Should Chilwell get more game time?

I think both our full backs are exposed by the way the team is set up, frankly. I know it's a preposterous thing to suggest, but imagine Huth or Morgan trying to play full back for us...

That's preposterous Peaky ! ...     :o

Simpson is a smaller, more agile centerback playing wide, if you like. He adds about as much as either Huth or Morgan in an attacking sense. He's our 'insurance policy'.

But back to your point and topic, it highlights again how questionable it is to give Chilwell the nod ahead of Fuchs at left back.

What would we gain?

On the one hand, some more possession coming out the back, another attacker on the field. But if we like, we can field Vardy/slim, Iheanacho, Silva, Mahrez, and Gray, all five at once. They all give us more that Chilwell's poor defense at a primarily defensive position. Now, if we went to a 3-5-2, sure, he could play as a wing-back, but at this point, I am struggling to see why we would ever do that if we had to play Chilwell based upon what we've seen.

Young man needs a loan someplace. He needs to focus on his defense over all else for a stretch. Until then, he'll struggle to find a place at this club.

I think he's young and will make mistakes, but that will make him better, could be our LB for years.

Short term gamble for a long term gain!

Definitely this. If we look safe back end of the season think he needs a run of games

You never look safe at the end of a season though-you look vulnerable, or in touch with Europe, or in with a shot of the title... chuck him in early, give him the space between international breaks and see what he can grow into. And if the knee jerkers could keep it in their pants for a few games before they offer to drive him to West Brom, that would be great...

Similar to Gray.. I would be trusting him to come on from the bench earlier and also to start more games for us.

They are both good enough to be involved in some kind of rotation, where we see Fuchs and Albrighton/Mahrez sacrificing some game time.

I think it would benefit Fuchs especially, due to his age and keeping him fresh.

We have a squad full of talent now, and I hope Shakey has the courage and confidence to change the line-up and utilise the whole squad.

Personally I think he is a good player and he needs more game time, as much as we all love Fuchs he isn't going to last a lot longer. He would be a great wing back, but who would be our 3 centre halves? Maguire, Dragovic and Amartey?

Chilwell has quietly got on with his job, while there have been mutterings from Gray or his camp about more game time. Chilwell appears to appreciate the experience gained from playing alongside experienced players such as Fuchs. I am sure Shakey will use both more this season, they may have to be patient until the early run of tough games is past.

I think he'll probably be waiting until the busy Christmas schedule before getting any starts, then he'll be eased in finishing the season as the more regular left back.

at least once a season I read on forums Leicester fans bemoaning the fact we don't produce players like Southampton do, we now have at least 2 young players good enough to play and all people say now is "we can't risk playing them they don't have the experience" or "they need a loan somewhere" Southampton produce players because when they are good enough THEY PLAY THEM.

So Mr Shakespeare grow some balls and have some faith in the future of the football club and play them, manage out of fear you are doomed to fail.

The frustrating thing  is being 2-0 up against Brighton in control of the game and we don't even bring Chilwell on, we use two subs and one is bringing on Gray in the 93rd minute. So frustrating. Shakey is reminding of Pearson in his substitutions and not in a good way, when you are controlling the game you can rest players, give others more game time, use the whole effing squad.

Against Arsenal I can see why it mightn't have been the right time to bring on Chilwell, but I would have brought him on for Mahrez switched Albrighton to the right, Chilwell Fuchs secure the left, Albrighton Simpson on the right, we look a lot more solid. Against United fair enough, don't put him on.

I like Benny chilwell going forward but defensively he's still far too laid back. He lacks urgency and doesn't seem to get annoyed when he gets beaten by a winger. He doesn't strike me as a tough tackler and I think he needs to add a bit of this steel to his game to really challenge Fuchs who is a better defender and not too shoddy going forward too.

he isn't going to add steel to his game playing against kids for the U23s every so often he needs to play against men, also being a tough tackler is overrated, if anything its a detriment as you jut attract needless yellow cards, you only need to be effective and from what I have seen he is effective at tackling

Not so effective second half against Sheffield Utd, incidentally playing against 'men.' He needs to do more than dangle a leg at times that's all I'm saying.
