No sympathy or empathy there in the words he uttered. Worth a read: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01GSCZZ6M/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 The thing is even if it were a case that it were people mismanaging their budgets (which I don't believe it is), you don't just dismiss that and blame the people who are struggling, you create policies and strategies to help educate people to make better decisions.
Paninistickers Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 I'm naturally a centre right Tory. A remainer. Socially liberal. Basically all the things Boris used to be as London mayor. But the Tory party now disgusts me. Especially the ex remain cowards like Javid and Hancock. Please god lethhere be a hung parliament on Friday am
iniesta Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 21 minutes ago, The Fox Covert said: Tory candidate for Broxtowe Darren Henry has prompted anger by suggesting at a hustings meeting last Friday that people using food banks can't manage their budget properly. You can hear audible gasps in the room as he makes his comments. “He’s utterly clueless and lacks the understanding and compassion to be an MP,” said Anna Soubry, former Cabinet Minister and Tory MP for Broxtowe, and seeking re-election as an Independent Group for Change candidate. You just can't make it up sometimes. The whole Tory Party seems to have turned into a bunch of Tory Boy Harry Enfield clones. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/tory-candidate-food-banks-poor-families-budget-darren-henry-broxtowe-a9238076.html Unfortunately, it's a sad reflection on British society and our education system that the MP is spot on.
The People's Hero Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 Marxist/Racist vs Serial Liar vs Out of Depth Idiot. Hmmmmmm. Could genuinely end up voting for some no-hopers like the Greens here.

I never thought I'd utter these words, but Nicola Sturgeon is the only party leader worthy of the role. Calm, empathetic and strategic.

Labour ran a deficit in good times, let banks run unregulated, encouraged a unsustainable property price boom, bloated the public sector, loaded PFI into hospitals. There is plenty of evidence, the IFS have stated as much. We have living proof in Venezuela of the sort of damage these backward socialist policies have on encomies and wealth, this in a country with vast supplies of oil not relying on 'the city's for 75% of GDP. How do you know I am not an economist? because I dont buy tax and spend? I would like to see your evidence of poverty and inequality rising too? How does it compare to Venezuela? Where Corbyns policies are in action! Look at the graph that MattP posted, there never is any money. Every nation in the world except maybe macau is in debt. It’s not like the treasury is actually gringotts bank or something lol. Yes I agree pretty much every western economy in the world was mismanaged due to deregulation and privatisation. Why do people think Venezuela is a fair comparison at all? Why not one of the Nordic countries which are much more like our country? Because they don’t fit the narrative. And my apologies for the economist comment it is just because your opinions seem to be against the academic paradigm post neoliberalism. There are loads of sources for poverty and inequality in this thread. Food bank usage is my favourite to use. However, obviously it’s a debate as to what is poverty and how it should be compared. I’ve reread my original post and my phrasing of that is perhaps an oversight so my apologies I was writing it at work haha

Perhaps the most damning thing you can say about the system, the politicians themselves, the parties, whatever .... is that they've driven a lot of people beyond disillusionment in to simply not caring.
Mark_w Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 The MRP still has Uxbridge looking a little bit interesting.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 10 December 2019 Posted 10 December 2019 Madness to think that Labour could lose seats from 2017 yet will celebrate "victory" by stopping the Tories getting a majority again. How has it got so bad for them that they're not even in the ballpark for a majority after nine years in opposition?

Careful what you wish for - Boris and Raab gone with a Tory maj and it's Priti Patel as your PM for 5 years. Some mental swings on it. I'm finding it hard to believe the Tories are winning Sedgefield but losing Grimsby. Labour holding on to the more than the Tories in Scotland as well??

Big questions need asking of Labour whatever the result - turned into a mob incapable now of getting even close to a majority.

Something we can all look forward to.

Interesting to see North Norfolk at the top of the list. Once a safe Tory seat until Norman Lamb came along. Sad to see people of his calibre leave parliament one of the very few MPs I have any respect for.
