Guest Manini Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 Nice to see us coming out of a transfer window having not signed about 7 strikers, we’ve had a huge problem with that over the last few years and now we’re struggling to shift half of them. To me, it feels like Puel has a clear image in his mind of what he wants from this team, and he’s bought accordingly. Solidity at the back, creativity through the middle and willing runners down the flanks. If you asses it on that basis I think we’ve had a good transfer window. I’d give us a B+ so far, without having seen most of the new boys play. Hopefully we kick on this season and we see Puels brand of football implemented more through having the right personnel for what he wants.
Popular Post Biggles22 Posted 9 August 2018 Popular Post Posted 9 August 2018 Time will tell. IMHO, I see great value added in the defense but am struggling to see much consistency in terms of attacking creativity beyond Maddison. As has been said numerous times, our attack has many question marks, notably around these issues of consistency, with Ghezzal, Gray, Silva, Diabate, Iheanacho all bordering on the mercurial side in terms of talent. Puel’s ability to develop this consistency is fundamental to success this season. It remains to be seen whether the move to a more versatile approach involving greater emphasis on more wide-spread creativity inclusive of Pereira, Chillwell and Albrighton, pays dividends. There certainly seems to be a premium on ensuring players, “old” and new, have the requisite skill and composure on the ball, even at the back, to pass and play with attacking intent. Distributing creativity is Puel’s second challenge. It should also be remembered that embedding seven new players into the squad along with, perhaps, reacclimating several others fresh from long-term loans last year, is no small feat. The third of Puel’s challenges. That being said, an overhaul has been needed since 2016/17 and kudos to Puel and the board for having the balls to front up and make changes even if it means letting go of links to “the season” and admitting mistakes involving transfers from previous windows. By no means do I think the transformation is complete and so, for what it’s worth, am inclined to thinking more along the lines of an arbitrary 7/10 for this window. But this current focus on more skilled youth with a higher ceiling means I’m certainly far more confident we’re heading in the right direction. Also think it means, bar a catastrophic start, the possibility of mid-table mediocrity for this season will be accepted by the board, with Puel backed to continue to reinvent and reconstruct a new LCFC image and brand (supported by state-of-the-art training facilities and focus on improving U23s) as long as progress towards sustainable longer-term growth is more assured. Stability is paramount to this and this window’s true success will be reflected in less substantial activity in the future being needed. Finally, I think this window’s success will be contingent on all of the above manifesting itself in positive football restoring and sustaining the general positivity in the fanbase. We need to see attacking intent even if it occasionally doesn’t result in a win. Side to side possession at all costs football isn’t going to cut it even taking into consideration the large influx of new players and adoption of new systems and structures on the field. Not asking for “total football”, but attacking verve would go a long way to satiating the expectations of the LCFC faithful. Hope this window helps to secure this for us. Suffice it to say, not asking for much ?. Roll on tomorrow night. Can’t wait to get started. 6 1

We might have lost our most creative player but you have to remember Vardy scored 20 league goals last season, no team with a striker that powerful should be finishing below Burnley, simple fact is we conceded far too many goals! That is a very good point to be fair. A vast majority of the goals that we conceded particularly in the second half of last season were so preventable.

Tuna Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 I think we've done brilliantly to be honest. We've kept Vardy, Maguire, Schmeichel and Ndidi and have tied Vardy down to a new deal. We've pretty well addressed all the areas we were weak and have added quality and competition. Genuinely excited to see what we can do! 1
Naz Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 You don't think you are preparing the ground for selling Maguire? That would be sensible. Selling high and buying cheap is a legitimate way to go Impossible to read most club's business as so many foreign buys who no fans know. For me Liverpool had the best window, and also Fulham. Good luck tomorrow. Not sure whether it is a good time to play Utd or not. I don't know if Lukaku is playing. Without him they seem to really struggle for goals.
Blue ROI Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 (edited) Good. 8/10 Mahrez is a loss of course but the additions of Pereira, Maddison and Evans are most welcome. The defence has been strengthened significantly and we held onto Vardy, Maguire and Kasper. Musa being sold for what he was bought for was great business. Just a shame we didnt go for another striker. We look a bit light if anything happens Vardy. Nachoman still has a lot to prove with us. Another window in January would be ideal of the goals aren't there. Would like to have seen more players moved on like King, Simpson, Benny but that should sort itself out soon hopefully. More good than bad it would appear though. Edited 9 August 2018 by Blue ROI

Yes the 2 players signed today is a sort of 'life after Harry' statement. Mourinho's presence has soured any potential signings. Maguire is better of staying with us until January at least. There is potential with us and if we don't live up to it then Maguire may look to go elsewhere.
Wizerud Posted 10 August 2018 Posted 10 August 2018 Getting Soyuncu over the line felt good to end the window. On one hand you think back to our other recent, disastrous windows and fear the worst but at the time of the windows closing the majority of us were at least optimistic if not happy with the signings. Just goes to show how hard it is to predict so let's just see how it plays out. The only thing we can judge our signings on is their work at other teams, how we think they might improve our squad. You can certainly see the logic in all of our signings even if we might've bought the wrong player.

Depends on how we do this season, I can't see Harry staying unless we get a Europa League place, possibly not even then.

roblcfc84 Posted 10 August 2018 Posted 10 August 2018 Wouldn’t be surprised if we weren’t done. If a few more go on loan I can see Ben Arfa coming in
Shane Posted 10 August 2018 Posted 10 August 2018 We definitely need to play a 1 striker system. We can’t play both Vardy and Iheanacho together with no back up.
Clever Fox Posted 10 August 2018 Posted 10 August 2018 I think we've done ok this window. Bearing in mind that what weave bought is potential. I just hope Fans don't expect too much from them this season. We're currently going through transition and there will be good games and Bad, So it's a question keeping a Balanced view going forward. things to look out for are individual players improving and are we working together and in units around the pitch. I'm very pleased that we've added plenty of Height in Defence and the new Goalkeeper. I know Ward cost a bit but he's 6 Feet 3 inches and played for a top Club and has International Experience. Given how our recent GK targets have worked out I'm reasonably happy he'll do ok. My worry is still Left side of midfield and Goals if Vardy hits a dry spell. Can Kelechi step up or do we have a plan be. Maybe play one Iborra or one of the new CBs in the opposition box to disrupt them. I'd have like a few more moved out but All in all it has been a good window and I like the thinking that's gone into it.

Bablemikey Posted 10 August 2018 Posted 10 August 2018 don't think we can assess how well we've done for a good 6 months or so. 1
Spudulike Posted 12 August 2018 Posted 12 August 2018 Random question, but does anyone know if Premier League clubs can recruit loan players from other leagues abroad or elsewhere ?? I'm aware that PL clubs can't loan to each other.
sylofox Posted 13 August 2018 Posted 13 August 2018 On paper it seems a good window In reality ill let you know after 8/10 games. Mods can this be moved to the main forum once the window closes.
simon789us Posted 16 August 2018 Posted 16 August 2018 7/10 for me let too many attacking players go slim Leo musa and marhez and brought In ghazzhi think we are a winger and striker short but glad we have improved defense Puel needs to grow some balls and drop Wes been a monster for us over last few seasons but it’s time for the new lads to shine and hopefully bring in couple of attackers in Jan
