Ollie Pope and Dan Lawrence back in the test squad with Bethell out injured - potentially replaced by Jordon Cox.

BTW was watching some videos of the 90s test series and it seemed like the team would change every game pretty much with the odd exception.

Particularly in the bowling attacks.

Suppose now Broad and Anderson have gone it will be much the same thing ?

I remember Ramprakash & Hick being dropped & then recalled on numerous occasions. It was hardly ever a settled side.

 

It'll be interesting to see what Fleming does.

McCullum rarely made wholesale changes, although it seemed some (Crawley especially) were on easy street & were undropable.

Pope has done nothing to warrant a re-call but it suggests he will be the reserve batsman. 

 

I kind of understand Lawrence as a stop gap, middle order batsmen who can bowl a bit of spin. Again, no-one appears to rate Rehan's bowling enough.

No Rehan is embarrassing. He's the most precocious talent England have had in my lifetime so it's maddening that he's not been their per project when the likes of Bashir and Bethell have. May never make it at test level but their management of him certainly isn't going to help.

It's infuriating. Yes he might be a bit raw but England desperately need a spin bowling allrounder to balance the team, he looks to have a high ceiling, and this was the perfect summer to integrate him into the squad. What a waste.

TBF whilst it sounds like Lawrence will play seems like Pope is there as cover and as an experienced head more than anything.

 

Obviously someone at the ECB has faith Bashir that most others cannot see .

I'd like to think Fleming will be allowed do the right thing. If things continue, then it's a project the hierarchy are too stubborn to ditch.

Anyone listened to Stokes' episode on for the love of cricket? 

 

Majority of it was generic media trained responses, but for a few questions he seemed to actually give genuine answers. It did sound like it was time for him to at least step down from captaincy.  

 

Broad will no doubt be a good interviewer once his mates have all retired. Does come across an arrogant bastard at times.

It's all about getting families/kids invoved in cricket. Fours, sixes & crowd catches etc. Personally, can't stand it, but I'm far from being young ! Test cricket all day for me.

If only 10 or 20% get into the longer format, it's a massive boost.

Agree about test cricket and I'm not young either. Good point about youngsters. My grandson seems to like it

The ECB naturally want  to make money and see it as the best way to get younger fans into the longer formats but then they put test cricket on Sky (who do it well ) whereas so many older fans would have seen live cricket on the Beeb and Channel 4.

 

We weren’t good generally in the 90s but least it was available to watch for the majority .

Always found Broad a nice bloke.The most arrogant man I have ever met sports wise is Tim Sherwood by a mile.
