Been a tragic summer for young Jacob Bethell. Looks like a deer in the headlights.

 

5 single digit scores in the Hundred, top score of 36 for England in T20I and a top score of 6 in tests.

 

Had a fine 80 odd in the ODI against West Indies in Birmingham but since then it's been really dismal.

Not a great debut for Baker. Too simplistic to say that you can't judge someone on a decent spell in the hundred? 

 

South Africa look like a team who have just played a ODI series in Australia. And won for that matter, clearly a good team currently.

He hasn't bowled a siell of more than four overs in white-ball cricket for three years. He's being thrown to the wolves being chucked into this.

Classic England though isn't it.

 

Shun players that are building steady careers for the bright shiny new toy and ruin it.

The ECB care only about a format nobody else plays. Aren't interested in T20 and ODI and wing it in Tests. Not all bowlers and batsmen will be class across all formats like Archer, Rashid and Root. They need experience and preparation.

I'm afraid that's what happens when you relegate the domestic 50 over competition to nothing more than a 2nd XI tournament. Batsmen clearly have no idea how to pace an innings and bowlers no idea how to bowl a good ODI spell (which is still more about strong lines and lengths than variations).

 

Feel sorry for those who went. Tickets aren't cheap and that was an appalling spectacle.

Hopefully the T20, specifically the one at Trent Bridge on 14th Sept, is much more exciting...

Seems ridiculous that this competition had to take a 7 week break to allow for the Hundred, before coming back in September when conditions are less than ideal for short format (or any) cricket.
