Ashley Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Seen a few people mention it still wouldn't suit English football you're right it wouldn't but this isn't the problem far from it. There needs to be a overhaul in restructure at the FA and the way our sides our set up it's simple. We need a brand of Football such as the Italians, Germans, Spanish. The way they are set up from kids levels to full International says it all. Throughout all levels they are told/asked to play a certain way so when they move up it continues(a few academies operate this way in England too Tottenham and Southampton I believe) Our U21s such as Rashford, Alli, Sterling & Butland etc all the big 'names' NEED to be going to the U21 Championships to play. Again you only need to look at the German U21s who beat England 4-0 to see the evidence.. guess what they went on to win the World Cup too. If those players I mentioned don't go or want to pull out - ban them? Unless they are seriously injured.
mozartfox Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Sad this, I felt the same when they ditched the Anglo- Scottish Cup.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 People only give a shit about England the day after we get knocked out when the post-mortem happens. Don't mess with club football with the excuse of improving the national team because everyone knows the PL is just telling the FA what they want at this point.

yorkie1999 Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Goes to show, the FA are only interested in the national team, probably because the sponsorship keeps them in business and it's their only bit of power over premiership players, they're showing they are willing to sacrifice their own premier competition in the name of money and the slight clinging on to a bit of power in English football.

It certainly WAS in Oz... but that was back in the 70s/80s and we had an enormous British population (good old "white australia" policy ) Cup final week the news and newspapers were filled with FA cup stuff... these days... meh not so much. Moving the kickoff to 5.30 doesnt help as it means it kicks off between 2-5am across Oz.

Lovejoy Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Might as well call it the Checkatrade Trophy for all clubs. It will become as insignificant as the French, German, Italian equivalents. Feels inevitable though, sadly.
MPH Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Alot of the smaller clubs benefit greatly from the replay revenue.. Maybe no replays from.. say 6th round onwards?
lcfcben76 Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 It's just sad really isn't it, honestly losing some intrest for the game with all this tv bollocks
HighPeakFox Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 1 hour ago, Sol thewall Bamba said: Which domestic knockout competition would you propose is better then? Well, my point here was that trying to discredit someone by calling them a Hipster is fairly rubbish. Let's put it this way - I cannot know for sure. However, just repeating a mantra because you've been told it year on year does not make it true. We've just had a national example of a repeated 'known' being shown up. And how about this less controversial example, from a certain Mark Lawrenson: Presenter: 'Can Leicester win the League?' ML: 'No' Presenter: 'Why not?' ML: 'Because they can't' Not only a pathetic non-argument, based on hubris and arrogance, but simply based on another repeated 'known'.
purpleronnie Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 I agree with no replays, far too much football already. Obviously smaller clubs won't like that but maybe more smaller clubs will progress further and earn more that way as they often lose the replay.
Dan Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Another horrendous idea and a nail in another competition to strengthen the PL's dominant grip that bit more.
Fox92 Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Yet more killing of English football. Sky and the Premier League really are ruining it all and nobody, not even fans, seem to care. They can do anything they want, they'll still get packed out grounds every week. Sad.
filbertway Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 I'm surprised England have even been mentioned here. It's clearly just for the Premier League's benefit and I'm sure they'll sort the FA out financially in return. I'm not against scrapping replays for cups to be honest, I think they should increase the prize fund though. Considering there's billions floating around the English game that shouldn't be an issue. If you care about the England national squad, have a rule stating that at least 6 players able to represent England must start a game. We barely develop talent because we hardly give any a chance to develop.

It could all go horribly wrong for Sky....and all of us clubs that are now dependant on their money.... http://www.football365.com/news/sky-suffer-record-drop-in-viewers-for-prem-games
Brainy Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 If you want to get rid of international breaks then I presume you'd be happy with no World Cups/Euros. I mean why would you want to see a team of strangers representing us every two years? (in before the thats what happens anyway joke)

Football on Sky has turned into a a channel for the casual viewer and not the football fan who's only interested in their own team

Far Post Gerry Posted 15 June 2017 Posted 15 June 2017 Why don't they just scrap the league cup? I know we've had some good moments in it but honestly, no-one would miss it if it went. Instead they screw up the world's most romantic, historic cup competition. They're killing football's heritage.

Because it's nothing to do with the FA (although needs to be approved by them) or PL it's one of the ways albeit small that the EFL can generate it's own income. If the PL spread it's vast income a bit further then these other competitions would not be so necessary to raise money, unfortunately it's going the other with the'big' clubs now demanding the lions share of the PL overseas TV income on the basis of that's who they want see play. However this is because they already get a massive proportion of TV income so it becomes ever more self full filling that the big clubs remain big and thus demand more.
