I think he got very fortunate coming into the side when we were very good so didn’t notice him as much and he got carried because he was surrounded by top half Prem players.

The problem is because we’re terribly run he’s managed to stick around for way too long.

I said in another post that I genuinely believe we have a player who’s true level is probably National League (no shame in that) starting for us in the Championship.

Remember at school when the PE teacher would choose two lads to be captains and they would take turns choosing from the rest of the class who they wanted in their team? Thomas gives me the impression he was always the lad left at the very end.

Yet, somehow, he's managed to become a 'professional' footballer.

Incredible.

His defending is crap but it’s the one footedness that really annoys me. Breaks down so many attacks as well because he can’t trap a bag of wet cement or play a simple pass with his right.

The number of times today he could have kept moved going but they just ended going all the way back to our CBs or resulted in a loss of possession was so frustrating

I have no idea how he is a professional footballer and is on contract until 2029.

He is ****ing awful.

My stools are stronger than his defensive ability.

Terrible, but he can't help being terrible.

The real problem, as with most things at this club, is that his terrible and we have no ambition to replace him and have given him a four year deal on a decent wage. Can't blame him for taking it and he doesn't pick himself.

Agree. And I feel bad for digging him out.

The sad truth is, the club won't sack the manager. The manager seems unaware of how poor Thomas is. So, the fans have to point it out. We shouldn't have to. What a state of affairs.

He has his qualities. There's an occasional decent delivery, long throws with pace, and when he's told to stay tight to his man he sometimes shows a bit of aggression. And, to be fair, I didn't think he was as bad as some suggested in the first half.

But he's so, so unreliable. You knew that second half was coming. I've always thought him to be a third tier standard defender and couldn't for the life of me make sense of the contract extension, but I'm beginning to doubt whether he's even League One level. I've watched a few lower league games recently and I think there are several better FBs in the top half of L1, and even lower.

He gets outmuscled, frequently sets up counters by surrendering possession (often through blindly trying to clear his lines, smashing it against the winger's shins, and finding himself out of position as they maraud down his flank) and lacks pace, strength and anything resembling nous.

It's a shame because as a youngster he did well as a deputy, but sadly he's turned into one of the worst LBs I've ever seen at the club (which is amazing when you consider that Kristiansen is still on the books). Thomas had his FA Cup Final and Tony Spearing did a fine job when we beat Oxford in May 1991, so it's a tight call between them on which one lays claim to the golden turd.

Well kind of, I'd say the club are unaware of how good any player or manager are and that's why we find ourselves in the position we are in.

Like a stopped clock (or given how much we end up paying for some of these personnel, like a stopped Rolex watch)  they get it right occasionally, occasionally wont cut it in professional sport. And as our options dwindle with our finances, they'll only be right less and less.

As plenty are alluding to - there’s no point directing anger towards him.

It is not his fault that incompetence higher up in the club has led to him consistently being put in situations he should be nowhere near.

The part I don't understand is that he was dropped .....and recalled.

What has he done in between those 2 bits to get his place back?!

Probably because Hamza was just as bad.

It amazes me how any professional football player can come through a clubs  academy and still be completely one footed.

His obsession with constantly using his left foot is ridiculous.

Compare him to Nelson and they are worlds apart.

This wasn't the case though. Hamza was ropey to say the least. But...

We won the game (somehow). He didn't directly cost us two goals. He's quick and fit. He's strong in the tackle

And if you don't believe me, then ask Sheffield United fans who they would prefer back, Hamza or Luke.

Can we just acknowledge his majestic ability to throw a long ball with unerring accuracy. I have never not seen him find an opppos head. Such a weapon!

His throw ins and our goal kicks are like giving away a free kick.
