Grow up and get behind Riyad, or: stop listening to the press and wait and see how he reacts on the pitch

Exactly.

1) Goal scorers/creators cost more than defenders.

2) Players cost more in January than in summer as the disruption to the selling club is much greater.

3) Players cost more in the last 2 days of the January window, as the disruption is even greater - zero chance of replacing a valuable player.

4) Experience matters. Laporte is uncapped &has ZERO experience of PL football, whereas Mahrez has 3.5 years experience, has been player of the year, title winner - and this season is again among the top players for goals and assists.

@MahrezFan and his mates think it fair for Man City to pay less for someone proven to be one of the top creative players in the PL, on the last day of the Jan window, than they did for an unproven defender a few days earlier?!?

Not only is MahrezFan not a Leicester City fan, he/she clearly isn't even a Mahrez fan to have such a low opinion of both our club and Mahrez himself!

Laporte being uncapped says more about Didier Deschamps being a moron who picked ahead of bums like Rami, Sakho etc.

Anyone who watched him in LaLiga, knows that Laporte is among the best players there.

Btw, I really don't know why people still haning on the BS about  'Premier League proven'.

Was N'Golo Kanté a player with EPL-experience when the guy ended up Leicester's POTY during 2015-16 season?

Never mind that the likes of Pogba, KDB, Torres, Özil, Aguero, Toure, Hazard had also ZERO experience of EPL football and they instantly light up the Prem.

Damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t.

Whilst Tanner's statement is a bit over the top, Mahrez has dug his own hole here. If he had been back in training a week ago, there would have been no issue. This is all down to his petulant behaviour.

You may well be correct about Laporte. I rarely see La Liga so cannot comment.

To clarify: I'm not making a chauvinistic point about the PL or suggesting that it is better than La Liga. I'm only saying that it is a different style of play that doesn't suit every player.

It is faster, more physical, and less technical and tactical to some extent. Some players from foreign leagues adapt very well (e.g. Kante), others don't (e.g. Luis Hernandez, a successful player in La Liga, but not at LCFC).

There is a risk that a player (who may be outstandingly good in other leagues of equal value) will not adapt to the PL style....whereas we know Mahrez can play well in PL football as he's already done so for several years.

The Mirror article isn’t really new news, he is just putting out this side of the story.

£50m in summer in time to replace him is not the same as £50m in late Jan.  Also prices have gone even more mental and are especially so in Jan.

I love this talk of remediation and asking to be ‘guaranteed he can go in the summer’ - yes you can go for the right price.

If he felt so strongly about a release clause his agent should have put one in (even a massive one).  18 months ago he probably would have got one at £60m or so

He has been waiting for one and half year, so instant is a bit harsh. He tried to be on his best behavior all this time, I guess now he is trying something else. There is no villain here both parties are trying to do what they think is the best for them.

Of course he's the "villain" here. He broke his contract by not turning up to training or 2 important PL matches.

Rightly so. He didn't turn up to training or to 2 important matches. Anyone would think he deserved a pat on the back for what he has done. Disrespectful to the fans and disgusting in general.

The only positive is that he seems to have got over his depression.

Funnily enough, I reckon Hernandez would be a decent player for us now.

Any songs for him?   How about    "Riyad Mahrez, your agent is shit"

Take out those two words and I think you are on to a winner ! ...   :)

(Could even add a big   'ahhhhhhhhhh !! '   at the end to make it more Lesta ! )

Finally ! he made a good decision.
He acted like a kid in this story, the mistake is human but it must be sanctioned.
He must not be in the group tomorrow, players have prepared for this game and must have passed well before him, a contract is a contract and the leaders have protected their interest, that's the logic of things ...
He must be twice as hard as his teammates in training so that the fans forgive him his mistake, he must not return to the group for me, a stay of 2-3 weeks in reserve.

Yes, that may not be the best example as we played him out of position at right-back too much (still not sure he'd ever have been a PL right back). He was arguably better suited to being a centre back who was comfortable in possession.

I avoided mentioning Slimani for the same reason - a top player in Portugal and looks capable of succeeding in PL, but didn't suit our style. I fully expect him to do well at Newcastle.

Anyway, there are plenty of players who have been successful in other major leagues but not in PL: Mhikitarian? Falcao? Memphis Depay? Di Maria? Joselu? Soldado?

Of course, we could also produce a list of foreign arrivals who were a great success.....my only point is that there's an additional risk of non-adaptation.

Ee heck. Some people seem determined to be as c**ty in manner as Riyad has been.

Puel will manage the situation. I'd be astonished if he includes an unfit (in mind and body) Mahrez tomorrow. I expect all other matters to have been privately sorted out.

Get the best out of him and resolve it once and for all in the summer. The one advantage to selling him is that we won't have to fret about it again, since he can only be sold once. (Stating the obvious I know)
