Could be a good finish in the Pak-Saffer Test, SA coming back into it and have a target of 277 to chase down. Make that about even money IMO.

Surely PAK clear favs defending that, 2 down already

Just needs one big stand from the Saffers to make it interesting, currently 51/2. Should be an good final day.

England always seem to do poorly in a first Ashes test in Australia, never having any proper warm up matches. Are lessons ever learnt?

After 1 day internationals in New Zealand, they travel to Australia. One game is planned - against England Lions - before first test match. It is totally inadequate preparation for a test match at the WACA; never the best of venues for decent performances. In the last 5 series in Australia England have lost the first test. Expect the same in 2025!

Hopefully Wood & Archer stay relatively fit, although no chance both play all 5 Tests in a 7 week period. I expect Carse to play a big part, love his effort & commitment.

Hopefully, England go all out attack in the 1st Test & if it’s the Bazball approach with the bat, it’s done with brains & reading the match situation. As you point out, our record isn’t good early doors.

Personally, l don’t think Cummins is a massive loss (if it’s only 1 Test), as probable stand-in, Boland has a great record Down Under. If the Aussie Skipper is out for a few Tests, that puts so much pressure on their attack & could be pivotal. Can’t wait !

On the general topic above, I do agree that the first Test will tell us a lot about the series. It speaks volumes that the only time England have won in Oz in recent memory, they looked like losing the first Test but then put on an absolutely colossal stand in the second innings that set the tone for the rest of the series.

That being said, winning away in India, Oz, or indeed England in a five Test series is a rare thing for any team, and there's a reason it's so uncommon.

I don't think him missing a few tests would put any real huge pressure on them,  it'll be Starc, Boland and Hazlewood, then they have the likes of Fergus O'Neil to bring in if needed

I keep forgetting that Sky don't have the rights for away Ashes series :(

Is it worth subscribing to TNT for the 7/8 week Series ?

That's going to be horrendous.

I don't subscribe to either, but anyone who gets Sky or TNT for their cricket coverage should be asking serious questions about the value they're getting these days.

Is Phil Salt the most dangerous while ball batsman in the world at the moment?

There's a few that are hugely destructive when on form right now IMO, but he's certainly on that list.

Also, Adil Rashid is a wildly underrated one day bowler. Almost always seems to make good economical and/or wicket-taking contributions.

I don't think he's underrated. Comms are always talking him up, he's a regular in the England set up & has won World Cups.

He will be regarded as a white ball star player when he retires

I think he's underrated by the fanbase rather than the comms or selectors tbh, his name doesn't seem to come up often when mentioning important England one day players.

Fair point. Maybe the average fan sees the likes of Brooke, Stokes & Salt smashing it everywhere & Archer & Wood bowling at 90mph more of a wow factor. Interesting.

Obviously understand why they tried but was a wasted series really unfortunately.

…….hopefully we’re not saying the same after The Ashes !
