smudger63 Posted 5 March 2017 Posted 5 March 2017 All we are doing again now, is what we were doing last season. For what ever reason, Ranieri seemed to go away from the high press game, which had won us the league. To be fair, possibly the introduction of Ndidi has maybe allowed us more freedom to go back to that way of playing. He did say something pre season about us maybe having to slightly adapt our game a bit, because other teams will have worked us out, and yet the truth is, by half way through last season, teams had worked us out, but we still managed to get results against them. All Shakespeare has done, is basically gone back to what worked so well last season, and all credit to him for that. What we don`t need now is a new manager with new ideas coming in, and upsetting what we`ve seemingly got going again. To not give Shakespeare the job now, until the end of the season, would be a huge gamble in my opinion. Then at the end of the season, the owners and club have some huge decisions to make, in regards to the type of manager they want, and also on the players, which will differ of course, depending on which division we are in.
BoyJones Posted 5 March 2017 Posted 5 March 2017 Is this a wind up question? We are playing english style, not too much nicety, in your face and get the job done. Hopefully, when we are out of the EU, no more of these stupid topics from over clever contributors.

We also utilise a false 9 but the default position of Shinji makes him more of a 9 and a half. Or a false false 9 which is to say a regular number 9. Riyad gets a lot of success when he's used as a raumdeuter. Craig is a genius. If he grew a beard and wore a leather jacket on the touchline, he'd be perfect. I'd also respect him a hell of a lot more if he was Spanish. Craig gets no respect because he's seen as a "proper football man", not a tactical genius. He needs to get a haircut, get a bit liimmer and wear a suit ala Marco Silva.

sm1 Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 Not out of the question that we employ a gegenpressing method. Claudio did go and see Klopp at Dormund and looked at his training methods before we hired him. When he came here and saw the work rate of Vardy & Shinji up front, he realised we were made for this technique. Then we got Kante and the rest is history as they say.
UPinCarolina Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 Ndidi is allowing us to play the way we played with Kante. It's a shame we didn't have him for the entire season. In retrospect, the January window seems brighter.

stretch1965 Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 Good job Spurs fans didn't know about this or they would have added it to the list as to why they didn't win the league

Stuntman_Mike Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 I thought our tactics last season were based on the 'blue waffle' style. Could be wrong.

surrifox Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 I thought for most of the season we have been employing tactics popularised by Hoofenheim

Stick to the threads slagging off Keown and Crooks if you don't want to get involved in a football based exchange! On-topic... I don't think we play a 'Gegenpress' style because we don't press in groups. The forwards do and the midfield and defence hold shape. Gegenpress = hipster cnut word
Guest Col city fan Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 Isn't this just 'playing a pressing game', but written in German? If so, what point?
