Mersons season predictions !!

If Mahrez stays then I think we're the best side not involved in Europe this season and that factor could help us nudge into the top 7 if we're around 8th come April and have a good closing run as others run out of steam and bodies. For the pundits it's difficult to make the  prediction before the window closes but the clubs I'd find hard to predict are Newcastle who have momentum but on paper don't look too special, West Ham for who if everyone is fit and available they would be a decent side and Southampton with their latest manager and latest fight to hold onto key players or find replacements. Everton have made changes but it still may not be enough to burst into the top six bubble, so it's with those clubs that I see as being our mini-league to try to top to be 7th. I could only see a pundit predicting doom and gloom for us if they thought Shakey was a poor choice but as we've already had a steady trial run with him they wouldn't have the foundation to argue that.

No last year was just unforgettable god knows what went on but if they really did throw games to get rid of CR then that's totally unforgivable,we could have been about top 6 last season if some didn't throw their rattles out of their pram and cause us to hover round relegation places?!

Does anyone seriously suggest the players threw games?

If only he'd paid closer attention to us last season - we were utterly dreadful from August to December, and an absolute disgrace for January and much of February; yet despite that, we would have finished 9th were it not for a linesmans wrong offside on the last day of the season. Not to mention the depleted back line being a big factor during that time as well as Champions League distractions.

I don't see us being that appalling again. We've got a much stronger squad and no distractions - I genuinely believe that we can finish in the top 6.

Agree...i think we have a stronger squad than when we won the league...we beat Sevilla and gave Ath. Madrid a run for their money ...i think if Mahrez stays

we are a match for any team...

mans a deluded crack addict degenerate gambler wAufho blew his fortune and footballers pension and works for sky now as the 'clown'

But thats exactly what makes him  a great pundit....

I might not agree most of the time with Skys or BBCs various pundits and panellists, but they have all had  decent careers

and just like forum members on foxestalk, they also come out with

crap, rubbish, Top, silly, competent, incompetent, contradictive, fascinating, laughable, clever, good-call, spot-on, way-off,

Ideas, statements and thoughts....its all part of the game...

I enjoy Skys super saturday, or BBCs MOTD...how  boring it would be if there was just a Stream  of boring agreements

and Pleasant same opinions.

Gud ol Mers...top man, like the re s t of them!!!:scarf:

I think he's not far off with those predictions although it's probably not that difficult to get a consensus over the top, the middlers and the likely strugglers (though one of those newbies might be an unexpected bolter). And he's better than Lawrenson tbf. The again who isn't?

We will struggle to break top 6 simply on comparative playing resources. But who knows -  good run with confidence? Alternatively some bad luck with injuries could see us in some choppy waters. So 9th not a bad shout, but obviously I hope for title again!

I think without injury problems and European commitments, and if Mahrez doesn't leave we can get top 4.

And considering the strength of the big boys currently, that would basically be as big as our title win.

I really think people are underestimating the benefit of not having midweek games abroad. Us and Chelsea winning the title is a testament to that, as well as Liverpool coming close a couple of years ago.

Interesting to see that since 2000-01 we have on average the 6th best start (first five games) of any prem side.

During the MON era we were a top 10 side. In 14/15 we had a terrible run of fixtures but were as high as 5th after we beat Man U. We all know what happened in 15/16 and last year we lost two, drew one and won two.

This seasons first 5 games are surely the toughest (on paper) that we have ever had to face. Get through them without too many loses and I genuinely think we will be right up there!! Come on city ??

So Paul Merson has released his end of season table on who he thinks will win the Premier League and who will be relegated, and I was one was quite surprised that he placed us in 9th position !

I honestly thought he would have placed us lower but looking through it I think we could finish as high as 5th if all goes to plan with Vardy and iheanacho linking up and if we can pick up another CB could be another great season for us so fingers crossed ? !!

ESPNFC have us ranked 8th behind the # London team, 2 Liverpool Teams and the 3 Manchester teams.

I think the Spuds will suffer playing all their home games at Wembley this season !

I spoke to a Spurs fan a couple of days ago that said they dont play well there and he is just hoping that they manage to stay in the top 6

Got a feeling they won't be in top 6 end of next season !!

It's do-able Imo.

Spurs could collapse at Wembley & Liverpool don't have the squad depth to compete in the CL & PL.

Spurs won't fair well at Wembley and some players of other clubs who's never played at Wembley will be upping their games bit like the old saying "their cup final!"
