Guest CityFan 06 Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 Pleased that CR / management team have recognised to put Albrighton at RM recently, his best position in my view. His impact on his natural side has been evident - the cross to Slimani and that goalscoring tackle vs West Ham (H), the ball to Gray for the first goal yesterday. Now, you could argue he could of done those things at LM, but he still seems to be most effective at RM. The recent formation changes have also been very pleasing, we're starting to utilise our players to their best positions.
Monsell1976 Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 It's clear he only has the ability to use his right foot, on the left it's predicable that he has to use his strongest foot, so easy to defend. Still don't think he offers enough going forward, but his work rate gets him a place, with defensive responsibilities. Should imagine when the full squad is available, like king, he will struggle to hold down a place in the side.
FuchingKante Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 Makes sense as his main attribute is his crossing and he rarely cuts inside
crazyleicester Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 I thought RM meant he had signed for Real Madrid
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 Looks better on the right but who would you prefer to be at their best, Albrighton or Mahrez? No brainer for Claudio for 8 out of the 10 months of the season.
Fox92 Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 Always going to be better on the right. He's our best crosser, he's got to play there. Got fed up of him on the left, checking inside and overplaying the ball.
emmpii8 Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 Now that we've got that going and playing 3 in mid, let's hope CR doesn't throw King on to replace Ndidi or Mendy. Put him on in the 10 role and maximise that! Wasting him making him do the defensive work
lgfualol Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 It's painful watching him run at full speed, cut inside losing all momentum and crossing it into the defenders shin. On the right he can let rip. Much better.

King is one of our best finishers, and in earlier years he used to get forward a lot and score goals. We are lacking some creativity in the CAM role, King could be ideal in that slot.
BigWesMorgan Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 Lost his touch a bit this season but his defensive work rate is always an asset to the team that not many other players offer.
Stadt Posted 8 January 2017 Posted 8 January 2017 If we're playing Slimani then it doesn't make sense to play with inverted wingers, especially when our fullbacks don't usually provide width.

Agreed. If we persist with the 4-3-3, Albrighton should be on the RW when Slimani plays.
Jimmy Posted 9 January 2017 Posted 9 January 2017 I still think if we stick with 433 Albrighton has the defensive discipline to convert himself to an attacking right back then allowing Mahrez and Gray to play upfront with Slim/Musa/Vardy, with 2 from Amartey, NDidi & Mendy screening in midfield it could work for us, if we can't or won't do that Albrighton HAS to play on the right wing

shen Posted 9 January 2017 Posted 9 January 2017 There's far more potential playing him on the right and Mahrez on the left for a number of reasons: 1) With Slimani in the team, you want lots of crosses in to him. Combine it with the pace of Vardy/Musa alongside him and you want inswinging passes down the channels or deep crosses, which are best served that constellation. 2) Mahrez is far more likely to adapt to the left and have a decent right foot, i.e. potential to cut inside and add unpredictability than Albrighton. 3) Schlupp, Fuchs and Chilwell are all far more attacking fullbacks than Simpson, Hernandez and potentially Amartey at right back. If and when Mahrez cuts inside, an advancing full back on the left will stretch defenses and either give Mahrez and other attackers more space or a passing option.
st albans fox Posted 9 January 2017 Posted 9 January 2017 The ball for gray on Saturday was from the left midfield position?

Koke Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 Part of the problem is our full back don't provide enough width. Chilwell and Fuchs do but Simpson looks lost once he reaches the halfway line. Any chance of signing a RB this window to bed him in and prepare him for next season? I don't think I can take another season of Simpson and his inability to do anything productive in the opposition half. Mahrez indifferent form is partly down to Simpson. Mahrez gets doubled teamed and triple teamed, and gets zero help from Simpson as an outlet.

Gerard Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 It's a pity we can't use Simpson and Albrighton as a tag team and play them at right back. Albrighton on the pitch when we have the ball, Simpson on when we don't. I'd like us to persist in the 4-5-1 formation with three natural CM's and two attacking wide men but you can't play Albrighton with 3*CM's as we don't have enough flair players on the pitch. The wide men would have to be two from Mahrez, Gray and Musa and Albrighton coming on to see out a game.

He has always adapted his game, to whatever position he's played for us. RWB, LW even RB against Norwich when he got that vital assist for Ulloa. In the 4-3-3 I'd expect Albrighton to adapt once more, playing on the RW until Mahrez comes back. Can see him being one of our most vital players in the coming weeks.
