Christian Fuchs is relishing his role back in the Leicester side and praised manager Brendan Rodgers.

The defender made just eight starts in the Premier League last season after losing his place to Ben Chilwell.

 

Chilwell was sold to Chelsea for £50million but now Fuchs has been called on by his manager this season and performed admirably.

The 34-year-old joined Tuesday’s talkSPORT Breakfast and discussed his revitalised role with Leicester top of the Premier League.

“A lot of good things going on, obviously. Brendan Rodgers found a good way to compensate with all the injuries we had and it’s simply down to the very good work we do overall.

“It’s about communication. As soon as he came in, he made me understand what my role is and I knew that I’m not the oldest yet but I’m not the youngest and it was the time for Ben Chilwell.   “He told me ‘you will be my back up if needed and I know I can rely on you’.

 

“I love Leicester City. I went through the highest highs and the lowest lows and have really connected with the club.

“I’m always here whenever I’m needed and whatever I’m needed for. He knows that and appreciates that.”

Fuchs was part of the famed Leicester team that won the Premier League title against all the odds in 2016 under Claudio Ranieri.

Rodgers has got the team back to the top level and are possible title challengers against.

When asked about how the two managers compare, Fuchs said: “It’s hard to compare. What both did or are doing well is the man management part. These days it’s one of the most important parts to understand your players.

“That you understand your players’ personal life and might have private issues sometimes but if you understand that and you then get on top of that and get your players to buy in then you are on the winning streak. Brendan Rodgers has done that.

 

“In the 2015/16 season everything was off the charts. There was a time when I was pumped to give even more. I was on a yellow card suspension, not that I’m a nasty player but sometimes I just need to kick some people.”

Fuchs was also asked about teammate Jamie Vardy who remains one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

Vardy has already scored eight goals in seven games this season and the defender said it was his relentless pace defences struggle to deal with.

He said: “Pace kills the defence. You cannot deal with pace for 90 minutes. You can adjust your game to a versatile player or a player who is good at dribbling but pace you cannot control 100 per cent.

“That’s what Jamie Vardy has shown for years now that he’s a threat when it comes to counter attacks. When he breaks the lines, he’s undefendable.”

 

Leicester sit top of the Premier League and have already beaten Manchester City and Arsenal, but face a tough test against an injury-hit Liverpool on Sunday.

Fuchs added: “With the system we play, I think we are frustrating those teams where they say we don’t want to participate in the game but we are controlling it from the defence.

“You can control the game with the ball and without the ball. If you force the opponent to open up then you have the players to expose them, and it’s shown twice now, it’s all about the pace that we have up front, which is very hard to defend.”

Love it. Great servant to the club in a short time. Reliable. 

That assist for Vardy 's record-breaking goal was so fitting.

Am I the only person that likes TalkSport? 

 

If you don't take it too serious and can see beyond the deliberate waffle that is set up to cause a stir, it's not a bad listen most of the time.

it is what it is, its probably the only station I listen to... its not read from a script like most shows these days

Used to. It's become one giant clickbait radio show now. I find people like Alan Brazil utterly foul and would never choose to listen to him.

 

Adrian Durham has just become so obvious it's painful, it's just all too set-up. 

 

As for the sports bar, well it's even worse than Durham in terms of obviousness. There are too many good football podcasts that actually focus on the sport and not making people angry.

Probably no worse than Radio 5sh*te with the calibre of pundit(?) they now have on, just wanting to provoke a reaction to boost their own egos.

I used to but in the last number of years fan media has taken off to the point I no longer listen to the radio. For Celtic content there are a few full time podcasts who produce really, excellent, varied stuff and then for football in general there are tons of free high quality podcasts out there also.

Podcasts are great and I like listening to them too, but they tend to have more of an in depth discussion and go into more detail which I'd sooner sit and listen to in full.

 

I just listen to TalkSport on my work breaks here and there for the 'live' updates or discussions I'm not going to be too fussed about missing parts of.

I used to enjoy it but it's mainly dreadful now. Dull ex-pros, Jim White, Durham all a waste of time.

White is annoying. I think Simon Jordan talks a lot of sense and Durham is actually more tolerable now than before.. he doesn't come across as trying too hard to be controversial, unless that's just the days I've tuned in lol

Yeah - I actually listen to the radio from time to time. Old school or what? (Tried watching it for a while but nothing much happened).

Tried listening to my own music on Spotify as well but all Jimi Hendrix talks about is Liverpool's injury crisis...

I really like Fuchs. Just like the way he plays the game. Air of elegance about it. I do wish he took our free kicks though - I'm sure he was renowned for it in Germany.

Just seems mad to me that radio is such a booming business in 2020, so much so that Murdoch has recently just set up a new station to broadcast his poison 24/7.

 

I'm not joking when I say I don't think I've listened to "the radio" in about ten years. Don't understand how when everyone's got 4G, everything's got bluetooth and there's a bottomless pit of "audio content" (music, podcasts, audiobooks) online that people actively choose to listen to Alan Brazil in 15 minute chunks inbetween adverts for double glazing and the DFS sale.

So it's the medium rather than the message? 

It's just people talking however you access it.
