Shoreham Seagull Posted 24 November 2019 Posted 24 November 2019 Congratulations on the win, the better side won. I enjoyed the match and have to admit Albion were fortunate not to go in a couple of goals down at HT. We seemed to pick up the tempo for 15-20 minutes in the second half giving me hope that we might just get something from this game but alas no. I think we were our own worst enemies for the first goal getting caught so short at the back but Vardy got the decision to pass to Perez just right as he was left on his own by our chasing defenders. I like JV, always have, but I didn't think he was on it yesterday. For all that though he was a constant threat. As for the penalty re-take, that had me scratching my head to be honest as I thought that encroachment would give us a free kick (not that in any way it would have changed the result) I hope you go on to really push Liverpool for the title - no make that actually win it. I certainly think your first choice 11 is as good as theirs. We'll try to do you a favour next week 😉 Albion? We are playing some nice stuff at times but yesterday was just too much of a challenge. We missed Lewis Dunk (I thought Duffy's lack of pace and distribution caused us lots of problems) but other than that I was reasonably happy with the way we played. We need a big forward to help Moupay out I feel but the midfield is improving all the time - Propper has come on in leaps and bounds under the new management for example. The long-term aim is for top 10 but we are a fair bit from that just yet but who knows what a couple of shrewd buys could give us. Potter-style football has (largely) been a joy to watch (apart from Chelsea away and yesterday) and I'm hopeful for the future. Anyway, well done for yesterday - now go and win the League.Â
AKCJ Posted 24 November 2019 Posted 24 November 2019 Agree regarding Vardy, even though he got a goal and an assist. Â He should have had a hattrick yesterday.
Out Foxed Posted 24 November 2019 Posted 24 November 2019 your man was almost at the byline and clearly encroached first. why would you get a free kick for that? Â agree with your sentences before that though.
coolhandfox Posted 24 November 2019 Posted 24 November 2019 Very balanced view, I'm sure Vardy had placed a bet on himself not to scored yesterday!  On a another day he would have had 2 or 3!Â

We weren't at our clinical best but still created loads of chances and with how rock solid we are at the back we always give ourselves a great chance of winning. I don't see Brighton as a side that will be in a relegation battle to be honest. Dunk was a big miss for you  As for the encroachment there was about 6 players in the box before Vardy struck it (2 Leicester and 4 Brighton) so a retake was the only fair outcome. Would've been interesting to see if we'd have got a retake if Madders hadn't put the ball in though.  As a side note what happened with Knockaert? I thought he was one of your top players  Good luck for the rest of the season

Think this could potentially open a can of worms with penalties as encroachment should be checked after every penalty now? Will teams demand it?   If Vardy had scored first would it have been disallowed? Probably not although technically it should have been retaken still.  I'm sure coaches will be telling their players to be really careful over the next few game weeks.... Â

It should be checked after every penalty
Spudulike Posted 24 November 2019 Posted 24 November 2019 I think the Brighton keeper was also off his line so it should've been retaken anyway.
Stoopid Posted 24 November 2019 Posted 24 November 2019 Because Maddy scored they had to re-examine the pen & clearly the Brighton encroachment was more obvious resulting in a retake. No goal on the rebound = no retake. Still a touch fortunate though...must say, I've got a lot of time for Potter & Brighton look a decent outfit now. Great stadium as well - remember going to the old Goldstone. Roger Davies 'playing' for us in a terrible display in the pouring rain. Fair to say we've both come a long way.

Last season playing deep worked as we didn't have the ability to break teams down but now we're comfortable playing against this.  Think your manager thought maybe playing a more open game might just see you at least getting a few goals but this didn't materialise (don't think you had a shot on target)  We're pretty frightening at the moment.  Â
foxfanazer Posted 24 November 2019 Posted 24 November 2019 Was pretty bizarre that they sent everybody up for their corner except for Montoya

Collymore Posted 24 November 2019 Posted 24 November 2019 ...Also you couldn't handle our high press and don't think your keeper is comfortable with the ball at his feet. He looks a hell of a shot stopper but a liability trying to play the Ederson role!  Â

This is something Potter seems to like us to do (it frightens the hell out of me) and we actually did it quite well at the Etihad. Ryan seems comfortable enough with it but he does get passed to a lot. Must be quite stressfulÂ

The one error I thought he made was at the end of the first half when he hesitated with a 50/50 with Vardy running at him

In all honesty I wasn't paying much attention to encroachment as I had given Vardy the goal before he hit it. I was so surprised he missed. So for the remainder of the game I was thinking if Maddison had encroached then surely it was a free-kick. It changed nothing as we weren't testing Schmeichel at all which is a cause for concern. We've spent a bit of money on two forwards (Andone and Locardia) who, for one reason or another haven't worked out. Andone looked promising but has a suspect temperament and both have been loaned abroad (I don't think we'll see either again) Now we are a bit light with attacking options. Maybe they might find a short-term fix in January. We are in a run of fixtures where points will be hard to come by but I'm actually thinking we might get something at the Emirates in a fortnight. Next Saturday it's Anfield and I'm hoping Liverpool's below-par form continues and their luck runs out - it will still take a great effort for us to come back with anything though.Â
StriderHiryu Posted 24 November 2019 Posted 24 November 2019 We should have been out of sight in the first half but Potter clearly got into his team during the break as we were hemmed in at the start of the second.  @Shoreham Seagull I’ve seen mixed reactions to Brighton’s performances this season from your fans but I think you’re doing decently. To change your style is not going to happen overnight - look at us as an example who over time brought in more technical players and had plenty of periods of naff football before we got it right. I can see a clear style of play from Brighton and IMO look way better than anything under Hughton. As long as you don’t go down you’ll have a platform to build on and I think there are definitely 3 worse teams than Brighton this season.Â

There was massive clamour on here for us to make a move for him when he was at AZ but he seems to have vanished. Do think alot of these players that piss the weaker leagues in Europe get a slight shock when they realise the amount of defensive work that needs doing here if you're to be a success, regardless of where you play.

Langston Posted 24 November 2019 Posted 24 November 2019 To add, Potter seems a really classy bloke, hope he does well with Brighton.

Agree re Vardy, thought he was bang off it yesterday. But still got a goal and assist! Could’ve had 3 or 4.
