Sky 1 to show Jamie Vardy documentary as he searches for next non-league star

Sky 1 will broadcast a fly-on-the-wall documentary following Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, as he searches for the next big star from non-league football.

Starting on Saturday, September 16, the new series will take a look behind the doors of Jamie Vardy's V9 Academy.

The show will follow Vardy as he seeks to discover new talent from non-league football and help future footballers realise their professional dreams, by providing them with a unique insight into what it takes to play at the top level of the game.

With unprecedented access, the series provides a glimpse into the lives of talented amateur players who have been shortlisted to attend the V9 Academy, in front of scouts from around the world, in a bid to become 'The Next Jamie Vardy'.

The series will also reflect back on Vardy's time playing in non-league football, where he began his career with Stockbridge Park Steels in 2007, before helping Leicester City to a fairy tale Premier League title.

Jamie Vardy rose himself from the non-league game

The six-part docu-series will also be broadcast on Sky Sports' new dedicated Premier League channel in September.

Vardy himself said: "There's massive talent out there in non-league football and I hope this documentary has demonstrated that, by putting the spotlight on players trying to find a way to the top. I'm now hopeful that some of the clubs, scouts and players that were sceptical about what John (co-founder of V9) and I set out to do are won over.

"There are many more hidden gems to be found outside the league and V9 will do all it can to help players realise their ultimate dream of playing professional football for club and country."

Don't miss the six-part documentary as Jamie Vardy searches for a non-league star, starting on Sky1 on Saturday, September 16

Sounds like it could be fun. But why has he used man c academy and not ours ?

The conspiracy theory fans are going to have him signed for them before the window shuts lol

Seems like Vardy's academy is helping - these players have already found a new club thanks to his enterprise:

Brandon Scott (Bristol Rovers)

Alex Penny (Peterborough)

Lamar Reynolds (Newport)

Blair Turgott & Danny Newton (both Stevenage)

Sod this whens the movie coming out?!

The last press release I can find was back in Feb where the producers said the film would still go ahead despite us getting rid of CR - the film will be called Fearless.

There's absolutely no other information about it though which seems odd.

I know he's got more than a few years of football left in him yet :fc:but it would be great to see Vards transition to TV work when he's done. He'd be such a refreshing personality in the punditry scene with completely unique insight and the kind of credibility the majority of the rest of the mob can only dream of.

Doubt he will though. More likely to focus on his youth development work.

He was probably advised that it would be better to do it away from us. Make it more personal to him than the club who signed him. Otherwise it could end up being more about Leicester City than Vardy and bad for ratings from supporters of other club. As no doubt a lot will be about us anyway.

Don't see anything wrong with that as he has repaid the faith shown in him by us many times over. And he's the only player I can think of that has actually turned down a top 4 club at the time to stay with us.

I'm sure you are right that, that won't stop the conspiracy theories though :)

Hmmm I absolutely love Vardy but even with those specs on, not sure he would be the best pundit. Bit rough around the edges is our Vardy. And would say obviously a lot..... Obviously.

Then again couldn't be much worse than some of the other pundits.

When he does retire and hopefully not for a long time yet. Would be great to keep him in a Kevin Phillips type finishing coach role. Our around the academy. He will probably make a good coach and maybe one day a manager. As he would/should inspire a lot of players.

Can't be sure but I reckon

A) Because it's absolutely ****ing incredible

B) They rent it out quite often... so it's so big that their team can train there as well as many others, unlike ours.

Enjoyed it, apart from the voiceover guy sounding like he was struggling to push one out on the loo. Interesting insight into behind the scenes goings on at LCFC.

Worth a watch.

Agree, decent program and plenty for us Leicester fans in it. Kammy needs to be muted though.
