urban.spaceman Posted 22 February 2019 Posted 22 February 2019 At Saturday's game against Crystal Palace, Leicester City Football Club is showing its support for the Football v Homophobia campaign. Football v Homophobia (FvH) takes place year-round and the campaign has its Month of Action in February. It is an international campaign to tackle homophobia and prejudice against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) people in football. The aim of FvH is to make football safe and welcoming for everyone. Polls have shown that while football fans would be more accepting than ever of a gay player in their team, as many as 72 per cent of football fans have heard homophobic abuse at football matches. Using homophobic or transphobic language towards someone because you don’t like the way they play football, manage a team, make a refereeing decision or because of whom they support is wrong. It’s against the Laws of the Game and can be a criminal offence, but most importantly, it can make football an intimidating and unpleasant place for fellow fans, players, match officials and administrators of the game. Attitudes in football are changing, but we all need to make sure that the language we use and the way we behave reflects this change. Fans can make a real difference to the culture of football and we’d like your support. Throughout Football v Homophobia month and beyond, please help Leicester City by standing up to prejudice and discrimination against LGBT people in the game. Together we can make football a welcoming place for everyone. If you witness any behaviour during a game, such as anti-gay chanting and hateful or prejudiced language, speak to a nearby steward, the police, a club official or contact Kick It Out via the reporting line – 0800 169 9414 – or the Kick It Out app www.kickitout.org/get-involved/report-it. Trav Le Bleu Posted 22 February 2019 Posted 22 February 2019 When do we play them and have we got a chance of winning? Any players we should look out for?

Guest MattP Posted 22 February 2019 Posted 22 February 2019 The issue really is barely anyone is actually genuinely homophobic anymore, no one cares in 2019 except a small minority of knuckleheads. Even gay marriage is a majority opinion now among traditional Conservatives. So we (groups who need us to do so) have to get worked up about people singing songs about padded seats or holding hands and then we wear rainbow laces to show how tolerant we all are and to revel in a warm glow about how inclusive we are. It's one of the most fascinating things about the modern first World that the less prejudice exists the more people demand to search for it, supply doesn't meet demand so we end up with people saying "that was gay" being derided as bigots and homophobes. It's all a bit queer (archaic definition).

I had this conversation with a friend recently about someone’s reaction to a similar comment and I was asking if it warranted that reaction to which they pointed out that to sound minded adults general slurs aren’t going to offend but for someone young and struggling with their sexuality it might.
AjcW Posted 22 February 2019 Posted 22 February 2019 It just needs one footballer to feel safe enough to be honest to help this be a none issue. The fact is. There’s what 80-90 players on our books from age 16+... it’s quite obvious someone in our club will be gay, the awful thing is they won’t be honest about it. The fact is, the last person to openly come out ultimately killed themselves... which doesn’t exactly set the most inviting precedent. Football desperately needs someone to be brave enough to come out in the modern era... simple fact is there’s more than likely a £50m+ footballer out there who is... and who could make a huge difference, they just don’t feel comfortable enough to do that. Bottom line is it’s ****ing sad that this still needs to be campaigned for. Apologies for being serious in this thread... apparently we’re not doing that? ??♂️?♂️
