MC Prussian Posted 13 October 2016 Posted 13 October 2016 Somewhat off-topic, but not entirely: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/thailands-king-bhumibol-adulyadej-dead-9036364 Now, what does that mean for our owners and their ties with the Royal Thai family?
Fox 4 Life Posted 13 October 2016 Posted 13 October 2016 I can't see how it would have any affect on our football club whatsoever but maybe another surname change?!
lgfualol Posted 13 October 2016 Posted 13 October 2016 Will probs play the Thai national anthem instead of the CL one next week plus a tifo of his face.

The King was known to given certain companies preferential treatment. It's against the law to curse against the King. Speculation is that parts of Thailand despise him and what's he created - the country is currently in military junta. Either way, it's impossible to say. However, it does raise concerns. You'd think King Power have stuck away the money however.

Vardinio'sCat Posted 13 October 2016 Posted 13 October 2016 Vichai has survived political instability before, like the coup in 2014. I think he is clever and pragmatic, and bends with the wind when necessary. It would be interesting to get some input from any Thai posters on here, because our grasp of Thai politics is obviously limited.

I know you are joking but I do actually fear this knowing the club, the idea of giving a round of applause to someone who jailed people for criticising them is something no one who believes in free speech should tolerate.
MrSpaM Posted 13 October 2016 Posted 13 October 2016 The king was well respected by most Thai people, and was considered a sort of living god to many, this is a massive deal to them. My friend who's Thai literally cried when they heard the news. Nobody wants his successor in power, so it's going to cause a lot of waves over there. I'd fully expect there to be something done by the club at our next home game out of respect.
EnderbyFox Posted 13 October 2016 Posted 13 October 2016 Only one man fit to take over the job really...
norwichfox Posted 13 October 2016 Posted 13 October 2016 At least he got to see Leicester become champions before dying.....I know nothing of Thailand or their political situation, can only hope that this is not going to have a negative impact on Tops plans for the City.
Guest Bob Hazels shorts Posted 13 October 2016 Posted 13 October 2016 Mods + posters Those who have been to Thailand will know that the King was worshipped by all unlike anything we have witnessed. Anything said against the King even in jest is seen as extremely offensive and over there severely punished. Please respect the situation for the owners and OUR sakes
foxy boxing Posted 13 October 2016 Posted 13 October 2016 if Leicester players go to the funeral, the younger ones will need tabs on them at all times.we can't have a repeat of well you know?lol

Different country different values everyone knows the score. We have a fair amount to be ashamed of.

Yeah, it's just terrible when freedom of speech is curtailed in deference to a monarch. Oh, hold on a minute... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3823537/Who-s-laughing-David-Baddiel-s-Radio-4-Don-t-Make-Laugh-sparked-outrage-mocking-jokes-Queen-s-sex-life-90th-birthday-AXED-BBC.html

It was said, broadcast and complained about. And how long is Baddiel going to prison for?

Vardinio'sCat Posted 13 October 2016 Posted 13 October 2016 Of course it's not the same. As you say, we don't put people in jail for it, because we are more subtle than that. But it's worth remembering that the worlds longest serving monarch is dead, so the new longest serving monarch is our own. What an honour for us all!

I don't think it's going to surprise anyone that a man who jails people for years for not being worshipped is widely worshipped.
ealingfox Posted 13 October 2016 Posted 13 October 2016 The Srivs will have been moving their money out of Thailand for years now. Especially since 2014. Probably only have assets there now.

I was making a point about deference to a monarch really (ie we have limits too), but I must admit I thought the show had been cancelled, although I didn't state that in my post. Can you tell I'm not a monarchist?
