Isn't this just 'playing a pressing game', but written in German?

If so, what point?

No its slightly different, it means immediate pressing so literally as soon as the players lose the ball two or three of them immeditately try and get the ball back rather than dropping off and waiting to press. Its a subtle difference but its a difference, its very similar but a slight development

This video explains it well:

I remember boxing day of last season when Liverpool beat us at Anfield was the first time I saw this kind of strategy live and it was super super effective, every time a player of ours got the ball there were three players around him and our players looked like they had not idea what to do.

However of course the issue is it makes players so tired so you can see why some mangers like Shakey prefer to press high up the pitch but drop back if the ball gets past this initial Vardy/Shinji press

The rise of pressing tactics and them being so effective just shows how the prem lacks a bit of quality on the ball in comparison to other leagues etc

The word gegen is from Germany. It kind of suggests they do pressing there . Atletico Madrid have had a lot of success with pressing too.

Sorry, but Liverpool were and are essentially using a variation of the style we use/used.

You can't be rigid in any sort of system, no team can do things exactly the same as another because different personnel and even different opposition will demand variation.

People discussing our style of play makes them 'over clever contributors'?

Stick to the threads slagging off Keown and Crooks if you don't want to get involved in a football based exchange!

On-topic... I don't think we play a 'Gegenpress' style because we don't press in groups. The forwards do and the midfield and defence hold shape.

Gegenpress = hipster cnut word

That's not true if we're doing it properly, the way we were this season. It wasn't just Kante winning the ball back on his own all the while, we funnelled them into him with 2 or 3 other players.

Yes, that's what gegenpressing is, its a variation of pressing as a general football tactic, as the video I linked above shows there are loads of different ways to do pressing, for this type a player gets the ball and is hounded and surrounded by three or four players as it notes Liverpool did this agaisnt Spurs when they went at Rose because he is a weakish passer.

Some managers will have one player go for the ball and two more block passing channels, others will have them press possible passing options.

It is all of course just variations on a theme, but its rare to see three Leicester players sprinting off to surround one particular player the second he gets the ball, which is what Liverpool often do

Gegenpressing ....   very modern.    When I was a lad ...    (yawnnn !!!) ...     we used to play a system called  "Punktball',  which is German for "Point ball" ...      when us heavy smoking, beer swilling chumps lost the ball we would stand still and point at it and say  "Yours !!"  to a team mate.  It was then up to him to try and get the ball back.    We were probably ahead of our time ...

People need to move with the times.  My German team is St Pauli I have grown a big beard and my jeans look like a tramps slept in them.  I like to reminisce about James Richardson and scream goooaallllazio when my team score and I've just signed up to BT sports for their coverage of Brasileiro Serie A.

Is this a wind up question? We are playing english style, not too much nicety, in your face and get the job done. Hopefully, when we are out of the EU, no more of these stupid topics from over clever contributors.

Yes down with the over-clever people and up with leaving the EU and keeping the immigrants off our server.

Let's make Foxestalk great again.
