Ginger_Filbert Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 According to the athletic. I don’t have a subscription so would be helpful if someone could post the article. Hopefully it means what it says on the tin and isn’t just someone’s idea.
Dahnsouff Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 Scary close to what the folks on the tifo football podcast said last week, like word for word.
st albans fox Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 It’s not rocket science ......but it wouldn’t surprise me if an existing platform like amazon or Facebook/YouTube split the difference by guaranteeing a much larger income than current broadcast deals but required a 10/15 year commitment to do so. Hence, the PL get a huge revenue boost guaranteed for that period whilst the platform that does the deal takes the small risk that it doesn’t pay and the initial years investment etc
CUJimmy Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 If the Amazon Prime experiment is anything to go by there is still a technology issue. The production was fine but the picture nowhere near HD which we are all used to now - our internet connection is plenty fast enough so that wasn’t it. I only watched at home so wonder what is was like on a big screen in a pub. We also tried Eleven Sports when they had the USPGA Golf but that was so bad it was unwatchable on a TV but just about ok on a tablet.

Not sure what happened to your stream but when I watched a couple of games it was near perfect.
Foxhateram Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 Don't really care for HD. Just want to watch every Leicester game that I can't get to.

It was fine on a tablet but grainy on a normal 42” TV. Not a problem when it is free but if I am going to be asked to pay for it then it needs to be the same picture quality as Sky or BT. We use Amazon Prime for other things and the picture is perfect so our connection is not the issue. Checking reviews on the internet it seems that plenty of people had the same experience but it was better when they were only streaming one match so hopefully it is a capacity issue at their end.
lildave3 Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 Would be quite interested in where they are getting NBA League Pass for £10 a month from...

I watched games over the xmas period on Prime both on my laptop with a hardwire connection to my router and also via my virgin box amazon app. nothin but HD for me. if you are watching via dongle or on your laptop through wi-fi then you were bound to have a loss of picture and lagging etc. There's a significant market for this, and the Amazon experiment only reinforces the possibility of this going ahead. I suspected years back it would be a conglomerate of betting companies that would step into the streaming market, but Amazon can afford either taking a loss if needs be to make this happen. It was also refreshing to watch the ads, as it wasn't wall to wall betting companies pushing their bobbins.
danny. Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 The games I watched on amazon were perfect 1080p for me and I don’t even have that quick an Internet, even on a 100+ inch projector
CUJimmy Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 Sounds like we all have different experiences. We were watching on a Smart TV using the built-in App, yes, it was over wifi but that doesn’t make any difference normally. We live in a small village well away from the city, we have fibre but only to a box half a mile away with copper from there.

Live streaming HD from your television whilst, say the rest of the household are using the same wi-fi for their phones/laptops/tablets etc, there's going to be a lag and possible disconnect. There's also a chance the app might need updating for your smart tv, but unless you're plugged directly into your router, which is your best and easiest solution you'll likely have some issues. The outside connection won't be the major issue, especially if you have a reasonable service and download speed in general.
foxpleasure Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 The Amazon games I watched were definitely HD via an Amazon app on my 55inch smart tv.
davieG Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 Not really interested in this unless it shows all LCFC games for that you'd need to be able to stream all games which will need the cancelling of the 3pm Sat veto or games being played at other times, I suspect also it will be a backdoor way to give the "bigger clubs" more of the revenues.

Is there an equivalent model elsewhere in the world where this isn't the case? i understand the NBA livestream all the games in the US? Do the big teams get more of the revenues?

No idea but the PL continually attempt to do this and did so with the overseas revenues recently albeit with the help of a majority of the PL clubs including LCFC I understand all NFL revenues are split evenly including merchandise hence why they get many different winners.

I paid for the NBA league pass package and it is excellent. every game in HD live or to watch at anytime (much easier for us with a time difference). You can also split screen and watch multi live games, zooming in on one as and when you wish. The technology is there, not sure why you'd have problems like you found with Prime. 45 minutes ago, Foxhateram said: Don't really care for HD. I'd hope - like the NBA - you could have the choice of every team or for a smaller amount just sign up for every game of the team of your choice. For foriegn markets it simply means you can sleep at night and watch the game when you get up or whenever you're free without having to cancel appointments.

Pliskin Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 This is the future of football. You’ll soon be able to stream all premier league games. It’s been in the pipeline for a few years, but football clubs really should have made the move themselves. I’d happily pay £10 to have the ability to watch all of the away games on a streaming service, I can’t always make them, and it means I can put an end to shuffling around Marks and Spencer’s every bloody weekend we’re away. There’s only so many shades of beige I can take.
SouthStandUpperTier Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 The only way I can see it being allowed is if there are no Premier League Saturday 3pm kickoffs, so it doesn't clash with lower league games.
Claridge Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 They should put our ticket office in charge of sales. Be 100 years before it took off
Zear0 Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 Think the point trying to be made by the writer was that the Premier League are looking to sell directly to the audience as opposed to selling it to a distributor such as Sky. An example they have was Indonesia I think where they sold the rights for 70m and then the broadcaster sold it for 170mil. They're just trying to cut out the middleman and not mandating it be streamed. Could be broadcast too.
HybridFox Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 Agree with others that I would definitely get this if it meant I could watch every Leicester game. Not really that bothered if it's just a platform to show behind the scenes content.
GingerrrFox Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 It will end up like NFL GamePass, where you pay a smaller amount just to watch and have access to your own team or you can pay more and have access to all teams matches. Like someone said earlier it’s not rocket science, the Premier League is the biggest sports league in the world now. Going direct to consumer means happier fans (less money being shelled out than before) and richer clubs (cutting out the middle men). They just need to pull the trigger on getting the infrastructure together.
Tuna Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 If this means we'll see something along the lines of what we saw with Amazon Prime over Christmas and the ability to stream every game and watch every LCFC match, I'm all in for it. Was very impressed with Amazon Prime.
