The further away he got from O'Neill's team the worse we got and he had no concept of value for money. I remember going to an evening with Dave Basset and he said Taylor had given loads of wage rises out from the youth team to the first team and we were paying out more than Tottenham.

bpfox Posted 17 December 2017 Author Posted 17 December 2017 I THINK AFTER TODAY'S EFFORT WE DO NEED TO HAVE 4 CLASS MIDFIELDERS, both midfielders looked tired and if we are to competed for a top 6 spot we need to be able to rota players in the middle of the park. 2

With Silva eligible to play after the Huddersfield match three first team central midfielders is fine. We'll be playing once a week more times than not and Silva, Ndidi and Iborra competing for two midfield spots more often than not is plenty. We also have King and James to bolster the ranks and Choudhury needs room to develop if Puel wants to actively promote the better players in the U23's. Amartey I suspect is being lined up as a right back if Appelton's comments are to be believed but he can also fill in in central midfield if need be. If we get Europa League football next season then maybe another central midfielder will be looked at but spending a lot of money on another central midfielder probably causes more problems than it solves in January. 1
dooflip Posted 17 December 2017 Posted 17 December 2017 I’d rather the money be spent elsewhere. full backs are a must for me, particularly right back. but I’d be tempted to bring in a top class left back and send chilwell out on loan - although I know puel won’t do this. with silva coming in I think our midfield is fairly solid, especially with a two man midfield.

Under Puel he does play every week. Why would we loan out players who are in our first team? What kind of message does it send out to Chilwell and other younger players that we want to loan them out when they're that good just to bring in more established players? Who do you suggest we buy who is this brilliant left back who is so much better than Chilwell? 1

Why send Chilwell out on loan,??? Hes playing well enough, its some fans who need to give him space and show patience. Going on yesterday, we should loan out all our players...

Or Van Dijk (I know hes more CB, but he has praised him heavily recently in an interview) We're not going to get Van Dijk. IMO the answer to the question is yes. We have absolutely zero creativity in the centre of the pitch. Maybe Silva can provide it I don't know but what we have at the moment isn't going to creatmany goals. Problem is players of thsi ilk don't come cheap. Can't see why on earth we would want Mendy back. He's not good enough and really doesn't want to be here. 1
Wymsey Posted 22 December 2017 Posted 22 December 2017 A few PL sides are apparently interested in Athletico Madrids' Gaitan.. Perhaps would be a better attacking midfielder than King?

I'd rather bring in some youth.
Guest Posted 26 December 2017 Posted 26 December 2017 With nzonzi being a long term target and seemingly leaving Seville I'd love him here. Would give us a problem with 4 quality midfielders but that's the sort of problem I'd like. He'd be our best player tbh.
Spiritwalker Posted 26 December 2017 Posted 26 December 2017 I'm not one for over use of capitals but, YES
Gerard Posted 26 December 2017 Posted 26 December 2017 Once Silva can be registered next week then we'll have 16 league games and the FA Cup matches left this season. We certainly don't need another midfielder with Silva, Ndidi and Iborra fighting for two places and King, James and Choudhury to support them. With us being 10pts above the relegation zone lets just see how our central midfield sorts itself out in the next six months before reassessing in the summer. 1
foxes21 Posted 26 December 2017 Posted 26 December 2017 We should sign Doucoure in the summer. His ability to get up and down the pitch is Kante esque.
bpfox Posted 27 December 2017 Author Posted 27 December 2017 after todays effort from our midfield we need 3 new players, really we have been shit over the last month.

King and James aren't good enough support for a team hoping to be top half let alone top 7. We should buy if there's quality available.

With only 16 PL games left and the FA Cup matches after Jan 1st then we could do without bulking out our squad with a 4th central midfielder who is of similar quality to the first choice three and no doubt expensive. If we're to buy again then we need to sell James or King. I think Puel will keep his tinder dry and assess James and Silva over the coming months before making decisions in the summer when it is easier to get players. We have no need to panic in January as relegation looks unlikely and a top four spot even less so.
