He is an exceptionally good footballer. When he plays well Leicester City play well. Obviously he should be in the England squad, but Southgate has a grudge against him.

Right first time coming up with a football chant, so go easy boys.

But to the tune of Alison by Elvis Costello:

Maddison,

We know your hip is killing you,

Oh Maddison,

But your aim is true

Haha. Yes - I suggested that in the football chant thread a couple of years ago, but your words are better.

Southgate is the reason that a lot of English fans have fallen out of love with watching England.

But dull football has got them to a final and a semi.

I guess this opinion is for another topic, but England have the potential to play sensational football AND get results.

Unfortunately, the coach dictates they don't.

There’s a recent clip of Southgate on BBC sport being interviewed by a bunch of kids.

One of them asks him what’s the number 1 reason you pick someone for the England squad and he replies “mental toughness and the ability to deal with pressure’

I just wonder if Southgate thinks Madders is up to it from a mentality pov.

There’s no doubt his talent but seems you’ve got to have special mental fortitude for Southgate to consider you.

Maddison has done well this season, right up there with the number of Premier League goal involvements over the season. Three English names above him - Kane, Bowen, and Mount. That should be enough to get him into the England squad at the very least, he’s been far more productive than many other English attacking players. However, Southgate has his favourites and I’d be very surprised if he gets into the squad this summer.

Never thought I'd ever say this (and certainly not at the start of this past season)...

But right now, I am much more worried about losing Maddison this summer than Tielemans.

It would make you question why Mason Mount is his favourite!

Manwell Pablo’s player of the season.

To be fair we should make that an actual trophy and do away with supporters player of the year, give the award some meaning n that.

Why do people think he’s leaving? I can’t think any top PL club who would be willing to pay what we would be asking for him. He’s been terrific but where would he fit on those teams?

You can tell his confidence is up and he’s in form when he receives the ball, turns and drives forward. He stopped doing it when he was was (injured) out of form. He did it when he first arrived and he’s so good at it. Some player.

If Southgate doesn't pick Maddison after his form since Christmas then I wont bother with it until he's gone.

That will be in about ten years then , Southgate is very likely to go on for years.

I wouldn't put anything past Southgate - He has his favourites and seems to have an issue with Maddison.

It's a shame that Maddison wants to play for England as I wouldn't want him anywhere near that set up - Look at how he treated Vardy

Southgate has made his stance very clear on Maddison.

Unfortunately his casino incident has tarred his already iffy reputation with him.

In addition to that, we don't really play with a Maddison style player, so it makes Southgate's inevitable decision to ignore him even easier.

England absolutely play with a Maddison type player because Maddison has changed. He can play as a 10, an 8 or a roaming forward and Southgate will frantically have to look for a new excuse to use. He's knuckled down this last year off the field and he's matured significantly too.

I don't know if Southgate has been to watch many of our games this season so you're probably right that it doesn't matter what he does but I hope he's questioned on it because there's no valid reason for not picking him.

Madders is not only a fantastic asset to this football club, he's a credit to football and the Premier league. If Southgate choose to ignore him it's his and Englands loss.

Best attacking English midfielder around. Has his off days, but what he can do and has done this season would be good enough to get any player into the Wngland side, usually. Will Madders get called up?  I doubt it. Southgate doesn’t like him.

Casino incident makes no sense at all, several years later and on the knowledge others have also naive things as well. A 20 year old Foden broke Covid rules by bringing girls back to his hotel room in Iceland.

I fully expect him to be picked. Will be a complete farce if he isn't.
