davieG Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 FA Cup replays set to be ditched... and competition may soon be a midweek event as governing body chiefs target Premier League winter break The growing importance of televised Premier League matches at weekends is set to signal the end of FA Cup replays from the third round. The PL, whose summer meeting was dominated by discussion of televised football, primarily see themselves as a weekend competition and are looking at ways they can engineer one or two new slots for football on Saturdays and Sundays when their rights have the most value. Friday nights have not proved a success, and Monday nights are no good for the top clubs involved in European competition. The FA’s big ambition is for a winter break to help the tournament fortunes of the national team; to make that happen their main bargaining chip with the Premier League is to give up some FA Cup weekends. This could be done by abolishing Cup replays from the third round and turning the competition into primarily a midweek event. Talks on revamping the calendar are on the agenda of both the FA and Premier League, with club bosses believing that the inevitable outcome will be the loss of replays in the FA Cup third, fourth and fifth rounds and the introduction of a winter break. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4604934/FA-Cup-soon-midweek-event-replays-ditched.html
filbertway Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 So glad I follow Coalville. Boxing day may as well not exist without footie and a day on the lash.
Guest Foxin_mad Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Will just make it worse, like the league cup no one will care about it. England will still be shit with or without a winter break.
Ashley Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Midweek FA Cup will be the final coffin for Football. The FA/Wembeky Stadium LTD have already sold their sole. The FA Cup is the worlds best and most known cup competition. Leave Wembley for the Final get Semi-Finals back at Old Trafford & Villa Park(Emirates subtitue maybe?)
sylofox Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Just scrap the fvcking international breaks. Who even watches that shite now. I watched and will watch England Scotland games (that was shite) but the rest who cares. Whoppy do so we go to Russia having dropped 2pts we will still be one of the first home.

I'm completely fed up with international football to be honest. That international break about 2 weeks into the season what the fook is that all about anyway? Ridiculous.

Sol thewall Bamba Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Death of the best knock out cup in world football.
Ashley Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Just now, HighPeakFox said: Is it? Or are we just told that repeatedly? It is. Everyone knows the FA Cup. See comment above too.

davieG Posted 15 June 2017 Author Posted 15 June 2017 Football as I know it has been ****ed for a long while like lots of things. I've come to the conclusion that you can't stop the money men their appetite is insatiable so I've learned to just go with the flow there's really no point in letting it upset you.
Tuna Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Abolishing replays would be a good idea, no more of these ridiculous crap teams being put out by uninterested managers (Mr J. Klopp for example).
davieG Posted 15 June 2017 Author Posted 15 June 2017 It may now not be the best due to it's continuous watering down but it's the oldest and original. "The FA Cup, known officially as The Football Association Challenge Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest association football competition in the world"
RonnieTodger Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 So glad we won the league when we did, because football is going down the shitter. "Importance" of Premier League games is bollocks.
HighPeakFox Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 To paraphrase, money corrupts, and absolutely huge money corrupts absolutely.
Voll Blau Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Seems the FA are hellbent on taking the very worst aspects of other countries' football setups and implementing them in the belief it'll magically transform England's fortunes. Shit idea.
davieG Posted 15 June 2017 Author Posted 15 June 2017 I don't think 'modern football' is to blame for the ongoing poor performances of England, When were we ever successful at tournament level, 1966 in England. All these things they are blaming doesn't make players better, able to take penalties under pressure. Our style of football is better for league type competitions rather than KO out ones.
Mike Oxlong Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 It really doesn't mean that much to a lot of the Premier club owners, even if it does to the fans. Putting out second string sides really says it all and has utterly devalued the competition from what it was. Cash is king I'm afraid and that's where the priorities lie. The only way to revive it is to offer the 4th CL spot to the winner. Wouldn't mind seeing Champuionship sides and below having the dream of lining up at the Nou Camp or the Bernabau. .
Kitchandro Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Just a double barrel of bad news. FA cup ruined and more crappy weeks without football. How thick have you got to be to think England will be better at the World Cup because the players didn't play for 2 weeks 7 months earlier. Unbelievable.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Another downgrading of what was once a fantastic tournament, moaning managers are largely to blame, their prized assets unable to play twice a week.

Let's have a round of internationals 3 weeks after everyone's finished playing. 99% of players will be on the beach but those playing will look much better after 3 extra weeks training. And bound to look happy knowing there mates are all partying. I really don't blame the players for that shite against Scotland. It really must have felt like after school detention. FIFA uefa get a fvcking grip ffs.
foxy boxing Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 It's more important to finish in the top four or avoid relegation for clubs than being in the F.A. cup with teams even like Bournemouth fielding weakened sides against good opposition!. with an already heavy calendar it's a good thing scrapping replays and making it more exiting having penalty shoot outs! the competition only really counts if you get to the last four and teams like Arsenal use it to save their season!
