did they say how many it would add or when it will be started/finished?

The chap said around 40k and they will 100% be leaving the stand open while construction happens because the club can't afford to close any of it for construction

And where were all these people wanting tickets when we were rotting in the Championship? Nowhere to be seen. I'd be looking for a few years of European football and more success before expanding, to ensure we can attract fans which will stay even if times do turn bad.

Might sound a little negative/defeatist but realistically a club of our size are always relegation candidates, Premier League trophy in the cabinet or not. We proved that last season.

You mean the 20/22k average?

Would you care to explain where the 8/10k came from that did not attend div2 matches in the 80's?

But hey great idea let's stagnate with the same 30k every game and not give some generations the chance to see our great club. Then over time watch the go to cov the sheep the trees and even the cobblers. Then as the 30k die move away or just stop going never get replaced.

Perhaps we should have been short sighted and just built a 22k ground in the first place. Then the new 10k of fans could never have attended.

So that means they can start building ASAP when everything is sorted rather than wait for pre season I presume?

Great post, it's not about the past but the future.

Bottom line is the stadium isn't big enough to accommodate all those who want to go. It's ridiculous to turn wannabee season ticket holders away year after year and stop the next generation of Leicester supporters attending.

I also think we have a great chance to spring ourselves to compete with Everton, West Ham, Newcastle sized clubs due to our newfound popularity and being the only PL club in the region. We could extend our sphere of influence to Lincolnshire, Cambs, Northants and Warks.

Considering the cost of extending and that cost relative to our income it would be borderline gross incompetence not to take this opportunity. I'm not quite sure what conditions some people need to think expansion would be a good idea? There really isn't a relevant argument to be against it in my mind.

The only established Premiership teams are:

Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

Every other bugger has been relegated.

Exactly this.

Crazy as it sounds, Spurs and Everton could be a 2/3 bad consecutive managerial appointments away from relegation. Probably would have included Newcastle and Villa as established premier league clubs until about 5 years ago.

Surely construction would need to start pretty much now for it to be ready for 2018-19 if it's a whole new stand? Sounds like the best way of doing it though and if it's anything like Anfield's then fair play.

Anyone against expanding the stadium needs to give their head a  shake. Me and thousands of others are unable to get tickets to see our team play.

I guess some people think we should keep freezing people out of coming to games until we get relegated instead of actually trying to grow as a club.

Still nothing in the planning applications

I should imagine you're talking 6 to 9 months after any application is submitted before getting full approval.

At least 6/9 months if not 18/24 more like it. Not like extending your kitchen. 10k extensions going to have a huge impact on that area on match days.

I was trying to be optimistic and taking into account that Soulsby is a ST holder, not that he can legally interfere in any decision but ........;)

I really don't get the line of argument that we should aspire to compete with Everton, West Ham and Newcastle.

Compete how? They've won **** all.

We should expand the ground to get a bigger ground. If you're expanding the ground for any other reason you're deluding yourself.

This speculation just goes on and on. If the Stadium tour guides are now openly telling people that it will happen then it isn't business confidential.

Surely it's not too much to expect the club to tell us what's going on ??

Maybe they're aware that there's likely to be some fierce local opposition and they don't want to give them a head start before they're fully prepared and committed. I guess also they'll have more than one option and variants within them to counteract any specific rejections.

If winning the fvcking thing doesn't make you established then I don't know what does quite frankly.

The fact we ended up in the relegation zone 3/4 of the way into the season says we aren't yet. You need several years of comfortable mid table finishes to be "established" IMO.

I'd very much hope discussions are ongoing already, so that when it's submitted we know we've ticked all the boxes with the council.

I wasn't davieG, I'm not getting at anyone in particular but I just find it frustrating that people can't see THIS is the time to expand. We have literally never ever in our history been in this position generally speaking and while the title win isn't a distant memory we need to strike while iron is still hot

I'm afraid the I'm all right Jack attitude in life has never been more prevalent well not in.my lifetime. That's not to say people don't have genuine concerns about this.

If we are to expand we could still suffer relegations and will have empty seats in the Championship. I can see the concerns on that front. Hopefully getting more people into the ground will mean more keep going even if struggles occur.

Compete financially.

Just because we've won a PL title and two League Cups since any of those clubs won anything doesn't mean we'll be the most likely to win something next.

Money comes and goes mainly on wages and transfer fees. Clubs usually live close to the edge whatever their income. It would be a horrible shame for us to never try to progress and eventually get relegated in several years time and then watch a Forest or Derby get in our position and build their grounds to 40,000+ and dominate East Midlands football whilst we rue what might have been. We'd be thinking if only we were ambitious and not just happy to make up the numbers as little old Leicester with our packed out 32,000 ground.

Relegation for us is inevitable, it's a case of when not if. I want the club to build a legacy and expand the support so we're far better equipped to come back next time. Lets not accept we're no better than West Brom, Stoke, etc.
