Well except aussies have now lost Abbott to injury and question mark over Hazelwood. But yeh, England more likely to be undercooked next Friday.

Very likely- can't see anything other than us being completely steamrolled in Perth.

It will be frustrating, because the second test being day/night potentially levels the playing field a bit at the Gabba. Going 1-0 up could give us a sniff of a series win.

Yep, not sure I can see a place for Bashir in either of the first two tests, with the pace and bounce in Perth and the pink ball swing at the Gabba.

Yeah I'd go for five seamers (inc. Stokes) at Perth. Wood and Archer both play that one, if fit.

Got a feeling Bashir might be quite useful in the evening conditions at the Gabba, combination of skid and extra bounce. Assuming the batsmen give him anything to work with.

They've been pumped after playing a long warm up programme against multiple teams and they'll get pumped this time after doing chuff all prep.

Ideally you'd play one proper game against a native team but I don't think us getting pumped can be pinned on the schedule, it'll be because of headloss and overpromoted Bazballers.

Not sure this is helpful.

A war of wards to some extent between the current camp and ex players.

Just let them prepare and judge when the cricket starts .

If you've ever read The Tour by Simon Wilde, there aren't many who genuinely enjoyed those really long tours - as much as they created a bit more excitement and got players used to conditions.

I’m Stokes biggest fan but calling ex England legends “has beens” is a bit disrespectful really.

This is also true. Very clumsily put, though it's not like he has any choice in the schedule.

Reliant on Stokes for Wickets still, even against the Lions...and Wood only bowling 8 overs

Although apparently the venue is nothing like the pounce and pace of the Optus.

Potentially good timing for Jacks to get some runs lower down the order, encouraging knocks from Ben McKinney and Thomas Rew (at 17) as they seem next in line. Not so for Jacob Bethell, Pope has saved his position at 3 just by not playing since the summer.

Yes do agree not great PR there and these ex players will now just be waiting to put the knife in more if it goes wrong .

Hearing Wood already needs a scan on a potential hamstring injury ffs

This was always going to be the problem with relying on Stokes, Wood, Atkinson and Archer as your big wicket takers.

Don't forget Carse. I reckon he plays an important part in this Series.

I hope the England players back themselves more than folks on here appear to.

The Aussies certainly will seize on any lack of confidence. There's a reason they genuinely feared players like Pietersen.

Looks like a lot of the wickets were caught on the boundary too which says a lot. Sounds like they’ve not got what they wanted from this. Aussies will be licking their lips.

I'd say they got exactly what they wanted from a 3 day match - full day in the field and then tomorrow they can all have a go with the bat.

Probably put to bed any notion that Root can be the main spinner. went for 117 runs lol

You're not wrong but Carse literally considered having his toe amputated because it causes him that much grief last winter.

Every single fast bowler that we’re taking has an extensive history of injuries. And like Steve Smith said today, going to Australia with a bunch of 90mph+ hit the deck bowlers isn’t that good of an idea.

We can win this ashes on vibes alone, Root, Brook, Duckett are some of the greatest batters of this generation, but the strategy is still crap.

Australian wickets have definitely been doing a bit more over recent years, so I don't think we need to be over reliant on the very quick lads, but be good to have the ability to have someone be hostile for a few spells every match.

Do think we could turn them over,  but a lot will come down to how the first test plays out

4-1 to England.

After the first over. And that is the proper scorecard, not the woke backward nonsense the Ozzies do.

Wonder what the odds are for Crawley to get out first ball.

Good to see Potts take some wickets today because if there is going to be an extra bowler called up, it will be him.

Not what Root and Brook would have wanted but some runs for Crawley, Duckett and Pope at least.

‘Woke backward nonsense’ is the best phrase I’ve read in years. May I unashamedly steal it?
