ur a moron, if u dont keep ur team refreshed u go stale thats why the big teams stay at the top, because they bring players in all the time.and its not a matter of change , but to put pressure on the players to preform, notice how many options the really good sides have.

I agree since we got iheanacho okazaki's played much better

There's nothing like competition for places. We need more throughout the team.

All this drama surrounding a player we might sign or not.

Realize that Hoedt isn't our only potential solution to our aging defense, that there are many other options around (it's not like we truly have to hold back in terms of budget) and that the transfer window's open for another ten days.

Relax.

I'd rather we went for an attacking midfielder instead, don't see the issue in the center of defense. Not yet.

Both Morgan and Huth are good enough for at least another season.

Have we even been linked with him in this window?

I've not seen anything personally but he would certainly add competition for places if we signed a quality player like this

So it should probably be in the 'who do you want' section then?! I don't know much about him personally but we clearly need some more depth at CB

Can't agree with this, Wes has struggled big time in the first two games. I'm not sure if its his ongoing back problem or just the fact he's getting older and slower (more than likely a combination of both). Either way, where's the back up. Benny, Amartey, I don't think so? We need a quality cb replacement this transfer window as absolute priority imo.

We have been linked with him previously (see first post), it appeared he was in talks with Southampton but as they seem determined to keep Van Dyke the deal may have collapsed, imo we should take a serious look at this lad, quality/price a no brainer

I read that Lazio's director says it's pretty much a done deal with Southampton

Close thread!

The most incredible thing about this thread is that it only made p6! Mind you, I'm sure FT can add another half dozen pages in the time between the player hahaving his medical and being announced !

Opportunity lost! This lad has real potential! Wait a year or so for the wailing to begin !....

I cannot wait a year - the backward looking 'should of' (sic) post is an absolute 'favourite' of mine...

In fairness Southampton have unearthed talent time and time again by signing players similar to this. Van Dijk, Lovren and Alderweireld all spring to mind. Maybe we should have pursued this fella on that basis alone.

Then again time will tell.

Why are we not being linked with Wimmer from Spurs ?  Every other bugger seems to be after him, if they want a Centre Back - notably West Brom, Stoke and Palace.  Spurs are only looking for £20m (cheap in todays market) - turning down bids of £15m.

I think we are trying to reduce the wage bill badly at the moment. Hence why it's gone so quite on the incoming front.

The club are trying to desperatley offload Mendy, Benaloune & Musa.

Will prove rather difficult, given the fact these three players have been given little game time in recent weeks (Benalouane, Musa) or are fighting back from a series of unfortunate injuries (Mendy).

Expect us to make a loss on them on the whole if they should definitely be sold.

Instead of selling them, I'd rather we loaned them out so they can show what they're really made of, because there is potential.

Musa to Hull, for instance, wouldn't be so bad (teaming up with Slutsky again) and Benalouane can be an asset for any smaller PL team, such as Huddersfield or Brighton.

I agree completely. The club dont need to sell for funds. They're is plenty of funds still available to bring in 2 more upgrades to our side in this market.

However the club's concern is the wage bill seems to be rising n rising & there's to many players on our roster happy to do nothing n pick up a pay cheque each week.

The lack of activity isn't due to Rudkin deciding he's going to hibernate for a few weeks... Irons are in the fire. But the board will not be taken liberty to the deadwood they're trying to get rid of so to speak.

Wimmer is a left footed / left sided defender, apparently one of the key criteria we have for a new Centre Back. He's only 24 and an Austrian International. I would be surprised if we haven't looked at him and Fuchs will be aware of his abilities. £20m is a reasonable price this summer.

possibly because our scouts have concluded he's a dud. They have been trying to unload him for some time and there's a reason he doesn't get much game time. Being a spurs player even their rejects are marketed with a 20 mill price tag

I recall seeing Wimmer live 3/4 years ago playing for LASK Linz and he looked decent then despite being so young.  This would be a very good signing given the aledged price and his age.  Shame he will get snapped before we get our fax sent.

Don't agree, this guy looks good to me and he's still young. He never got a chance at Spurs with Vertonghen and Alderweireld being the preferred options, and now he's gone further down in the pecking order with them signing Davinson Sanchez for big money. Gerriminn ffs. We don't want to be signing another Molly on the last day

Boat's and Hoedts boys.

Deadliest catch without the crabs...

When will people realise that the club have their own methods on scouting players and recruitment, and stop thinking that our scouts should have their heads in the newspapers everyday looking for who clubs like Southampton are looking at, and scouting/bidding for him just because Southampton are apparently good at spotting talent?
