Granted Huth is big, the other three are all 6ft 0. That's why we never score from corners.

HM mmm

Kevin Keegan 5ft 8

David Speedie 5ft 7

Both scored plenty of headed goals. It's not just height.

Have a look at Ahmed Musa on you tube, he looks world class...we don't need any more unknown, unproven hopefuls...we need a few established, proven Premiership players to add to the squad.

This lad may be great, but let someone else take a chance on him, lets go for proven performers!

No he doesn't. I saw musa on YouTube prior to signing and it was clear thst there was speed but no end product. The amount of misplaced crosses and passes in his highlights was ridiculous.

Every ****ing transfer window the same ****ing shit.

We need established premier league players, we need established premier league players. Kindly shut the **** up.

Not just you, sorry, but bloody everyone. It's probably the most moronic, stupid, backwards, thick, Neanderthal view in football.

We need established premier league players like Ngolo Kante, Eden Hazard, Diego Costa, Zlatan, Wilfred Ndidi, David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Christian Eriksen, Idrissa Gueye and the countless other foreign players who came straight in from non English leagues and smashed it straight away.

Who in their right mind looks at a list like that and goes "not for me thanks, I'd rather we sign some journeyman that joins a newly promoted team every year and gets relegated thanks."

Where are all these established premier league players coming from? And which established premier league club are going to let them go for under thirty million to a rival, given the amount of money we all have?

My god, it's got to be the single stupidest phrase repeatedly polluting this forum.

No, we don't want to sign another Ahmed Musa but equally we'd all love another Riyad or Ngolo. You live and die by your scouting team regardless of whether or not they recruit from England, France or Timbuktu.

Good players are everywhere, bad players are everywhere. The difference being you get better value for money on the ones that ARENT "established premier league players."

Widen your nets, actually watch some football that isn't match of the day, you'll realise there's talent all over the globe and we'd love it here.

Arrrrghhhhh.

Rant over.

All jokes aside, this would be a brilliant signing - I didn't realise he is only 24! Sign him up alongside Mbodji (who will apparently be let to leave Anderlecht for £9m!) or Gibson and we're pretty much set at CB.

Sorry you think my opinion is "moronic, stupid, backwards and thick", I will try harder to agree with you on every issue in future.

I'll also guarantee not to tell anyone else I disagree with to "shut the **** up"...I suspect I know which one of us may be closer to the Neanderthal here!

Game of opinions, I wont upset you further by listing the endless number of players who don't come in a "smash it straight away" as it would take too long.

Yeah I was having a bit of a rant this morning, I apologise for my tone. I don't apologise for calling the point idiotic, though.

Of course you can list a bunch of foreign flops, that was my point, you can name both flops and successes both domestically and abroad.

There's a great example of a player I can even think of who represents both. He was incredible when signed from abroad and wank when he was signed as an "established premier league player"... Fernando Torres!

The point is that every transfer is a risk and, as I said, you live and die by your scout network.

The idea of targeting "established premier league" players is just a ridiculous idea based on non truths and the awful and erroneous assumption that premier league players are some sort of super elite.

Eh? We've got 6ft3 Robert Huth, 6ft2 Wes Morgan, 6ft1 Wasilewski and 6ft2 Benalouane.

Hardly midgets.

Was is way taller than 6'1. He's taller than Zieler who is 6'2. When we met him, he was frickin massive!

I know right!

Fair comment, and always healthy to debate a point...equally I still disagree!

As an example take Maguire or Gibson, two centre halves we've been linked with recently...I would say they are proven in the Premiership, in the sense we know they fit in with the culture, have developed in a premier league set up and can cope with the pace, and type of high tempo play that the Premiership offers...and I would suggest that you have a better chance of one of them developing further in a better quality side, which City are to Boro' and Hull, than you would taking a player from abroad, say M'Bodj, who we've also been linked with. The risk is still there, but some of the variables you mention have been removed, hence it is a lower risk, but equally you may have to pay more. We have the money so that isn't an issue, I would simply prefer to see us go for less risky signings, I think the foreign imports always come with a higher risk.

For clarity I am not saying those two are by any means the best options available, just saying that they are "proven" to have been up to the task of performing relatively well in the Premierhip, hence "proven", but with lots of development still available in a better side.

I would also say the same about someone like Sigurdsson, who would only be available if Swansea go down, I would rather see us sing him, proven over quite a few seasons, over someone who is an unknown quantity in the Premier League.

To make it relevant to City just imagine if we had pursued Gueye from Villa instead of Mendy...everyone knew what Gueye could do, as he had proven it in a crap Villa side, and he has developed even more with better players around him at Everton, his signing would have been much lower risk than Mendy, you could equally argue Michael Keane over Hernandez, although my fee argument would be incorrect.

We could list of examples of pros/cons all day long, at the end of the day all transfers are a risk, perhaps I am just more risk averse than you are!

Maguire and Gibson are being linked to us for thirty million each and neither are "proven", they've had one season at this level.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. They could come here and be no better than what we already have, we don't really know for certain until we see them in this team and even then we could end up paying vastly more for them than Murillo, who has played top level football for Inter yet would still probably cost about half. Or Kara Mbdoj, who'd come with the same European experience from the same league as Ndidi for about a third of what they want for Gibson who was a Championship player until nine months ago and is a part of a team that's getting relegated pitifully at the first attempt.
