st albans fox Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 Does the NBA streamable service run on another platform or an in house nba owned one ? i know that nba tv is ‘transmitted’ by Warner
BroughtonFox Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 I don’t have Sky or BT but would happily pay for a service that offers every premier league game.
Master Fox Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 They livestream every single Prem game in the US. Standard NBC sports channel shows the Sky covered games without the Sky presenters, then you pay $70 extra one time flat fee for the season for NBC Sports gold which shows all the games. No lagging, perfect quality, no studio pundits for non main games. Works perfectly on phones, tablets, TV’s, browsers. Needs to happen in the UK.

This is my concern. I'm in favour of this but I do worry that this will just grow the divide. How many people will be paying to watch Liverpool and Man Utd every week over the newly promoted teams for example? I think it will be very hard to argue for any real parity in fees when the big clubs will be able to point so readily to the numbers in their favour. I hope we go down the line of the NFL game pass and make it evenly split but I just don't see the PL doing that.

Sly Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 I enjoyed the football over the Christmas period on Amazon. I thought at the time, that o”one day, all football will be shown this way”. I do believe the English game will need to change to accommodate it. I’m not sure our league system is sustainable.
Matt Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 I've got reservations about it all personally. I'm surprised in this day and age its not already a thing. I think it's a good thing and there is a place for it all. However if and when it comes on one hand all kick offs should be a 3pm Saturday correct? No need to move the games and make it an inconvenience to the match going supporter. On the other hand from a selfish point of view I like the Saturday lunchtime and late kick offs as I do the Sunday games, aslong as it doesn't disrupt me, as I said its a selfish point of view. I understand I can't have this both ways. I do feel match going supporters aren't cared or considered at all amongst the TV companies or the powers that be who rule football and they are more concerned and cater for the armchair fan, which I do worry what effect that will have on the match going fan, I think attendances will suffer (At the top of the game and all the way down the pyramid) and I still think we'll get shafted and have even more incovenience with even more stupid KO times when there is no need for KO times to alter at all on a platform where every game is available let alone alter more (Probably).
The Blur Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 It will be interesting to see the effect this have on ticket prices. The wishful thinking is that given the boosted (hopefully this will be the key) income from the streaming service and the fact that clubs will need to attract some fans who may be swaying between staying at home or going to matches, they may be incentivised to lower their ticket prices.
CosbehFox Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 Still can’t see it happening in the UK any time soon. Premier League would need the backing of a broadcasting giant like Sky to provide the necessary production, cameras etc

NFL’s red zone works as Fox and NBC are televising the games regardless. Similar with NBA etc

Gotta set the alarm. Otherwise you'd miss the “live commentary” in our match thread (or the PL season thread)

Guest seanfox778 Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 Won't this just be for overseas viewers? I fear they'll have a lot of obstacles to get this in the UK for every game.
steflcfc Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 I would happily pay to watch all Leicester home and away matches over a season. Not too fussed about the other games, bar few derbies like Man C v Man U, Liverpool V Everton etc I personally don’t think it will effect crowds at the football in the Premier League or lower down the football pyramid. There will be enough people who will prefer go down to watch the game in the/a stadium there are still aspects of going down to a ground that tv/an experience can’t buy.
Sly Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 My Amazon stream was perfect. People forget that 10 years ago, you’d struggle to watch winter games on sky if the weather was bad, due to the horrendous weather blocking the signal.

Sly Posted 9 February 2020 Posted 9 February 2020 I think it’s more the politics Like you say, every game is already filmed. It’s just sorting the rights out.

To nit pick. nbcsportsgold prem pass was $49 in 2018, and they upped it to $64 for this season, will probably go up in 2020-21 again as well. also nbc sports gold can't show all replays as soon as the game has finished, if it's being shown on nbc sports channel, those games are delayed till 6pm on the streaming platform which is a pain in the arris. so on a given weekend day you can watch games shown on nbc sports gold right away, but if they're shown on nbc sports you somehow have to avoid the result until 6pm local time which is ridiculous. Having said that $64 is cheaper than paying for the nbc sports channel in whatever cable/satellite tier you need, so i cancelled my nbc sports channel level and just pay for the app, pays for itself in 2 months that way. also NBC shows sat morning game on it's terrestrial channel locally in 4k, but the app only shows HD at best. ESPN+ is the bargain, you get league cup, fa cup, champ, L1, and L2 (the latter 2 only show a few games per month but still) all replays available immediately for $4.99 a month.

The production was fine but the picture nowhere near HD which we are all used to now - our internet connection is plenty fast enough so that wasn’t it. I only watched at home so wonder what is was like on a big screen in a pub. We also tried Eleven Sports when they had the USPGA Golf but that was so bad it was unwatchable on a TV but just about ok on a tablet. DAZN is the provider in Canada and it’s all online streaming. Never been a problem. If they can do it, amazon sure as heck can. Worth noting that before the season everyone in canada was panicking because DAZN had been known to be awful. But it’s been fantastic since day 1 for me. So as a man living in the future of football, I can confirm it’s great 👍

The video comes from the broadcasting/production companies related to Sky and BT. BBC have an agreement with Sky for Match of the Day. Premier League would need to work alongside these for a streaming service - which they would be reluctant to do and dent their profits. Amazon were reliant on BT on this regard in December.

The way for Sky, BT or Amazon to maximize their profits is to establish themselves as the sole broadcast partner. Out of the current 4 players, 2 stand to benefit hugely, EPL + 1 broadcaster.
