Potts currently playing for Durham. Accept their point on Robinson but even with that fitness risk I would like to see him given another shot. Has a fantastic record in test matches.

I really rate Potts. I agree with your point on Robinson, but I’m sure the hierarchy weren’t too impressed with his fitness levels, or something similar.
l think Carse needs a rest, he’s all effort & hits the deck hard…..he’ll do well in Oz, l reckon.

Woakes won’t go to Australia in my opinion, we need fellas much quicker, plus the Kookaburra ball won’t help him either.

Potts is a curious one as he always seems to do quite well and gets good players out. They do seem to rate him though but he seems to be seen more as a one day bowler now.

I just don't really rate Overton. He's quick but not that quick and never really looks threatening.

I think they’re hoping Overton strengthens the batting line up.

I'm only 32 lol

Believe me, you never get over the trauma of Mark Ealham being consistently picked as the best "all-rounder" option. :D

(Or Nasser choosing to bowl on an absolute road with the sun beating down in a first Ashes Test at the Gabbatoir.)

How can you lose a toss 15 times in a row lol

Cue Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Ashwin accusing England of using a double sided coin....:giggle:

1 in 32768 the odds, apparently.

I mean, not quite lottery win, but still pretty far fetched from a probability POV.

I had managed to wipe Mark Ealham from my memory bank…Now getting flashbacks to Bill Athey, whose test average was 22.97. He played over the same period as Chris Tavaré, and appears to have been selected as a marginally less glacial bat, when something a little more swashbuckling than Tavaré was called for…..Those concerned with Bazball should have seen Tavball. Paint dried quicker.

Has there ever been so many changes across both sides in-between test matches?

3 day turnaround between test 4 and 5 is especially tight.

5 test series played between 42 days is a bit ridiculous. It takes away from the quality of both teams. Especially when every pitch has been flat.

I'm sure fans have paid for tickets today hoping to see Stokes, Archer, Bumrah etc.

Mark Ealham was a steady enough cricketer for England batting average 21 bowling average 28 .He was never going to be a match winner but he wasn't terrible often get you 30 down the order and chip in with 2\50

Are England fans satisfied with Pope as VC, and potential captain once Stokes stops playing?

I think it's way more likely it will be Brook long term.

Pretty much anyone following Stokes is on a hiding to nothing really. He is a phenomenal leader, one of the best ever in English cricket.

If it's Pope I'd like to see him bat at 5 or 6. Brook is clearly being groomed for future captaincy but you don't want to take away the fluency and freedom he has at the moment.

There aren't too many other options at the moment. I hope Stokes carries on after the Ashes but can see him stepping down.

Are you a cricket groundsman if you're not wearing shorts and running manically on to the pitch as rain hits lol

I guess it’s like those at Wimbledon for the tennis .

From the Cricketer:

"The first-class counties are set to receive the first payment from The Hundred sales today (Thursday, July 31).

Each of the first-class counties will receive an "unfettered" payment of around £400,000. There are no restrictions on how this money can be used.

While two of the eight deals around new ownership of Hundred sides are yet to be signed, the ECB are confident they will be within weeks and are keen for the counties to see and feel the benefits of the sell-off.

In all, the non-host counties can expect to receive just over £24m from the sales, with the hosts receiving around £18m.

Much of this money will have restrictions imposed upon how it can be spent, with the ECB hoping it is used to clear debt, improve facilities and create revenue streams."
