Howe had more money to spend on players (Charlie Austin, Danny Ings, Kieran Trippier, Ben Mee, Jason Shackell, Sam Vokes) than Dyche who got Burnley up on a shoestring budget with FREEBIES Tom Heaton, Dave Jones and Scott Arfield. Bournemouth aren't exactly the minnow that they're portrayed as and Howe is overrated by some but that's very disingenuous. It didn't work out for him at Burnley but it doesn't make him a bad manager.

It's funny but in an attempt to discredit Howe they're you just highlighted what a great manager he is. What did you make on the sale of Austin and Ings combined about 10 million? Tidy profit on Trippier as well I should imagine. Vokes still gets in your team in the Premier League as does Ben Mee. Not to mention Inges and Vokes were a major reason you got the PL and access to all of that lovely TV money in the first place.
lancyclaret Posted 2 March 2017 Posted 2 March 2017 Howe did sign Trippier, Vokes and Mee on loan initially but my point was the board gave EH plenty of money to spend on players whereas the cupboard was bare when Dyche started the 2013/14 promotion campaign (Austin was sold to QPR just ONE day before the start of the season). Burnley were 8th in the Championship when Howe arrived, but 18 months later he left them 16th/17th in the Championship - with a sieve-like defence. In the 33 games after Dyche arrived, Burnley had the SECOND best defence in the division behind eventual champions Cardiff and the following season he got them promoted when they were 5th favourites for relegation. "Smug Eddie" and his slimy sidekick Jason Tindall are why I would love Bournemouth to go down ahead of anyone else. Hopefully, along with Crackpot Karanka and Allardyce. Sadly, I think Sunderland will be the reason why at least one of these teams will survive.
Darkon84 Posted 2 March 2017 Posted 2 March 2017 Blimey, it's like Dyche is actually in here, jumping in with the same old, boring 'We're tiny Burnley without tuppence to rub together whereas everyone else are just big bully bumboys with all their money, it's not fair, waaa waaa waaa'.
foxes21 Posted 2 March 2017 Posted 2 March 2017 eddie howe will go to the emirates and try to outpass arsenal. the guy refuses to adapt to the opposition and you can't do that unless you're barcelona. pulis is a better manager.

Patrick Posted 3 March 2017 Posted 3 March 2017 Hugely overrated manager. His teams play nice football but that's about it, I also generally don't think he's enough of an authoritative personality to ever manage a top club and big players. Can you imagine him trying to manage a Zlatan or Costa type player if things went wrong? They'd just laugh in his face.
Fox92 Posted 4 March 2017 Posted 4 March 2017 At least he attacks. 15mins gone in this game and they've given Manchester United a good go at Old Trafford. Better than watching sides that just go and sit 10 behind the ball.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 They're starting to struggle. The 'plucky Bournemouth' tag in wearing really thin and their lack of quality is there for all to see. As people say they can't defend for toffee and the free flowing creative spark seems to be absent at the moment. As for Howe himself I don't think he's in the twitter 'fraud' category just yet, however talk of him being the next England or Arsenal manager is laughable. When he went Burnley he got shown up real fast, I've said it before, him and Bournemouth are made for each other, when he leaves they'll plummet imo. Good riddance too as I'm fed up of pseudo cockney cab drivers down here giving it the biggun about playing 'The Bournemouth Way', whatever the fvck that means.
Ric Flair Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 Astounded by the space they left for Utd, it was like watching us there earlier in the season. Utd should have won this about 10-2, but at times Bournemouth played some stunning football with some very unfashionable players. Howe might be over-rated but he's got the reputation he has by being a bit different and having principles he refuses to budge from. I think he'll fall short of ever successfully managing a big club but fair play for what he's doing. I think they are in trouble though with that abysmal defence.

Dan Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 Still can't believe we went away there and played for the point, and lost 1-0

Of course they're starting to struggle, it's Bournemouth. They are the smallest club in the division and punching way above themselves to actually be playing top flight football. He signed the majority of players that are in the Burnley side, or were at least successful with Burnley including the likes of Ings. They play good football, had plenty of chances at Old Trafford, and with better players who knows what he might do.
Koke Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 Bournemouth are the smallest club in this league so on that basis Howe has done well. But his big money signings have been a let down. Mings, Afobe and Ibe for a combined transfer £34m. Ibe has 2 goals and 1 assist in 40 Premier League appearances. Gradel £7m and on £40.000 a week and he can't get a game for them. I don't think a club the size of Bournemouth can afford to just waste money like that.

Burnley fans and manager all the same, hope they go down
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 Can't believe people are trying to imply Howe's not a good manager, Sure you might not like him personally because he's posh, handsome and successful, but let's not pretend he's not a decent manager, getting Bournemouth in the PL and keeping them up is a miracle even if they do have some money.
Nalis Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 The bottom 3 in their current form are unlikely to catch Bournemouth. We'll probably both be safe before the last game of the season.

If peoples opinion is genuinely based on this they need to have a ****ing word with themselves! You've said the right thing though, he is a "Decent" manager, just like a lot of others.... this thread was really aimed at asking whether the hype surrounding him is justified. I want to see him at a Stoke/Watford/West Ham/Everton next season, really go out there and earn his stripes. That or a Leeds/Newcastle if they go up because I can see Benitez and Monk being tempted by other offers and ownership structures. But he needs to think about defence in some way, because at the minute I don't rate them any higher than Blackpool's season in this league, they were entertaining to watch too.....

It has to be jealousy, because there's nothing wrong with the bloke, seems a fair guy in interviews, gets his team playing good football honestly (apart from Tyrone Mings) and no doubt he's worked wonders at Bournemouth. Think your comment about Blackpool has an element of truth in it although also an exaggeration - last season they were better attacking than defensively and this season it's even more pronounced but they aren't a kamikaze joke outfit like Blackpool under Holloway.

I agree the hatred based on personality is something completely absurd and is just engrained in the average working class football fan along with sexism and moaning about ticket prices whilst sinking 10 pints before a match.... I think it's time for him to move on anyway, I just hope he's sensible enough not to accept a massive jump!

I really do see him replacing Wenger at Arsenal
