BenTheFox Posted 11 June 2019 Posted 11 June 2019 Who would you say have been our ten best permanent signings since being promoted to the premier league in 2014? I'd go with: 1. N'Golo Kanté (world class, would not have won the league without him. Nothing more to be said) 2. Robert Huth (The experienced big square head we needed at the back. Leader) 3. Esteban Cambiasso (Class act. Was the calming influence in the great escape) 4. Wilfred Ndidi (Filled the Kanté sized hole in midfield. An absolute beast without the ball) 5. Harry Maguire (He signalled a change in playing style as he is comfortable on the ball. A snip at £17 million, if he goes we'll make a profit of £45 million +) 6. Jonny Evans (Rolls Royce of a defender. Vastly Experienced and a snip at £3.5 million. Great Business) 7. Ricardo Periera (The modern full-back, great going forward. Good value at roughly £20 million. Has helped soften the blow of losing Mahrez) 8. James Maddison (One of the most technically gifted players I've seen play for us. As with Ricardo has helped soften the blow of losing Mahrez) 9. Christian Fuchs (Consistent performer, a massive upgrade on what we had before in Konchelsky and Schlupp and a great character to have in the squad) 10. Marc Albrighton (Had a fair few good seasons out of him. Absolute grafter, always works his way back into the side and scored some very important goals. Great free transfer) It was very tough narrowing it down to ten. Honourable mentions must go to Danny Simpson, Leonardo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki.
Soar Fox Posted 11 June 2019 Posted 11 June 2019 Robert Huth. We would have gone down in 2014/15 without him.

I'd have Ricardo above Maguire and Evan and I'd have Albrighton just below Cambiasso and Fuchs just under him for their contributions to our club over the years including the title win and a Champions League quarter final. But all in all a pretty good list and despite some transfer hiccups, we've shown we've signed some good players too. And the list by not including pre Premier League era signings of course does not mention players like Vardy, Mahrez, Kasper, Wes, Nuge, Drinkwater who were pivotal in the Championship and played their part in the Premier League era too. We've been blessed over the last 5 years for sure!
TheSomersetFox Posted 11 June 2019 Posted 11 June 2019 1. Kante - Goat 2. Huth - Completely turned our defence around, monster of a defender 3. Ricardo - Exactly what we needed at rb, maybe premature to have him this high in the list but I have him down as one of the best full backs in Europe. Great coup 4. Ulloa - Scorer of some of the biggest goals in our history 5. Cambiasso - Top class, still daft that we managed to get someone of his calibre in. And on a free. 6. Maguire - Been brilliant all things considered and we'll likely make a huge profit on him 7. Maddison - Will probably rise up this list in a years time. Class player who will no doubt become an England regular 8. Albrighton - Free transfer, brilliant servant 9. Fuchs - See Albrighton 10. Okazaki/Ndidi/Simpson - Take your pick, all great buys

We would have gone down in 2014/15 without him. Agree with both of these. Obviously Kante is one of the best (if not the best) players we've ever had, but Huth's signing kept us up and he his performances in the second half of the title winning season were crucial. And it wouldn't have been possible without Okazaki's work-rate either. With him and Kante in the same team it was like having 13 players sometimes. Edit: Can't leave out Ulloa either. Some of the goals he provided would have been worth 8 million on their own. And he was an absolute warrior in the last few games of 2015/16.

HybridFox Posted 11 June 2019 Posted 11 June 2019 Incredible gulf in quality of players available to sign when in the Premier League vs the Championship. We've come a long way from the retirement freebies and countless loanees.
Vlad the Fox Posted 11 June 2019 Posted 11 June 2019 Okazaki has to be in there, he was as pivotal in that title team as Kanta in so much as his tireless unselfish hard graft allowed others like Vardy and Mahrez and the front line in general to have the freedom to go about doing what they did best.
Xen Posted 11 June 2019 Posted 11 June 2019 Kante - no explanation needed Huth - transformed us when he came in Ricardo - absolutely fantastic debut season. Arguably the best RB in the league last year Fuchs - brilliant for both his experience and his personality within the team Albrighton - on a free, perhaps the most hard-working player in the squad since we got promoted, some brilliant moments Okazaki - the perfect foil for Vardy, pivotal to the way we played in the title season Simpson - 'unspectacular' sums him up, but he was a rock at the back and allowed Mahrez free reign to tear up the league Maguire - Fantastic player, first-choice England international under us, WC heroics Ndidi - filled the hole left by Kante and has done an amazing job despite being so young. Ulloa - scored some pivotal goals for us, loved having him in the squad. Wish he was given more opportunities. Honourable mentions to Cambiasso (how the **** did we manage that?) and Maddison (looks to be on-the-up), and if Tielemans signs permanently he'll make his way on there as well. Even Evans has had a fantastic season and looks to be a brilliant buy. Really difficult narrowing it down to just 10. The title-winners all deserve to be up there for obvious reasons, and there's not much space left for the rest

I think the thing that sums up his importance more than anything is that we spent about £70 million trying to upgrade him and still always came back to Okazaki. It wasn't until we signed Maddison that we really saw the last of him.
Tuna Posted 11 June 2019 Posted 11 June 2019 Huth Kante Ulloa Albrighton Fuchs Okazaki Simpson Cambiasso Ndidi Maguire.
Fox92 Posted 11 June 2019 Posted 11 June 2019 We'd have gone down without Huth's addition and Ulloa's goals
Dr Marco Posted 11 June 2019 Posted 11 June 2019 Kante Huth Ulloa Albrighton Fuchs Okazaki Ricardo Pereira Cambiasso Ndidi Maddison
urban fox Posted 11 June 2019 Posted 11 June 2019 Hard to narrow down to ten. Despite the fact that there have been some poor signings (or just didn't do it/fit in here for one reason or another) on balance we have actually done rather well in our dealings since 2014. To be fair, given that we moved Musa and Ibhorra on without taking a massive hit (the last I thought did ok when he got in the side) our only real disasters have been Slimani, and possibly Nacho (unless there is a dramatic turn around under BR). When you factor in that some of our best signings were frees or bargain basement then its even more remarkable.
Blue ROI Posted 11 June 2019 Posted 11 June 2019 Kante - One of the greatest signings in World Football this decade let alone Leicester. Huth - Vital signing at the time. Experience in relegation battle was huge. And of course its 3-0 and Robert Huth is on a hat trick Pereira - An atrocious start but one of the best players in the league since November. Maddison - Bit lightweight at times but has brought a touch of class since he signed. Might be the best attacking midfielder in the club so far. Albrighton - Given he was surplus to requirements at a rapidly disintegrating Villa what he went on to achieve with us was phenomenal Fuchs - Was immense in the title winning season. N'Didi - The first signing post-Pearson that was in anyway a success. Was badly needed as we were lost without Kante. Started to recover lost ground after he joined. Evans - Best defender of the post title winning era. Less prone to mistakes than anyone else. An astute bit of business at 3.5 million Ulloa - Massive goals in the great escape and last month of the title win. The least regarded player talent wise on the list but he was there to get goals at 2 of our crucial peaks. Okazaki - Like Ulloa not the most elegant of players but ran himself (and fell) into the ground every game. Piano lifters have their place. Maguire, Simpson and Cambiasso a bit unlucky but others above them have slightly stronger claims.
