Foxes1 Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 We seem now to have fans on Foxes Talk advocating that we should have sold the pair of them during the summer transfer window. Hindsight is a wonderful thing how could anyone have known that so far this season they have failed to reach the heights of last season. If we had sold them FT would have gone into meltdown saying the club have no ambition and not interested in keeping their best players. Leicester City down the years have always been regarded by fans as a selling club, I for one am glad we have finally got rid of that tag, alright if we go down any players that don’t want to stay then let them go, but until that time comes let’s keep who we can. Some players and managers would do well to remember that the grass is not always greener on the other side I mean ask Joe Mattock, Paul Kitson, Mark McGhee etc
Ric Flair Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Vardy does seem to be worryingly one dimensional which was fine until we haven't been allowed to play like we're capable of. You look at his age and the deal he's one and it makes you wince. Mahrez is top drawer, he's not got his faults but he's absolutely class and you'd not sell players like that unless you have to. We won the league so certainly didn't.
Bayfox Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 It's hindsight as you say. Had we been in this position having sold them, the melt down would be worse, we have kept them they are under performing, but we know there are players in there. If we had let them go, as you say what statement would it have made.
Vindaloo FOX Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Vardy yes Mahrez no hope Vardy proves me wrong now .
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 No. You don't sell your best players. You buy good players to compliment them. Could you see Barcelona selling Messi, Suarez and Neymar? Both Vardy and Mahrez would look much better if they were playing with class midfielders. Like last season. All this...I'd sell him and I'd sell him is MISSING THE POINT. Our recruitment in the summer was fookin dreadful. If we had signed Silva in the summer, Vardy and Mahrez would look very very different now. And not signing a quality, younger centre back was a sin.
lgfualol Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Nah, I would have been livid if we sold either one. In hindsight, we probably should have cashed in on Vardy, but the total decline in our attack is surprising. Mahrez is still magic but we need someone able to help him out so he doesn't have to try and take on entire teams. But like Col said, surrounded by better players or if anyone actually had confidence, we'd be fine.
sylofox Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Easy to say with hind sight. I don't see many clubs queueing up to take either of them now. Wages and performances will put most off and rumours of a fall out. CR should drop them both and not to the bench. Give them a few games off and tell them to grow up. Make them both fight for there place or let them rot. Should we have sold them? No But we should have done a lot of things different in the summer. Topping up the air miles was a big mistake. CR's loyalty to the squad needs to be questioned. We all knew where we needed players a shame he did not see it.
norfolkfox222 Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Id actually say yes to Mahrez. At the moment i think the hype has gone to his head, he appears to be sulking almost to the extent he doesnt want to be here. I hope he proves me wrong. At least his penalties have improved.
filbertway Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 I don't think they should have been sold but I don't think we should have given Vardy such a ridiculous contract. We should have strengthened our defence and midfield. It's insane that a club that has been run so well in recent years could have such an awful summer.
norwichfox Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Sell our best players to move up the table...not the best move, as has already been proven with selling Kante. What should have happened this year is the owners/management saying no to our pre-season "competition", it was never going fill our players with confidence for the forthcoming season.
VLC86 Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Imagine if we had sold them and still started like this...
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Cannot understand anyone who thinks we should sell Riyad. Literally our only source of creativity apart from hoofs and running and the poor bloke has 3 men tightly marking him every game. He's a victim of expectations to say the least. If anyone thinks sellin Riyad and replacing him with some jobsworth like Scott sinclair is the answer then you're asking the wrong question. Vardy on the other hand is more understandable right now.... a very one-dimensional player to be sure
crazyleicester Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Ludicrous. Fancy winning the league for the first time, getting into the Champions League and selling your two most effective players! They scored 41 of our 68 league goals man! Two Ballon d'or shortlist nominees and talked about the world over. Neither has become a worse player but unfortunately clubs are wising up tactically against them. Whether they play deeper to negate Vardys pace or double and triple up on Mahrez when he gets the ball, they are being cleverer against the pair. The unfortunate thing for us as a team is it shows how ineffective we are in other positions. If they bring 2 or 3 on Mahrez that should mean we have space to exploit in other parts of the pitch. Unfortunately, the likes of King, Okazaki, Amartey etc are just not good enough to do anything with the ball. They do a 70% job and are not creative enough with the ball. If you look at a team like say Arsenal, you may want to load up against Sanchez and then they have Ozil, Walcott and Ramsey etc to do something with the ball. So to answer your question, a big fat NO. We keep our best players and add to them.

Exactly the point I was making in the pub on Saturday. The same principal applies to the increased contracts. The monumental backlash that would have occurred from the fans had the club not given the players the contracts they wanted would have been unbearable. These questions are a complete waste of time.
GingerrrFox Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Said in the summer we should cash in on Vardy. Mahrez is class and will come good but I think it's all gone to Vardy's head and he's so one dimensional that he can't change his game. He's not pressing and working like a dog anymore, he looks to have lost a yard of pace and quite frankly he's got nothing to offer if his pace goes.

I clocked him making 3 decent runs in the game on Saturday where a ball similar to last season would have put him in, unfortunately our utterly horrendous midfield completely failed to register and the ball ended up going back to Zieler and then pumped back to Boro.
Merging Cultures Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 No, but we shouldn't have given Vardy such a massive deal for so long.

Did they fail or is the supposed problem with Mahrez and Vardy bigger than we think. Are players even looking for Vardy or has he gone all big bollox and upset a few in the squad? I am only asking but do we have an itk that can shed some light.
Samilktray Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 Whoever gave the green light to Vardys new contracts needs the bullet

He was the best thing since sliced bread when he turned Arsenal down. The club were in a lose lose with this, let him go and people are fuming as we don't show ambition, show ambition and they get told they 'need the bullet' when he loses form.
