Messi is a better footballer but I know who i'd prefer when the chips are down.

Ronaldo's mentality is a joke. So calm under pressure and his leadership is probably second to none.

Messi is the GOAT. Ronaldo is imo a top-3 player of all-time. He is amazing.

Ill be hard pushed to say anyone is better than Pele... and if it came down to who i could put in my team, i would take Ronaldo.

I think he can offer a greater influence and change an entire side, whereas Messi can win off his own boot.

sigh......... in the end, we are lucky to be able to watch two of the best ever, so easily and so often. amazing

Messi had his chance for true immortality ala Maradona (tosspot though he is) in 2014 and blew it.

Ronaldo, at least, managed to drag his country single-handedly to one major title even though it wasn't a World Cup.

Both amazing players, but the likes of Zidane and the original Ronaldo before them stepped for for club and country.

Not saying I'm flakey but now Ronaldo is at a club I've liked since I was a kid I have a new found respect for him. Last night he was literally doing his job. He was bought to get Juve over that UCL line and single-handedly dug them out of a hole to get them along. Massive year and opportunity for them, depending on how the draw goes on Friday.

So, so bored of the Messi/Ronaldo debate, but one thing is for sure, we're going to miss them when they're both gone. Incredible players.

I generally bite my tongue these days regards Messi vs Ronaldo because its just gotten boring.

But repeatedly hearing this shit is just so frustrating, especially from Leicester fans who more than anyone should appreciate the value of the team over the individual.

Portugal might not have the talent on hand that Argentina do but they're a well oiled, well drilled, well organised, motivated, pretty hard working team. They're well coached, they play to their strengths.

Argentina on the other hand are an omnishambles. They consistently hire the worst coaches, their players are all divas, most of whom don't give a shit, they're tactically awful, they're hugely overloaded with attacking talent while their defenders are largely bobbins.

Maradona's Argentina might not have had the super stars this one does on paper but it was an infinitely better "team." He was also playing in an era with a hell of a lot less quality and organisation in defence than the modern game. Football changed so much since the millennium its barely recognisable watching shit from the 80s and 90s half the time.

Like if you think Ronaldo is better, god speed to you, maybe he is idk. But make your decisions based on the hundreds of games they've both played in exactly the same league system or continental Cup competitions.

Judging Messi because he never single handedly won a trophy with that Argentina team is flat out retarded.

Ronaldo wasn’t that great in the Euro’s from what I remember. Missed a shitload of chances throughout that tournament. Pepe was their best player by a distance

If Liverpool beat Bayern that means we've knocked out all German clubs lol

To be fair, Man City vs Schalke was like Barca playing Burnley. Schalke are in a relegation battle in the Bundesliga.

Dortmund were favourites against Spurs at the time of the draw but they have been awful since the winter break, Spurs arguably not on top form recently but they did well. Fair play.

I am a Munich fan (Leicester becoming my team when I moved here 20 years ago). When the draw was made we were having an average season and Liverpool were on fire, and they do not suit Munich's style of play. However, form seems to have turned since the winter break and this game has gone from 70/30 in Liverpool's favour to around 50/50 tonight. Liverpool will score. The question is can Bayern outscore them?

The Barca game tonight will be boring I think but the Bayern vs Liverpool game will be tasty. No 0-0 tonight, that's for sure.

Another good CL season so far, some comebacks and upsets and it's still only the Last 16.

He's a big legend but IMO, he's in the same category as Bill Russle and Wilt Chamberlain, He was a great contributor to the game but he isn't as good as Ronaldo and Messi because of the competition. Same as saying Muzzy, Guppy, Weller, and many other former players are better than Vards, Kante and Riyad (my 3 greatest players). The eye-test says otherwise, the stats say otherwise, the league title and CL run say otherwise. The POTY says otherwise. Bigger legend? That's another topic.

Think it's the other way around. Messi is the system because he's elite at every facade of the game. Ronaldo in the last 5-6 years had the better team and better players around him. The starting XL of Madrid in the previous 3 years can be considered the best XL in the world if you add Messi. A top-3 keeper, the best CB, the best RB, the best LB, 3 of the 5 best midfielders in the world and Ronaldo, Bale and Karim, All are top 3 in their position. Some players who were playing for Barca like Gomes  can't make Madrid's bench. even better, At least 2 players from Madrid's bench could've started for Barca.

Barca have blood on their hands. They refuse to build a great team around Messi and they waste stupid money on players. Messi has to hit the ground running at the start of the season to stay in the title picture and comes March, he is fatigued whilst Ronaldo had the chance to pace himself. Poor management.

Yeah, perhaps I should have bitten my tongue too as I often do too about the matter. I certainly should have not posted about it when I was about to leave for work and as such rush the post and not elaborate.

The point of my post was expressing my own view on the Messi v Ronaldo debate about either/or being the best ever by saying that the view of them is incredibly club-centric and tiresome and while the Champions League is almost certainly the pinnacle of standard in todays game, the day I say the Champions League final is a bigger occasion than a World Cup final and therefore a bigger test of a players mental ability and skill is the day you can put me to bed with a shovel.

I'm in total agreement that the team around a player matters and that the game has changed immeasurably over the past couple of decades, but my own bias means I still think rising to the challenge of a World Cup is still a key litmus test of where exactly a player stands in the pantheon of greats.

Because I don't have any ill will towards the Germans, I don't really care how other English teams do in the CL nor do I feel represented by them, and I find the hope followed by heartbreak of Liverpool fans quite funny.

Want any more reasons? :P

:P That's cool man, each to their own.

Personally, I want all English teams to do well in Europe and always have done.
