Starting the night with a bottle of Robinson's Old Tom to get me going pre-Chinese.

Bought by my father-in-law as a reminder of when he and his mate got me so pissed on it at a northern pub's Christmas darts night that I struggled to hit a second board. Mad gear that apparently most Lancashire boozers do their own version of at this time of year.

You know anything northern with Old in the name is going to be bad news

Got a range of ales brewed in drystone walls with incomprehensible slang names to work through tonight. Quite thoughtful from him as it's stuff you rarely see outside the North-West.

Not sure whether to go for the Riggwelter or Sneck Lifter next...

A can of Merula Nitro Stout from Hook Norton Brewery. Had a few pints of nitro stout when out and about but this was the first time from a can.

Nice and smooth pint when ice cold but I let it get to room temperature and it wasn’t at its best.

My first mistake was pouring it like a Guinness when you really need to throw it into the glass to get a head on it. Had to re-pour at speed into another glass, the head appeared but didn’t hang around long. Does say pour fast drink slowly on the can.

Got another can to drink but I think it’s one that is better on tap.

I'm thinking of driving over to The Offie today to have a look and get some beers. Heard good things. Has anyone been themselves to recommend/review?

Yeah the selection is very good.

I know it’s been discussed on here before, but I do find the Guinness hype annoying. We’re going to see Heineken launch its Murphy’s and Beamish brands through all the pubcos and chains in 2026 as they try and feed into the Diageo marketing con

Few in Rugby for a mate's birthday yesterday.

The Merchants' Inn would be a top tier boozer if it wasn't so insistent on showing rugby union on all of its screens instead of football. It was invented over the road, WE GET IT.

Now I have stopped ticking, enjoying having my favourites again and again. A pint of Braybrooke Black Lager which is the best of its kind I’ve ever had, in the two tailed lion.

A pint of wipeout on cask which I’d normally had on Keg, in the Blue Boar.
Few pints in the Kings Head, one was Ghost Ship by Adnams.

I’ve heard it’s good in there. Tbh I find prem football so dull these days I’d rather watch rugby than Man U or liverpool

Massively overindulging and I’d become boring(feedback from friends and family)! I’d go somewhere with friends or partner, and I’d have to get the entire menu(halves and thirds) of what I’d not ticked! In the end I wasn’t enjoying that way of drinking, so deleting account was only way to stop it. You use it a much more economical and rational way.

Have signed up for an ultra marathon in July, so training will hopefully replicate the buzz of getting a tick 🤣

Yeah, a town that's worth a visit. In fairness, at least the volume on the rugger's kept down.

It's basically John Smiths with excellent marketing. I think it would be fascinating to work in beer marketing. For mainstream beer the glass and logo are more important than the actual beer.

I think the most toe curling statement is when people say '' the Guinness is good in here'' or ''kept well here'' I don't think there is a material difference with Guinness anywhere, not one that you can notice to turn you off drinking a pint of it, unless it's in a can of course, but that's different.
