Remember when he got rinsed by Gary Taylor-Fletcher at QPR away when we went up? Good times.

Could go either way, will be really good or really bad. He might even start off really well then completely collapse.

I reckon he’ll start badly and then go really well.

I’m surprised and disappointed that such a well run, family club like Fleetwood would choose this thug to be their manager.

I dont really get his appointment.

Sends out a really poor message to the players. Are they going to be disciplined and professional in matches, when instructed to do so by a man who was not in the least bit disciplined and professional?

Also, he has spent most of his career (a poor career nonetheless) but at the top of the game. Does he resonate with players from a lower level and understand how to get the best from them......or anyone for that matter?

And the intelligent part....hes not intelligent. He tries to give the impression he is intelligent, but he is just deliberately controversial and tries to look intelligent to hide the fact he is a complete thug.

Compared to most players he's more switched on but he's still a bit mental ain't he? I quite like him on 5 live but he's never struck me as manager material

I actually don't agree. Barton plays on the thick footballer stereotype but it's an absolute myth that all footballers are thick. How many footballers, seriously, do you actually know nothing about?

Lads like James, Fuchs, Kasper and King just at our own club are all reasonably smart guys. James is very well spoken.

Barton convinces thick football fans he's some sort of maverick genius just with a couple of Buzzfeed philosophical quotes he picked up.

His behaviour isn't that of an intelligent man, his behaviour is that of an idiot with no control over his emotions and impulses. How did that go for Paulo Di Canio?

Only a short while ago Barton was losing his rag booting non league Lincoln players because he couldn't get the better of them in football.

I'm sure on one of those player videos on the official site before the season someone mentioned that James was the thickest player at the club?

I'd assume that was tongue in cheek. He was one of the spokesmen for the club under Pearson and was always pretty well spoken and articulate.

Sort of makes my point even if he is a moron, though, in that we actually don't know a lot about many footballers.

There's thousands in the country, the idea that they're all thick or all like the same music or same cars or whatever is a bit daft.

The Fleetwood owner is mates with Barton, that's why he's got the job.

He trained with Fleetwood during one of his bans if I remember rightly.

I agree, always thought he seemed one with his head screwed on which is why the comment surprised me.

Oh I get that he’s a faux intellectual and he projects that he’s some misunderstood genius when it’s not the case but he’s still more articulate than most.

Most of our players aren’t thick but I wouldn’t say they were particularly intelligent
