The Floyd Posted 3 September 2017 Posted 3 September 2017 Glad I'm not alone in thinking Fuchs is vastly overrated, though I am surprised that his horrific inability to defend one on one goes largely unnoticed. Fuchs' only real offensive attribute is his cross, which Albrighton already offers, so I'm not sure why we don't play a fast, direct and growing Chilwell.
HighPeakFox Posted 3 September 2017 Posted 3 September 2017 Slightly surprised by Fuchs getting panned by some, he's nowhere near as bad as some of you are making out.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 3 September 2017 Posted 3 September 2017 He will get his chance just like Gray, it's just if they take their chance and impress in training too. I think Chilwell will get more chance with us only having 3 wingers too.

sdb Posted 3 September 2017 Posted 3 September 2017 I hope we go 352 soon and he gets a bit more time on the left, given the intensity of the role. It's important he doesn't go all Gray on us.
ZeGuy Posted 3 September 2017 Posted 3 September 2017 I think we'll play more often in 3-4-3/3-5-2 this season and he'll have his game time. Too good to rot on the bench but still not enough to be a starter as LB.

Saying that he wants to be playing more. Im of the opinion that Gray and Chilwell should be given more game time this year. Fuchs isn't getting any younger and its highly probable Mahrez will leave next summer, therefore it makes sense in my mind to be giving these players game time and allow them to make mistakes while we still have top players to fall back on if we need to score a goal or tighten up at the back with 20 minutes to go. Young players aren't going to improve without game time and we need to start putting some faith in them like other teams do with their own younger prospects, looking at Tottenham with Kane, Alli etc. And Everton who played against Man City with Holgate, Calvert-Lewis and Davies all starting. What are people's thoughts? You'll see yourself, from posts after you opening this topic, fans are scared of city taking a gamble on good young, Players, who are just on v that brink of success...Its really a game of opinions. My opinion is YOU do take this type of risk, you show young talent confidence, one should have city giving Chilly and Gray more early season PL gametime. Waiting for this or that, or making up silly excuses is actually illogical. Example ..take our season, last season the so called set and older experienced players, seen us being taken to the cleaners with a few high c score losses, so in this level of football the risk against,Knowledge and experience gained and potential being realised, or put on hold, from all involved is invaluable. Plus it could just mean they prove they can make that big leap, not from game 1 but over 3-5 games, Covering probably a 12 game run of the team. Some players cant express themselves regularly in these Midweek training/practice days, they need that extra full stadium moments, to find themselves.... Thats why I would have given Krammy and Kapu more games... This Chelsea game, normally I wouldnt of pushed either Chilly or Gray in...but now after certain events, I would say....Mahrez starts but from the bench, Gray comes in as the starter instead. Chilly not yet, because we might be seeing some new buys being given their starts. Chills I would start with the 2 liverpool games I am more the positive and risk taker type..we have invested so if game fit, then... Schmeichel Simpson Maguire Drago Fuchs Iberro James..................Ndidi Gray Vardy Nacho Silva, Mahrez, Slimani, Huth, Albrighton, Jakupovic, King. Imo a few fans have lost that positive approach and become too careful

Me too, I agree. Though he does get skinned 1 v 1 more than he should. Simpson has a better positional sense than Fuchs and gets skinned less, and he has Mahrez in front him while Fuchs got Albrighton. Fuchs is still preferable to Chilwell.
Jimmy Posted 3 September 2017 Posted 3 September 2017 it takes balls and belief to put faith in young players no matter how good they are there will always be an excuse to not play them, so far Shakespeare has shown little so tay he will change that now, even at the end of last season he still wouldn't play Gray and only played Chilwell as it avoided playing another young player in Amartey at CB
Countryfox Posted 3 September 2017 Posted 3 September 2017 Fuchs slowly on a downhill path and Chilwell brilliant at going forward but not so strong defensively ... another conundrum for our new manager .... interesting times ahead.

Micky Posted 3 September 2017 Posted 3 September 2017 Fuchs was the best left back in the league in the title winning season. He is still top class.

Sammy Posted 3 September 2017 Posted 3 September 2017 He might need a while to recover from this before starting too many games

More a case (in my opinion anyway) that Fuchs isn't as great as he's made out to be, as opposed to saying he's turd.
surrifox Posted 4 September 2017 Posted 4 September 2017 In quite a few years watching City I can't remember many if any better players in that position

Shakey doesn't trust him so much defensively at the moment as we witnessed late on against sheff u. I think he suffers a bit of Liamooreitis whereby he drops a bit too deep in the final third (as does amartey at centre half).

We seem to concede a lot down that left and Fuchs gets beaten a lot. During our title winning season he was superb but I've lost confidence since then. Simpson's positioning and awareness is so much better.

Simpson carries just as much blame for goals conceded this season. As soon as Simpson steps out of the back line, things tend to go wrong. His lack of ability on the ball means he doesn't contribute to our attack a great deal either, so his usefulness is limited to being pinned in that right back spot and act as a wide centerback.

Not talking about goals conceded, just generally I think Simpson is a more solid full back,

shen Posted 4 September 2017 Posted 4 September 2017 Just now, Fox92 said: Not talking about goals conceded, just generally I think Simpson is a more solid full back, I generally agree that he is alert and is rarely passed when wingers are in the final third. He clears a good few balls for the left to the back post. I do think that Fuchs is better at recovering when he's caught up the field and he's stronger in the air. In summary, I don't think the difference between them is that great. Fuchs just adds more to attack than Simpson does.
HighPeakFox Posted 4 September 2017 Posted 4 September 2017 I think both our full backs are exposed by the way the team is set up, frankly. I know it's a preposterous thing to suggest, but imagine Huth or Morgan trying to play full back for us...
