing that with my mates.
