Agree with the coastline and most of the rest of post, though sport obsession can get towards overkill at times.

Freedom and liberty is difficult to quantify but I agree we are freer to live the way we want in the UK than most places, although maybe not in all aspects of life. Whether we are more democratic than other nations is debatable.

Also, the weather is 'a bit' shit lol

Yeah I guess so. I suppose our democratic system is 'fair' to an extent even if the process might not be right. I don't feel like anything is rigged or bent I suppose like some countries.

Excuse me!!!   Our weather is not shit.!

Its our weather..Its the only country where God and the Angels can freely take a piss.

What do you think, gives us our green and pleasant Land, that fills the likes of the lake district and

moreover Cropston resevoir..The fog gives us great Sherlock homes stories, the envy of the world

When my German aquaintences get cocky, I tell them we English get the Deckchairs out when it rains,

Wear T-shirts in November-April, cloth caps and head handkerchiefs  in the summer.

We told generation of our children, to learn but not cook well for others, then we will get the best

of all foreign restaurants, who will then cook for us..

Mind you the English businessmen misunderstood that power of reasoning, and became not wise but so

unimaginitive, that we let Foreign businesses to take over.

Though I do tell these so called clever Germans, We won the World cup once, proved we know how it works,

So dont feel the need, to win the peace every 4 years. But when it matters we are winning 2-0 (1918 +1945).

Thats why we dont let them play cricket, put a bloody bat and hard ball in their hands, they'll invade their neighbours

just because they'll never understand the bloody  rules.

We have the best goverment, because they remind us,with every passing election one needs a bloody good sense of Humour.

Which in itself Created  the major government seat..The local pub, where all things are democratically discussed, so good

that after a pint or 2, we feel the world is now a better place...

The French might have their croisannts and baguettes, but our treacle, tarts, Yorkshirepuddings, and ginger cakes are the

real Point de Resistance, Indians brought their great curry dishes with them, but it took an English twist, that now the

Civilised western world loves Chicken tikka massala.

We are the only country to have a revolution, which the commoner won, then gave the crown back,to the stuarts,

that lead through all the historical drama over the centuries, that we now have a German Queen..

We Claim to be Proud Anglo-Saxon, with a twist of Norman (my desent) , then have the bloody

cheek to say foreigners are not welcome...

We give our American colonies and friends, their independence, they shoot themselves up, then have the audacity

to put a Mr Fart  ( sorry Trump)    into the presidents office.

You couldnt make it up...

But in the end, our great Traditional Sense of humour, gives us the great strength of not really giving a shit..

Even so we still have strange folk who believe in being proud of who you are, instead of what you do.!!:D

I like how you can travel to anywhere within the country within a day.

Good selection of pubs and fine dining restaurants.

I dislike the fact that people don’t appreciate what we have and litter/take advantage/sponge off the state etc.

Sporting culture

Music culture

Proliference of diverse youth cultures

British comedy (except Irish which is crap)

Relatively effective justice system

Relatively effective police/security

The fact that having a British passport, british education and British pounds makes leaving the country both short and long term relatively easy

The positive attitude of most people from Gen Y and younger towards inclusivity

The world class city of London

Parts of the countryside and coastline is just about nice

The concept of the NHS

The fact that most of us do try to look after our poor and underprivileged

Dislike

Having the worst transport infrastructure in the developed world

A population too submissive and docile to stand up for things like workers rights and wages

Wages in general under the present government

Minging attitudes towards anything or anyone remotely different from large sections of old people and even some of the more closed minded young people

Baby boomers and their sense of entitlement and wisdom despite having lived through a time of unprecedented comfort and prosperity

How easily people are divided/the class system

Awful weather

Very few really beautiful places/absence of any exceptional geography

Lack of colour and vibrancy in our day to day culture

It's often just a bit dull here compared to other places

UK, more specifically England.

Like:

Our history - not all great but we have centuries of rich and varied history.

Landsapes - Rolling countryside and places like Bradgate are fantastic.

Humour - Nowhere does piss taking quite like we do.

Sport - Personally I'm only really arsed about football and maybe cricket but the depth and breadth of sport in the UK is unparalleled.

Music - A huge proportion of the most influential bands, groups, artists, singers or whatever are British.

Accents - For a comparatively small place the variation in our accents is brilliant and I'm certain it's been voted the 'sexiest' in the world (Probably only received pronunciation though haha).

Universal healthcare - The US is generally more backwards than us, healthcare being one example.

Strong HDI with a reasonable cost of living.

It's safe - crime rates are fine but we don't have the threat of expansionist neighbours, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes/cyclones, forest fires, or other mental natural disasters besides occasional flooding.

Fought tyranny on the continent, twice.

Industrial revolution.

Great scientists and advances to science.

British food is unfairly maligned, some of it is great.

Pub culture

Union flag is great (St. George's isn't)

Increasingly atheist/agnostic

Dislike:

History of brutal imperialism

Transport infrastructure

Modern orange brick copy and paste housing estates

Housing costs

Post war buildings

Two party system

Culture of anti-intellectualism (not sure if it's the same in the rest of Western Europe

London centric

Chavs

Obesity rate

National anthem

Weather isn't great but I don't really mind the rain.

Is Grime Music actually a serious genre? I heard some once and just presumed it was taking the piss out of something.
