Are we using the Window to harden our stance?

Recommended Posts

Be interesting if the club were trying to make a new stance for us and the rest of the following pack (ignoring Wolves, they are a special case), just to let the big boys know that what’s ours is ours, go do your own scouting.

Would very much like this to be the case, but business is business I guess. :dunno:

Sadly, obscene money wins over big money...

I wouldn't say we're hardening our stance but probably getting a little more savvy with experience, the Kante release clause and Mahrez spitting his dummy out have probably taught the club a few things.

If a bid comes in for Maguire way above the club's valuation I think it would be accepted.

I’ve yet to attain a hard on over a footballer - but then I’ve never been confused.

Also probably more likely bigger clubs will make a ridiculous offer nearing the end of the window which of course we will reject but the players head has now been turned so we will accept a lesser figure come january for an unhappy player.

The kante signing was one of the best signings of all time.

Signed for a relatively modest amount and played a major role in winning the league.

Sold for a massive profit.

Relatively modest? We paid about £5m for one of the best midfielders in the world.

I get what you’re saying though mate, it was a (small) gamble. One of the reasons why we won the league ultimately. Even if we found someone of his quality for £30m, it’d be a bargain.

Arteries from the ups and downs of being a city fan?

Interesting word to use after pornhub lol

I joke.

On the real, i think we should play hardball because when it comes to maguire we hold the bargaining power. You want someone you pay the fair market value that the team dictates.  To United its 80 million but to us its could be the difference between top 7 and the bottom half of the table/relegation especially if other teams come in for our other good players.

Taking best players from clubs like ours can be massive. The money doesnt always buy us much because other clubs do the same to us as 'they know we got 80 mill". Its a trickle effect really as we do it to other clubs.

Really need salary caps in football. Will force teams to rely more on their academies instead of poaching.

The club handled the Mahrez situation perfectly. Record sale for us and buy for Moneybags City and we showed that we wouldn’t cave in even when our star player wanted to leave. That’s added millions/10s of millions onto every subsequent sale of major players. We wouldn’t be asking for 80 mill for Maguire without it, clubs would laugh at us.

Agree, we need to get a reputation that we aren’t going to be taken for mugs and I think we’re achieving that. Other teams will  take us seriously in the transfer market and maybe think twice before trying to take our players (on the cheap). We need a reputation as being bastards to deal with when trying to take our players lol

I hope we hold on to everybody we want to for this window at least. It’ll further show the likes of Manchester Utd and Manchester City that they can not turn the heads of players, get them to put in TR’s and pay a low ball fee.

Start of next window the price is £100 million for Harry Maguire. Pay it today or no sale.

Edit: Oh and a 50 million first refusal by back clause if sold within 4 years. Afterall it’s Monopoly and you don’t sell Mayfair to the richest player on the board unless you are getting Bond Street Oxford Street and Regent Street with Hotels on them in Exchange.

Yeh the big clubs try this trick alot. Like Man City did with Mahrez in the January before they signed him. Disgusting tactics but the big clubs dont like the fact they can't just take players from clubs like ours whenever they want anymore.

It’s nothing prosaic, we either price out other teams by attaching a high price tag or if they want to pay the large fees we’re asking then it’s worth it because it’s beyond our player’s worth anyway.

That's actually a very prosaic stance to take.

We should be in a better position than we've ever been to hang on to all of our players. A good manager, new state of the art training ground on the way, stadium expansion, a very good young squad, we've never been in a better position. We should wait till the players return and Rodgers should speak to the likes of Maguire and sell his vision for the club (hes probably already done this) and if wants to leave then we get the most money possible. If he wants to stay then we say no players are available this summer. If we can keep all our players and still buy youri and 1 or 2 others then we absolutely should. None of our players seem like they are desperate to leave unlike with Mahrez and Drinkwater.
