Leicester lad and ex-player, Ian Baraclough has been appointed Northern Ireland manager, to succeed Michael O'Neill. He has been promoted from Under 21 boss.

We've always a few connections with Northern Ireland.  Brendan and Jonny Evans now and MO'N of course.

I don't think Baraclough ever played a League match for us, but I'm sure I remember him in a Cup game or two? He did have a fair playing career elsewhere though (QPR at a reasonably high level and a long time at Grimsby), but only an average pedigree as a Manager (mainly in Scotland), so quite a gamble for Northern Ireland, especially after the (relative) success of Michael O'Neill.

Not forgetting Taggart, Lennon, Colin Hill, Keith Gillespie and Gareth McCauley... Plus John O'Neill, who, because I'm a useless trivia and stats freak, I know held the club record for international appearances with 39 for Northern Ireland, until a certain King took the crown.

Love the connection personally, being of Northern Irish descent it makes me feel even more connected with this club.

Ian Baraclough bloody hell that is a blast from the past. When I first got into football, there was always positive reports in the Mercury of the Kitson/Baraclough partnership on the youth teams. One was sold to Derby and the other never really made his mark.

Also, for those who were old enough to remember before Football Manager, there was Championship Manager and Baraclough was awesome in that.

Players from the north of ireland have been far more regular than from Dublin or rest of the south of Ireland strange one really

good to see any Irish player these days given how few operate in the premier league compared to say 20 years ago

Didnt even know this connection!

The connections between Leicester and Northern Ireland were the reasons I supported City in the mid-late 90s when all my school mates were supporting Liverpool and Man U.

I remember in the 80s when it seemed a big deal that we had two internationals in Ramsey and O'Neill being called up for Northern Ireland.

How far we've come.
