The mention of @Zingari in another thread brought up an old question of mine... Do you have a plan for your "social media" if you suddenly cease to be?

In the long ago dark days fo the internet, when yahoo chat rooms were a thing, i had a friend who we agreed would contact my chatroom "friends" and let them know, these days i dont have a plan, so my accounts will just go quiet.... you can rest assured, if i leave and im not dead... i will throw the biggest dummy spit and slam the door on my way out!

Do you have a plan for closing accounts..letting people know etc??

I like to go like Zingari. No leaving in a huff , no big announcement, just stop posting. That's the way to go.

Despite only being 26 I have at least 3/4 friends on social media who are no longer with us, one of whom was a really close friend and the reason I got into doing charity runs etc, and I can never decide if it's quite a nice and fitting way to be remembered and an opportunity for friends and family alike to look back, or if it's just a little creepy.

I think Instagram, for example, can be quite a lovely tribute in many ways; an almost pictured diary of memories that is nice to look back on from time to time. I'm not so sure that Facebook and it's occasional passive aggressive undertones has the same feel though.

I've got enough foxestalkers on my Facebook that if I pop it I'm sure you'll find out about it.

Couldn't give much of a **** though, if I'm honest. If I'm dead, I'm dead, I don't really care who knows or doesn't.

There's a handful of you lot I like and I hope it's mutual but the idea of the people that clearly think I'm a tosser using my death to write mushy crap about how "we didn't see eye to eye but he was a valued poster" or some crap just to get rep points, kinda makes my skin crawl.

If I top myself over crimbo or get smashed by a bus in the new year, @Kitchandro@Thracian@GaelicFox@Col city fan@Father Tedyou boys have my full permission, even my encouragement, to say "thank ****, we thought that cvnt would never go."

My ghost would be honoured by your honesty.

I am a buddhist I  believe  in reincarnation, so I can cancel mine, when I return.

My biggest worry is if I come back has a fly, some Tw@t will flatten me with his rolled up paper,

before I can login....

Surely karma would mean that you'd then be reincarnated as an escaped circus lion and would eat the twat with the rolled-up paper?

You'd still struggle to log in, mind....

If I pop my clogs any time soon, I'd expect my virtual ghost to haunt FT largely unnoticed.

Then, in 100 years time someone would perceive the brilliance of my wit and publish a compilation of my posts.

I'd expect them to use the title "The unrecognised genius of Alf Bentley".

Nah! I'm with @Finnegan on this. If you're dead, you no longer exist so cannot appreciate what, if anything, people think of you, so why bother about it? Concentrate on enjoying the brief, glorious joke of existence.

I now have 4 Facebook "friends" who are dead: an uncle, an aunt, an American cousin I never met and my oldest friend - and I rather like having them there.

I do write stuff and compile family history, and like the idea of people reading those words in 100 years time, but would be quite happy if they read them and didn't know who the hell I was.

I am slightly bothered as to who would organise my funeral now, if my bloated corpse were to be found stinking out the neighbourhood any time soon.

Marriage gone, parents gone, daughter still at school, brother in London & not that close, good friends elsewhere but not in Leicester.... I presume my brother and my ex would get their heads together.

Even with my 100% conviction that there is no after-life, I've enough of an ego that I don't like the thought of friends only finding out I've gone after 5 years, or of some willy puller organising a funeral with hymns, cheesy poems and Phil Collins songs...

Reminds me of something, a guy I used to go to school with died skiing when he was 20. I got on with him quite well but he turned some people the wrong way.

Anyway, a day or two before his funeral I bumped into a girl we when to school with and asked if she heard the news about him. She just replied 'yeah I did, didnt like the fvcker anyway'. Might have been a bit harsh but had a lot more respect for her not pretending she really liked him just because he died and I think the deceased guy would probably have thought the same thing too funnily enough.

Definitely. I've said elsewhere, I hate fake grief.

Not unless someone else has heard that.

I exchanged PMs with him shortly after he stopped posting. He said that he'd just decided to stop banging his head against the wall on here and to concentrate on other real-life stuff.

Don't think he's posted since then, but he did come on to view the forum a couple of months later.

That was all about 3 years ago, though.

Would be good to hear from you again, @Zingari, but if not....hope you're enjoying real life!
