Charl91 Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 Simple as. True, some players are horribly out of form, but I'd put 90% of our problem down to lack of a midfield. When we play with Amartey, it's like playing with 10 men. When we play with King, it's like playing with 10 men. So it's no surprise that playing with both at the same time is like playing with 9 men. Neither of them can create chances, and they're both defensively suspect. If we don't get a decent partner for Drinkwater, then we will go down.
Vindaloo FOX Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 CR really needs to play 3 in midfield . get James or Kapustka in .
Barky Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 Of course it is. We're without our two main CM's in Drinkwater and Mendy. We're forced to play a 2nd string midfield and yet look, we can still compete in the premier league. Not so bad, really.

thegaffa Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 I think the issue is we are not defending or attacking as a team like last season. 3 of the back four are static 99% of the game when we are in possession and two of our attacking players put in very laboured efforts in pressing players 90% of the time when we don't have the ball. plus the back 4 all ball watch rather than read the game.

Both tucked away nicely. We got a point, that's competing. Playing well? No, but we are competing even though the heart of our side has been ripped out through injury and suspension. It's not so bad.
Sir Shep Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 I think Amartey isn't that bad, just my opinion! And no I'm not trolling!
FoxyPalace.com Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 Been saying this for months. The Midfield is thread bare quality wise. We need a general who can control the middle of the park. We are constantly over run, most of the time teams run straight through the middle without even a tackle. No wonder we struggle in games, Ranieri and the owners should of spent more money on proven quality, ever heard of the saying capitalise when you are in your strongest position. Well we now a shambles due to mis-management and very very poor recruitment. FFS we had millions in the bank to spend, we made millions on Kante and others, Piss poor!
lgfualol Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 Wouldn't even know we have one. There is a 40 yard gap either between defence and midfield, or attack and midfield. I am a Amarteyite, I think he'll eventually be a great player but Mendy needs to come back and take his spot for this season. King, I don't know why we gave him a new contract, this Summer or since 2012.. I appreciate him being loyal and turning down the 0 clubs wanting to sign him though. January a CM is a must. Mendy Drinkwater attack-minded CM and we're sorted. Or just play Kapustka.
cityfanlee23 Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 Problem is our entire midfield are all the same. Drinkwater is by a mile our best CM, Kante allowed him to go forward and create, If he does that now we have nothing in defence, so he ends up staying in the middle, passing sideways, backwards, or route 1 to nobody. We need either a gylfi sig style CAM to play infront of a midfield 2. Or a box to box powerhouse like Dembele who can take pressure of drinkwater to allow him to play more openly. James, King, and Amarey cannot do that IMO (Amartey maybe one day) Need mendy back to see what he is made of, but even then we need to strengthen. I'd sell James and King personally.

TheUltimateWinner Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 Didn't look like we played a midfield the first half, would love to see how many touches they had, we seemed to completely bypass them.
EGBFitness Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 We need to invest in 2 midfielders in Jan. Amartey and King are squad players, James seems like he is never getting a look in either way and Mendy seems like our Jack Wilshere to Arsenal. We need a strong, box to box midfielder who can support DD and also do the nitty gritty work to free him up (drinky is trying to play 2 roles at the minute) I like Albrighton but it isn't working for him this season as a LW. He is far to limited. He has played more as a RW towards the end of games recently too, maybe CR can see little happening too? We need a natural LW who's abit of an all rounder in terms of their game. Teams are setting up to sit deep to take away Vardys pace and one sided in terms of allowing Albrighton time and space but outnumbering Mahrez as he provides more threat with creativity.
Zola Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 Amartey and Gray are big potential. Next year i see Amartey in first 11. If Gray learns how to track back maybe we see even him, but he is physically still weak..

Guest Col city fan Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 Are all those people saying Amartey is ok, because they are HOPING he'll be ok? Because he's young and learning etc.? The player I see is cumbersome, will never score many goals, doesn't read the game, looks afraid and finally, is good in the air (there's a positive) Genuine question....this forum has always surprised me in terms of how some posters see football and footballers. But is anybody genuinely seeing something I'm not, in Amartey? We have nearly lost there today, at home, against Borough. And we now have a run of difficult games. Am I missing something?
adejo92 Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 Games aint just won on ability, we showed that last season. Its often won on players desire and confidence. Clearly our squad has lost both so changes need to be made. The likes of Gray need to come in and be given a real chance. CR is settling for shocking performances. Robbed Middlesbrough today and thats embarrassing being the home team.
Richard Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 Amartey has flashes of quality, we just see it all too often. His positional awareness is poor and is woefully obvious when playing in a two, especially alongside King. I think he could be alright as the pivot in a midfield three, we just don't have the personnel for it. A real playmaking midfielder is an absolute must either in Jan or the summer. King, Drinkwater, Amartey or James aren't that player, maybe Mendy is but we haven't seen enough of him.

You prefer King who is not young and cant learn anything anymore. Amartey can and he will improve together with Gray and Musa...

yorkie1999 Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 Drinky is the only cm with any quality we have. We need to sign another 2 cm's.

Amartey is technically poor, can't actually shoot to save his own life, has no game vision, no long range pass quality and his positioning is awful. He might be a half decent player in the 5-6 years (although I seriously doubt it) but he's right now not on Premier League level. And this won't change in a couple of months. He was better (or less worse) than King, no question, but today was a blatant display of his limits as a midfielder. But I do see a lot of potential in Gray.
